Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to clarify the influences of workplace friendship, psychological safety on employees’ innovative behavior and the moderated role of transformational leadership and face.
Design/methodology/approach
The current research proposes and tests a theoretic framework to explore the mechanism of workplace friendship in influencing employees’ innovative behavior. Based on a sample of 441 respondents from various Chinese companies, this paper used SPSS 22.0 and Amos 22.0 to examine the hypotheses.
Findings
Results indicate that workplace friendship positively related to innovative behavior and psychological safety functioned as a mediator between them. Moreover, it examines the moderating roles of transformational leadership and face. Transformational leadership and desire to gain face strengthen the relationship between psychological safety and employees’ innovative behavior but fear of losing face is negatively related to the strength of this relationship.
Originality/value
The current research is meaningful for managerial practice. Then, the theoretical framework will contribute to providing a new perspective for understanding complex friendship at studies thus explore its boundary conditions, which help to lead to desirable outcomes. Besides, the findings advance nascent theory on face under oriental culture background.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of workplace bullying on innovative work behavior and neglect with defensive silence as a mediator. The study further examines if the presence of friendship networks in the workplace can weaken the negative impact of workplace bullying.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were collected through self-report questionnaires from 835 full-time Indian managerial employees working in different Indian organizations.
Findings
Results revealed that workplace bullying negatively related to innovative work behavior and positively related to neglect. Defensive silence mediated bullying–outcomes relationships and effects of workplace bullying on proposed outcomes were weaker in the presence of high workplace friendship.
Research limitations/implications
A cross-sectional design and use of self-reported questionnaire data are few limitations of this study.
Originality/value
The study extended the current research stream of workplace bullying to one of the underrepresented developing Asian countries, India. The study also contributes in terms of its sample characteristics as it covers managerial employees working across different organizations.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of workplace happiness and work engagement on employee service innovative behavior from the perspective of positive psychology. The study also examines if work engagement mediates the relationship between workplace happiness and employee service innovative behavior. Finally, it investigates how co-worker socializing and the service climate of the organization moderate the relationship between work engagement and employee service innovative behavior.
Design/methodology/approach
The study used survey data from 321 frontline employees working in the service sector in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Six major hypotheses were established and examined using the SPSS Statistics V22.0 Process. The measurement model was analyzed using Amos 22.
Findings
Workplace happiness and work engagement are found to be important factors affecting employee service innovative behavior. Workplace happiness influences employee service innovative behavior directly and indirectly through work engagement. Both service climate and co-worker socializing play a significant moderating role in the relationship between work engagement and employee service innovative behavior among frontline employees. Interestingly, service climate erodes this relationship while co-worker socializing enhances it.
Practical implications
This study provides guidelines for managers and practitioners in the service industry to promote frontline employee service innovative behavior. Specifically, the findings provide guidance for decision-makers on how to use workplace happiness to trigger the innovative service behaviors of frontline employees, taking into consideration the conditional role of service climate and co-worker socializing.
Originality/value
The literature on factors affecting the service innovative behavior of frontline employees in the service sector from the perspective of positive psychology is limited, especially in the context of the UAE. The data, framework and outcomes of this research address this gap and contribute to the current body of knowledge. Specifically, the study contributes to the broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions in the field of positive psychology by validating the applicability of the theory in a wider organizational context.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to explore the role of employee flourishing as a mechanism to explain the relationship between workplace spirituality and employees' innovative work behavior (IWB). Furthermore, this study investigates how the relationship between workplace spirituality and innovative behavior is moderated by employees' perceived workplace satisfaction.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on structural equation modeling and hierarchical regression analysis, we conducted a cross-sectional survey of 236 millennial workers in China's service and manufacturing industries.
Findings
The research findings confirmed that workplace spirituality positively predicted the innovative behavior of employees; furthermore, employee flourishing and workplace satisfaction mediated and moderated the relationship between workplace spirituality and employee innovation, respectively.
Practical implications
This study's findings suggest that workplace spirituality unlocks employees' innovative behavior through a heightened sense of flourishing and enhanced sense of workplace satisfaction. Organizations are advised to foster a climate conducive of workplace spirituality by developing mutually aligned values. Moreover, organizations are advised to train leaders on workplace spirituality dimensions and foster workplace practices that facilitate self-reflection, job crafting and team building, as a means of broadening employees' emotional states and workplace satisfaction.
Originality/value
Few studies have examined the mechanisms that shape employees' innovative behavior through workplace spirituality. This study fills several research gaps by extending the theoretical implications of workplace spirituality and employee flourishing, as demonstrated by the multi-faceted role these variables play in motivating employees' innovative behavior among Chinese millennials. Additionally, this study demonstrates that higher levels of workplace satisfaction contribute to higher levels of innovative behavior.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of the paper is to examine the relationship between workplace spirituality and employees’ innovative work behaviour and also to check the mediating role of psychological empowerment on this relationship from the lens of self-determination theory (SDT).
Design/methodology/approach
An internet-based survey was conducted among knowledge workers, i.e. 340 employees (software engineers and product developers) working in different US-based multi-national companies operating in India. The relationships are tested by using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) and, for mediation, Preacher and Hayes (2008) procedure has been used.
Findings
The PLS-SEM and Preacher and Hayes (2008) mediation results revealed that there is a significant positive relationship between workplace spirituality and employees’ innovative work behaviour. There is also a substantial effect of workplace spirituality on psychological empowerment and psychological empowerment on employees’ innovative work behaviour. Psychological empowerment is found to be mediating fully between workplace spirituality and employees’ innovative work behaviour.
Practical implications
In the context of organizations, it will be really beneficial to enhance employees’ innovative work behaviour through inculcating workplace spirituality. Promoting workplace spirituality is one of the prerequisites in organizations towards creating sustainability and establishing an empowered organization in this competitive business environment.
Originality/value
There is a dearth of studies in linking the relationship between workplace spirituality and employees’ innovative work behaviour with the mediating role of psychological empowerment from the lens of SDT.

Abstract
Purpose
The paper aims to investigate the determinants of workplace innovation behavior of women employees in Pakistan. With a growing share of women's participation in the labor force in developing economies, it is crucial to understand their behavior. The authors looked into various practices that drive women's innovative behavior using social exchange theory (SET) as a theoretical framework.
Design/methodology/approach
This study is quantitative-based on the positivistic paradigm. Following the survey method technique, responses are collected from 317 female employees in the service industry. The authors used structural equation modeling for the data analysis.
Findings
The results indicate a significant impact of leader-member exchange (LMX) on employee empowerment; schedule flexibility was also a possible predictor of workplace innovation behavior through mediating roles of employee empowerment and response to change. The study findings are consistent with the prior literature and according to the developed hypothesis. Further, women's response to change partially mediates women employees' empowerment and workplace innovation behaviors. In addition, LMX significantly affects women's response to change through women employees' empowerment, leading to workplace innovation behavior.
Practical implications
The implication is that supervisors should be adaptable in working relationships with their women employees to bring positive workplace innovative behaviors. They create such exchanges with employees to make them feel that the organizations value them. The paper identifies the need to develop supportive supervisor-employee exchange relationships to encourage positive, innovative behavior in female employees.
Originality/value
This paper examines the workplace innovation behavior of women employees in Pakistani patriarchal society and a male-dominating workplace environment.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper was to explore the voicer's own psychological or behavioral reactions to voice. A framework was proposed to predict how and when employee voice is related to innovative behavior in the workplace based on conservation of resources theory.
Design/methodology/approach
Data was collected from a three-wave survey including 232 employees and their supervisors. Hierarchical multiple regression and PROCESS, a SPSS macro, were used to test the hypotheses.
Findings
Employee voice was positively associated with innovative behavior. Perceived organizational status mediated the link between voice and innovative behavior. Meanwhile, performance-goal orientation strengthened the positive voice–perceived organizational status and voice–innovative behavior associations.
Originality/value
This paper extended the authors’ understanding of the outcomes of voice by elucidating that voice could motivate the psychological or behavioral reactions of not only team members but also the voicer himself/herself. In addition, it highlighted the value of performance-goal orientation in strengthening the potentially positive relationship between voice and perceived organizational status. In doing so, the authors identified the unexplored individual-level psychological and behavioral reactions of the voicer himself/herself after speaking up. The present study also provided practical implications by shedding light on measures to promote innovative behavior in the workplace.

Abstract
Purpose
Synthesizing theories of innovative work behavior, workplace spirituality and person-organization (P-O) fit, this paper aims to build and test a theoretical model linking workplace spirituality, perceived organizational support (POS) and innovative work behavior via P-O fit. This study examined the mediating effect of P-O fit on the relationship of workplace spirituality and POS with innovative work behavior (IWB).
Design/methodology/approach
A sample of 434 employees and 59 supervisors from five leading hotels of China was used for this study.
Findings
This study found that workplace spirituality and POS both positively affected P-O fit. Workplace spirituality, P-O fit and POS positively influenced innovative work behavior. P-O fit acted as a partial mediator between workplace spirituality and IWB and between POS and IWB.
Originality/value
This study has tested the effect of workplace spirituality as an antecedent of innovative work behavior for the first time.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to examine the influence of perceived overqualification on innovative behaviour in the workplace. By integrating self-efficacy and human capital theories, this study proposes that perceived overqualification improves innovative behaviour directly and indirectly by boosting employee creative self-confidence. It further investigates the boundary conditions imposed by perceived psychological safety in this process.
Design/methodology/approach
The research utilises a quantitative research methodology through a two-wave survey of 335 employees and their 135 leaders. Moderated and mediated regression analyses were used to analyse the research data.
Findings
The results revealed that perceived overqualification promotes innovative behaviour at work directly and indirectly through its positive influence on creative self-confidence. The mediating effect of creative self-confidence in the relationship between perceived overqualification and innovative behaviour is moderated by perceived psychological safety at work, such that the relationship is stronger in a higher perceived psychological safety condition compared to when it is low.
Research limitations/implications
This study has theoretical and practical implications for personnel management. From a theoretical perspective, it integrates human capital and self-efficacy theories to explain a mechanism through which perceived overqualification will lead to innovative behaviour in the workplace. From a managerial perspective, it mitigates the stigma associated with an overqualified workforce by suggesting that perceived overqualification can be a source of innovation at work.
Originality/value
This is the first study that examines the creative self-confidence-based mechanism in the relationship between perceived overqualification and innovative behaviour at work. It also explores the moderating role of psychological safety in this relationship.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to synthesize and critically explore the available knowledge about the linkages between compulsory citizenship behavior, knowledge hiding and employee innovative performance through a systematic literature review. It proposes a conceptual framework, highlighting the core relationships between these constructs.
Design/methodology/approach
Using two databases (Dimensions and Scopus), the authors critically examine 93 peer-reviewed publications from 2006 to 2023 to identify the arguments supporting the associations between the studied constructs.
Findings
Through an integrative conceptual model, this study provides insights into the devastating impact of compulsory citizenship behavior on employee innovation performance, further suggesting how knowledge hiding may play a mediating role.
Research limitations/implications
The study's main limitation lies in its conceptual nature. Future research should empirically validate the model to gain richer perspectives into the linkages.
Originality/value
The existing body of literature lacks a comprehensive understanding of the nexus between compulsory citizenship behavior, knowledge hiding and employee innovative performance. This study is a pioneer since it explores the emerging concepts of compulsory citizenship behavior and knowledge hiding and accentuates their presence in the context of innovative performance at the individual level through coercive persuasion theory and cognitive dissonance theory.
