Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to enrich the 3D urban models with data contributed by citizens to support data-driven decision-making in urban infrastructure projects. We introduced a new application domain extension to CityGML (social – input ADE) to enable citizens to store, classify and exchange comments generated by citizens regarding infrastructure elements. The main goal of social – input ADE is to add citizens’ feedback as semantic objects to the CityGML model.

Design/methodology/approach

Firstly, we identified the key functionalities of the suggested ADE and how to integrate them with existing 3D urban models. Next, we developed a high-level conceptual design outlining the main components and interactions within the social-input ADE. Then we proposed a package diagram for the social – input ADE to illustrate the organization of model elements and their dependencies. We also provide a detailed discussion of the functionality of different modules in the social-input ADE.

Findings

As a result of this research, it has seen that informative streams of information are generated via mining the stored data. The proposed ADE links the information of the built environment to the knowledge of end-users and enables an endless number of socially driven innovative solutions.

Originality/value

This work aims to provide a digital platform for aggregating, organizing and filtering the distributed end-users’ inputs and integrating them within the city’s digital twins to enhance city models. To create a data standard for integrating attributes of city physical elements and end-users’ social information and inputs in the same digital ecosystem, the open data model CityGML has been used.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this research study is to improve sentiment analysis (SA) at the aspect level, which is accomplished through two independent goals of aspect term and opinion extraction and subsequent sentiment classification.

Design/methodology/approach

The proposed architecture uses neighborhood and dependency tree-based relations for target opinion extraction, a domain–ontology-based knowledge management system for aspect term extraction, and deep learning techniques for classification.

Findings

The authors use different deep learning architectures to test the proposed approach of both review and aspect levels. It is reported that Vanilla recurrent neural network has an accuracy of 83.22%, long short-term memory (LSTM) is 89.87% accurate, Bi-LSTM is 91.57% accurate, gated recurrent unit is 65.57% accurate and convolutional neural network is 82.33% accurate. For the aspect level analysis, ρaspect comes out to be 0.712 and Δ2aspect is 0.384, indicating a marked improvement over previously reported results.

Originality/value

This study suggests a novel method for aspect-based SA that makes use of deep learning and domain ontologies. The use of domain ontologies allows for enhanced aspect identification, and the use of deep learning algorithms enhances the accuracy of the SA task.

Abstract

Purpose

The term knowledge refers to the part of the world investigated by a specific discipline and that includes a specific taxonomy, vocabulary, concepts, theories, research methods and standards of justification. Our approach uses domain knowledge to improve the quality of business process models (BPMs) by exploiting the domain knowledge provided by large language models (LLMs). Among these models, ChatGPT stands out as a notable example of an LLM capable of providing in-depth domain knowledge. The lack of coverage presents a limitation in each approach, as it hinders the ability to fully capture and represent the domain’s knowledge. To solve such limitations, we aim to exploit GPT-3.5 knowledge. Our approach does not ask GPT-3.5 to create a visual representation; instead, it needs to suggest missing concepts, thus helping the modeler improve his/her model. The GPT-3.5 may need to refine its suggestions based on feedback from the modeler.

Design/methodology/approach

We initiate our semantic quality enhancement process of a BPM by first extracting crucial elements including pools, lanes, activities and artifacts, along with their corresponding relationships such as lanes being associated with pools, activities belonging to each lane and artifacts associated with each activity. These data are systematically gathered and structured into ArrayLists, a form of organized collection that allows for efficient data manipulation and retrieval. Once we have this structured data, our methodology involves creating a series of prompts based on each data element. We adopt three approaches to prompting: zero-shot, few-shot and chain of thoughts (CoT) prompts. Each type of prompting is specifically designed to interact with the OpenAI language model in a unique way, aiming to elicit a diverse array of suggestions. As we apply these prompting techniques, the OpenAI model processes each prompt and returns a list of suggestions tailored to that specific element of the BPM. Our approach operates independently of any specific notation and offers semi-automation, allowing modelers to select from a range of suggested options.

Findings

This study demonstrates the significant potential of prompt engineering techniques in enhancing the semantic quality of BPMs when integrated with LLMs like ChatGPT. Our analysis of model activity richness and model artifact richness across different prompt techniques and input configurations reveals that carefully tailored prompts can lead to more complete BPMs. This research is a step forward for further exploration into the optimization of LLMs in BPM development.

Research limitations/implications

The limitation is the domain ontology that we are relying on to evaluate the semantic completeness of the new BPM. In our future work, the modeler will have the option to ask for synonyms, hyponyms, hypernyms or keywords. This feature will facilitate the replacement of existing concepts to improve not only the completeness of the BPM but also the clarity and specificity of concepts in BPMs.

Practical implications

To demonstrate our methodology, we take the “Hospitalization” process as an illustrative example. In the scope of our research, we have presented a select set of instructions pertinent to the “chain of thought” and “few-shot prompting.” Due to constraints in presentation and the extensive nature of the instructions, we have not included every detail within the body of this paper. However, they can be found in the previous GitHub link. Two appendices are given at the end. Appendix 1 describes the different prompt instructions. Appendix 2 presents the application of the instructions in our example.

Originality/value

In our research, we rely on the domain application knowledge provided by ChatGPT-3 to enhance the semantic quality of BPMs. Typically, the semantic quality of BPMs may suffer due to the modeler's lack of domain knowledge. To address this issue, our approach employs three prompt engineering methods designed to extract accurate domain knowledge. By utilizing these methods, we can identify and propose missing concepts, such as activities and artifacts. This not only ensures a more comprehensive representation of the business process but also contributes to the overall improvement of the model's semantic quality, leading to more effective and accurate business process management.

Purpose

The purpose of this article is to contribute to the digital development and utilization of China’s intangible cultural heritage resources, research on the theft of intangible cultural heritage resources and knowledge integration based on linked data is proposed to promote the standardized description of intangible cultural heritage knowledge and realize the digital dissemination and development of intangible cultural heritage.

Design/methodology/approach

In this study, firstly, the knowledge organization theory and semantic Web technology are used to describe the intangible cultural heritage digital resource objects in metadata specifications. Secondly, the ontology theory and technical methods are used to build a conceptual model of the intangible cultural resources field and determine the concept sets and hierarchical relationships in this field. Finally, the semantic Web technology is used to establish semantic associations between intangible cultural heritage resource knowledge.

Findings

The study findings indicate that the knowledge organization of intangible cultural heritage resources constructed in this study provides a solution for the digital development of intangible cultural heritage in China. It also provides semantic retrieval with better knowledge granularity and helps to visualize the knowledge content of intangible cultural heritage.

Originality/value

This study summarizes and provides significant theoretical and practical value for the digital development of intangible cultural heritage and the resource description and knowledge fusion of intangible cultural heritage can help to discover the semantic relationship of intangible cultural heritage in multiple dimensions and levels.

Abstract

Purpose

Stock prices are subject to the influence of news and social media, and a discernible co-movement pattern exists among multiple stocks. Using a knowledge graph to represent news semantics and establish connections between stocks is deemed essential and viable.

Design/methodology/approach

This study presents a knowledge-driven framework for predicting stock prices. The framework integrates relevant stocks with the semantic and emotional characteristics of textual data. The authors construct a stock knowledge graph (SKG) to extract pertinent stock information and use a knowledge graph representation model to capture both the relevant stock features and the semantic features of news articles. Additionally, the authors consider the emotional characteristics of news and investor comments, drawing insights from behavioral finance theory. The authors examined the effectiveness of these features using the combined deep learning model CNN+LSTM+Attention.

Findings

Experimental results demonstrate that the knowledge-driven combined feature model exhibits significantly improved predictive accuracy compared to single-feature models.

Originality/value

The study highlights the value of the SKG in uncovering potential correlations among stocks. Moreover, the knowledge-driven multi-feature fusion stock forecasting model enhances the prediction of stock trends for well-known enterprises, providing valuable guidance for investor decision-making.

Abstract

Purpose

Exploring diverse knowledge organization systems and metadata schemes in linked data, aiming to promote vocabulary usability and high-quality linked data creation within the LIS field.

Design/methodology/approach

We used content analysis to select 77 articles from 13 library and information science journals around our research theme. We identified four dimensions: vocabularies participation, reuse, functions, and naming variations in linked data.

Findings

The vocabulary comprises seven main categories and their corresponding 126 vocabularies, which participate in linked data in single, two, and multiple dimensions. These vocabularies are used in the eight LIS subfields. Reusing vocabularies has become integral to linked data publishing, with six categories and their corresponding 66 vocabularies being reused. Ontologies are the most engaged and widely reused category of vocabulary in linked data practice. The mutual support among the three major categories and seven subfunctions of vocabulary promotes the sustainable development of linked data. Under a combination of factors, the phenomenon of terminology name changes and cross-usage between “vocabulary” and “ontology.”

Research limitations/implications

This study has limitations. Although 77 articles on the topic of vocabularies applied in linked data were analyzed and presented with quantitative statistics and visualizations, the exploration of the topic tends to be a practical activity, with limited presence in scholarly articles. Moreover, this study’s analysis of the practical applications of linked data is relatively limited, and the sample literature focused on articles published in English, which may have affected the diversity and inclusiveness of the research sample.

Practical implications

Practically, this study does not confine the application of content analysis solely to the traditional exploration of knowledge organization topics, development trends, or course content. Instead, it integrates the dual perspectives of linked data and vocabularies, employing content analysis to analyze and objectively reveal the application issues of vocabularies in linked data. The conclusions can provide specific guidelines for future applications of vocabularies in the LIS subfields and contribute to promoting interoperability of vocabularies.

Social implications

This research explores the relationship between linked data and vocabularies, highlighting the diverse manifestations and challenges of vocabularies in linked data. It provides theoretical references for the construction and further development of vocabularies considering technologies such as linked data, drawing attention to the potential and existing issues associated with linked open data vocabularies.

Originality/value

This study extends the application of content analysis to exploring vocabularies, especially Knowledge Organization Systems and metadata schemes in the LIS field linked data, highlighting the mutually beneficial interactions between linked data and vocabularies. It provides guidance for future vocabularies applications in the LIS field and offers insights into vocabularies construction and the healthy development of linked data ecosystems in the era of information technology.

Abstract

Purpose

Building information modelling (BIM) has transformed the traditional practices of the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry. BIM creates a collaborative digital representation of built environment data. Competitive advantage can be achieved with collaborative project delivery and rich information modelling. Despite the abundant benefits, BIM’s adoption in the AEC is susceptible to confrontation. A substantial impediment to BIM adoption often cited is data interoperability. Other facets of interoperability got limited attention. Other academic areas, including information systems, discuss the interoperability construct ahead of data interoperability. These interoperability factors have yet to be surveyed in the AEC industry. This study aims to investigate the effect of interoperability factors on BIM adoption and develop a comprehensive BIM adoption model.

Design/methodology/approach

The theoretical foundations of the proposed model are based on the European interoperability framework (EIF) and technology, organization, environment framework (TOE). Quantitative data collection from construction firms is gathered. The model has been thoroughly examined and validated using partial least squares structural equation modelling in SmartPLS software.

Findings

The study’s findings indicate that relative advantage, top management support, government support, organizational readiness and regulation support are determinants of BIM adoption. Financial constraints, complexity, lack of technical interoperability, semantic interoperability, organizational interoperability and uncertainty are barriers to BIM adoption. However, compatibility, competitive pressure and legal interoperability do not affect BIM adoption.

Practical implications

Finally, this study provides recommendations containing the essential technological, organizational, environmental and interoperability factors that AEC stakeholders can address to enhance BIM adoption.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this paper is one of the first studies to combine TOE and EIF in a single research model. This research provides empirical evidence for using the proposed model as a guide to promoting BIM adoption. As a result, the highlighted determinants can assist organizations in developing and executing successful policies that support BIM adoption in the AEC industry.

Abstract

Purpose

The compliance checking of Building Information Modeling (BIM) models is crucial throughout the lifecycle of construction. The increasing amount and complexity of information carried by BIM models have made compliance checking more challenging, and manual methods are prone to errors. Therefore, this study aims to propose an integrative conceptual framework for automated compliance checking of BIM models, allowing for the identification of errors within BIM models.

Design/methodology/approach

This study first analyzed the typical building standards in the field of architecture and fire protection, and then the ontology of these elements is developed. Based on this, a building standard corpus is built, and deep learning models are trained to automatically label the building standard texts. The Neo4j is utilized for knowledge graph construction and storage, and a data extraction method based on the Dynamo is designed to obtain checking data files. After that, a matching algorithm is devised to express the logical rules of knowledge graph triples, resulting in automated compliance checking for BIM models.

Findings

Case validation results showed that this theoretical framework can achieve the automatic construction of domain knowledge graphs and automatic checking of BIM model compliance. Compared with traditional methods, this method has a higher degree of automation and portability.

Originality/value

This study introduces knowledge graphs and natural language processing technology into the field of BIM model checking and completes the automated process of constructing domain knowledge graphs and checking BIM model data. The validation of its functionality and usability through two case studies on a self-developed BIM checking platform.

Purpose

Today’s in-demand skills may not be needed tomorrow. As companies are adopting a new group of technologies, they are in huge need of information technology (IT) professionals who can fill various IT positions with a mixture of technical and problem-solving skills. This study aims to adopt a sematic analysis approach to explore how the US Information Systems (IS) programs meet the challenges of emerging IT topics.

Design/methodology/approach

This study considers the application of a hybrid semantic analysis approach to the analysis of IS higher education programs in the USA. It proposes a semantic analysis framework and a semantic analysis algorithm to analyze and evaluate the context of the IS programs. To be more specific, the study uses digital transformation as a case study to examine the readiness of the IS programs in the USA to meet the challenges of digital transformation. First, this study developed a knowledge pool of 15 principles and 98 keywords from an extensive literature review on digital transformation. Second, this study collects 4,093 IS courses from 315 IS programs in the USA and 493,216 scientific publication records from the Web of Science Core Collection.

Findings

Using the knowledge pool and two collected data sets, the semantic analysis algorithm was implemented to compute a semantic similarity score (DxScore) between an IS course’s context and digital transformation. To present the credibility of the research results of this paper, the state ranking using the similarity scores and the state employment ranking were compared. The research results can be used by IS educators in the future in the process of updating the IS curricula. Regarding IT professionals in the industry, the results can provide insights into the training of their current/future employees.

Originality/value

This study explores the status of the IS programs in the USA by proposing a semantic analysis framework, using digital transformation as a case study to illustrate the application of the proposed semantic analysis framework, and developing a knowledge pool, a corpus and a course information collection.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to adjust Thesis-type properties on Schema.org using metadata models and standards (MS) (Bibframe, electronic thesis and dissertations [ETD]-MS, Common European Research Information Format [CERIF] and Dublin Core [DC]) to enrich the Thesis-type properties for better description and processing on the Web.

Design/methodology/approach

This study is applied, descriptive analysis in nature and is based on content analysis in terms of method. The research population consisted of elements and attributes of the metadata model and standards (Bibframe, ETD-MS, CERIF and DC) and Thesis-type properties in the Schema.org. The data collection tool was a researcher-made checklist, and the data collection method was structured observation.

Findings

The results show that the 65 Thesis-type properties and the two levels of Thing and CreativeWork as its parents on Schema.org that corresponds to the elements and attributes of related models and standards. In addition, 12 properties are special to the Thesis type for better comprehensive description and processing, and 27 properties are added to the CreativeWork type.

Practical implications

Enrichment and expansion of Thesis-type properties on Schema.org is one of the practical applications of the present study, which have enabled more comprehensive description and processing and increased access points and visibility for ETDs in the environment Web and digital libraries.

Originality/value

This study has offered some new Thesis type properties and CreativeWork levels on Schema.org. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first time this issue is investigated.
