Abstract
Purpose
By analyzing variables from the fields of business and neuropsychology, this document examines alternative combinations of behavioral economics and neuropsychological characteristics that would explain a successful entrepreneurial profile.
Design/methodology/approach
The research is based on information gathered through a survey of 1,080 entrepreneurs. The findings offer interesting perspectives for academics, professionals and government institutions, which illustrate various neuropsychological characteristics that a person must have to be a successful entrepreneur. The method consists of a novel perspective that integrates qualitative comparative analysis (QCAs), a method based on Boolean algebra that offers a study from a configurational perspective.
Findings
From the mixture of configurations, the paper explores following possible traits of an entrepreneurial mindset: cognitive flexibility, risk-taking, decision-making and teamwork.
Originality/value
This paper contributes to the literature on emerging attempts and approaches to understand the entrepreneurial mindset and the possible skillset that underpins successful entrepreneurship.

Abstract
A one‐dimensional finite difference scheme adapted to high order moment equation models arising in the approximate description of semiconducting submicron structures is presented. The new scheme is a natural extension of the Scharfetter‐Gummel scheme used in drift‐diffusion models. Through local analytic solutions an accurate representation of exponentially varying solution components is realised.

Abstract
IN Parts I, II and III of this series we have discussed the physical nature of divergence, control reversal and various forms of flutter, and have seen how these phenomena can be predicted by theory. The flutter problem is so complicated, however, that the aircraft designer needs the assistance of certain guiding principles; otherwise he may find when the aircraft is ready to fly that the flutter calculations which are just completed show that drastic modifications to the aircraft are necessary. These principles form the basis of this concluding part of the series and have two main objects: first to avoid large changes in design on flutter grounds and secondly to obtain a high efficiency from the flutter calculations.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper empirically investigates the effect of economic policy uncertainty (EPU) on the UK money demand stability during the inter-war period (1920–1938). Both a narrow definition (M0) and a broad definition (M3) of money are investigated.
Design/methodology/approach
The empirical investigation is conducted by employing the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach to cointegration.
Findings
Results presented indicate a stable demand for both definitions of money only when EPU is included as one of the determinants of demand function. The EPU imposes a negative effect on the demand for both definitions of money. The causality test results further indicate long- and short-term causality from the determinants (including EPU) to both forms of money demand.
Practical implications
Significant presence of the economic uncertainty weakens the effects of the monetary policy on the economy.
Originality/value
This is a historical economics paper. Given the turmoil and uncertainty associated with the inter-war period, an empirical investigation of UK money demand is an interesting exercise. This is the first such paper.

Abstract
This paper uses data from the 1979 and 1997 National Longitudinal Surveys of Youth to estimate the changing returns to cognitive and non-cognitive skills with respect to college completion, and quantifies the extent to which gender differences in these skills are driving the college gender gap. The use of two distinct college graduation cohorts allows a dynamic analysis of the widening female advantage in college graduation. I decompose the increase in the college gender gap into three pertinent categories of measurable attributes: family background, cognitive skills, and non-cognitive skills (captured by school suspensions, behavioral problems, and legal infractions). A second decomposition is applied to the change in the gap between the two periods. The results show that roughly half of the observed college graduation gender gap in the NLSY97 is due to female advantages in observable characteristics, and roughly half is “unexplained”: due to gender differences in the coefficients. With respect to the change in the gap, approximately 29% of the difference in differences is the “explained” component, attributed to changes in the relative characteristics of men and women. In particular, declining non-cognitive skills in men are associated with about 14% of the increase in the gender gap.

Abstract
Purpose
This study empirically aims to analyze the transmission of monetary policy in consideration of asymmetry based on the Bank of the Lao PDR (BOL)'s monetary policy tools and real and financial variables in the domestic market.
Design/methodology/approach
This study adopts two approaches, conventional vector autoregression (VAR) and asymmetric VAR, to investigate the impact of monetary policy on macroeconomic variables including inflation and real GDP growth in the Lao PDR.
Findings
Under a highly dollarized monetary regime, the policy rate change plays a weaker role compared with M0, which exerts significantly positive effects on real GDP growth and inflation. The results of the asymmetric VAR model further substantiate that the real economy responds to a positive M0 shock (easing monetary policy) rather than a negative shock (tightening monetary policy).
Practical implications
Overall estimation results suggest that the effectiveness of monetary policy is limited in Laos, which would take priority over efforts to strengthen the development of the short-term financial market and de-dollarization.
Originality/value
This study can fill the gap in the literature in which the discussions on the transmission mechanism of monetary policy in the BOL's monetary policy are still little known.

Abstract
Part I—The Jet Propulsion Engine IN a study of high‐speed flight presented to the Accademia dei Lincei in 1926 (G. A. Crocco, The Possibilities of Super‐Aviation, February 7th, 1926) an outline was given of the problem of ‘super‐aviation’, i.e. flight in excess of the speed of sound and made economical by operating in the stratosphere. Then in 1931 (G. A. Crocco, Aerodynamic Bodies of Negative Resistance, Rendiconti Lincei, June 12th, 1931), a jet‐reaction engine in which the external air was entrapped was described as representing a possible solution of this problem; the principle was indicated diagrammatically as long ago as 1931 by Lorin.
