Abstract
This paper has been developed from a workshop held at the 2002 LIANZA (Library and Information Association New Zealand Aotearoa) National Conference “Winds of change: libraries in the twenty‐first century”. The authors attended the 7th International Interlending and Document Supply Conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia, 1‐5 October 2001, where digital topics dominated and several strong themes emerged: the systems needed to find and request document supply (DS); obstacles to finding the items patrons want; the narrowing or widening of access; legal barriers to inter‐library loans (ILL)/DS access; alternatives to ILL/DS for patrons; then finally, the electronic delivery of documents to libraries and to patrons.

Purpose
The purpose of the paper is to describe the development of the Portuguese document supply system with particular emphasis on the role of the National Library but also in its academic and public library sectors.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper is descriptive in nature.
Findings
Portugal emerged from a long period of monarchy and dictatorship, profited from being a EU member, and libraries are now exploiting the advantages of information technology particularly for the benefit of remote users.
Originality/value
This is probably the first overview of historical and recent developments in document supply in Portugal.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the literature on digital games designed or adapted for information literacy instruction, as well as practical design recommendations.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper presents an analysis of a compiled set of peer-reviewed articles on games in the provision of information literacy instruction published between 2013 and 2018, categorized by game mechanics utilized.
Findings
Application of the inclusion criteria led to 12 papers considered relevant. Synthesis of the papers suggests that although studies indicate positive outcomes for information literacy games, such games continue to rely on transcription of declarative tasks to digital environments.
Originality/value
While previous literature reviews provide summaries on information literacy digital games, this paper not only presents an up-to-date review but also provides step-by-step instructions and worked examples for aligning information literacy learning mechanics with game mechanics.

Abstract
Whereas most societal commentators continue to review the historical patterns of men’s leadership in search of models for 21st-century success, few have begun to recognize, let alone appreciate, the equivalent patterns of women’s leadership and the future contributions that women could potentially make as leaders. What could and are women bringing to society as global leaders? Why at this moment in history is there such a marked increase in the number of women leaders? Are we entering an era in which both male and female leaders will shape history, both symbolically and in reality? And if so, will we discover that women, on average, lead in different ways than men, or will we learn that role (global leader) explains more than gender? This chapter reveals the accelerating trends of women joining men in senior leadership positions, establishes the relationship of women leaders to our overall understanding of global leadership, and sets forth an agenda to accomplish much needed research and understanding.

Abstract
Purpose
The HRM literature provides various typologies of the HR managers’ roles in organizations. The purpose of this paper is to examine how the roles and required competencies of HR managers in Slovenian multinational companies change when these companies enter the international arena.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors explored the total population of 25 Slovenian multinational companies (MNCs) operating in Serbia. In these companies the authors conducted interviews with 16 expatriates working in branches in Serbia, sent questionnaires to the CEOs, and conducted a survey of 50 HR managers and interviews with 15 of them. The authors used a triangulation approach and analyzed the results by multivariate methods and content analysis.
Findings
The authors found that the complexity of HR managers’ roles, and expectations of their competencies, increases with an increasing level of internationalization of companies. Orientation to people and conflict resolution are seen as elementary competencies needed in all stages of internationalization. The key competence is seen to be strategic thinking that, according to CEOs and expatriates, goes hand in hand with cultural sensitivity, openness to change and a comprehensive understanding of the international environment and business processes.
Practical implications
These results can potentially be used for assessing the HRM roles and competencies in different stages of company internationalization, especially MNCs operating in the ex-communist states of Europe, and will help HR managers to support expatriates, CEOs and other employees working in branches abroad more efficiently.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the review and evaluation of the quite limited research on HR managers’ roles and competencies in MNCs. It focuses on MNCs and outward internationalization in the Central and Eastern European region. It contributes to studies of the HR managers’ roles and competencies and is the first study to establish a set of roles and competencies for HR managers in Slovenian MNCs.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to explore how practitioners and policymakers of inclusion perceive inclusion at workplace and define the role and behavior of leaders in fostering inclusion and struggles associated with acceptance and implementation of inclusion initiatives at the workplace.
Design/methodology/approach
In total, 20 in-depth semi-structured interviews were taken from diversity and inclusion leads, inclusion consultants and human resources experts. Each interview was transcribed and a technique of inductive content analysis was used. Broad themes and several new items emerged that define organizational inclusion and inclusive leadership.
Findings
The paper provides insights on how inclusion is perceived differently by each individual and even though organizations have policies in place, getting them into practice is yet to be accomplished. The paper finds key leadership behaviors to be practiced to foster and sustain inclusion in the workplace. Struggles and outcomes of inclusion are also discussed in the paper.
Practical implications
The study will facilitate creating awareness in practitioners and academicians who think inclusion is mostly concerned with disabled learners, which is misleading. The paper will help the concerned stakeholders to formulate inclusion policies to encourage healthy employee relations and better the organizational outcomes.
Originality/value
India is known to have a rich diverse culture. The paper explores with empirical evidence how this diversity can be leveraged through inclusion to benefit the organization. It adds to the existing body of knowledge on how inclusion and role of a leader are experienced by the employer and employee in Indian companies which is a niche area of research.
