Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effect of CRM performance and technological innovation on performance of media entrepreneurs considering firm size.

Design/methodology/approach

This is an analytical study used to empirically test the hypotheses proposed for SEM techniques using PLS and R packages. It used two steps in this way: the assessment of the outer model and the assessment of the inner model. Moreover, a bootstrapping method was employed to test indirect effects. Data were collected by distributing 127 questionnaires between the managers and deputies of active firms across Rasht, Iran.

Findings

The effect of CRM performance on SMEs performance development is partially mediated by media entrepreneurship. Moreover, the effect of technological innovation on SMEs performance development is mediated by media entrepreneurship. Furthermore, permutation test results indicated that there is no significant difference between small- and medium-sized firms.

Research limitations/implications

This study used cross-sectional sampling method that can seriously limit result generalization. Therefore, conducting longitudinal studies is strongly recommended.

Practical implications

The results of IPMA matrix indicated the serious importance of technological innovation, as a variable with the highest importance for SMEs performance development. Nevertheless, this variable has received the lowest importance in the studied population. Therefore, SMEs’ managers should pay sufficient attention to the concepts of “product innovations” and “process innovations.”

Originality/value

This study is of high importance in that it has adopted new and effective indices for statistical analysis. IPMA matrix, permutation test, CTA and FIMIX are examples. In addition, plspm and Matrixpls packages in R were used for the first time in this study.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to propose an integrating model for creating virtual libraries in Iranian universities of medical sciences.

Design/methodology/approach

This study was conducted with an analytic survey method. The statistical population comprised 66 Iranian universities of medical sciences, of which 59 libraries participated in the study. A researcher-made checklist was used for data collection. To ensure the accuracy of data, interviews and, in some cases, observations were also performed. Statistical estimates, including frequency, percentage, cumulative frequency and diagrams, were used for data analysis, and the system analysis method was used for modeling.

Findings

Results demonstrated that the library software programs of the studied universities of medical sciences do not have desirable interoperability capabilities. Only Azarsa program can exchange information with other systems. In terms of metadata and its standards, the studied libraries use programs with various standards, with MARC and Dublin Core standards being the most frequently used ones in the studied sample.

Originality/value

The model proposed here for integration is a hybrid model which can translate metadata standards and use the Z39.50 and OEI protocol to transfer data.

Abstract

Purpose

Demolition is a high-risk operation in construction projects that may lead to serious accidents. Risk assessment is a fundamental step in managing demolition risk and preventing casualties and financial losses. The present study aims to provide a framework to identify, analyse and evaluate the risks in building demolition operations.

Design/methodology/approach

According to previous studies and the use of expert knowledge, 10 possible risks of the building demolition operation were identified. Subsequently, these risks were assessed using a combination of fuzzy logic with fault tree analysis (FTA), criteria importance through inter-criteria correlation (CRITIC) and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). Then, the risks were classified with the help of a risk decision matrix (RDM), and appropriate treatment strategies were presented according to the level of importance of each risk.

Findings

Considering the obtained magnitude for each risk and its rating, building collapse and noise pollution were identified as the most and least significant risks, respectively. The results of this study were in good agreement with the data provided by the Iranian Ministry of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare, as well as obtained results of the previous studies on demolition.

Originality/value

This paper provides a novel framework for assessing the risks in building demolition operations. The findings of this study help demolition project managers to manage the risks in their projects properly.

Abstract

Purpose

The study aims to focus on rotation effects on a ribbed channel of gas turbine blades for internal cooling. The combination and interaction between secondary flows generated by angled rib geometry and Coriolis forces in the rotating channel are studied numerically.

Design/methodology/approach

A radially outward flow passage as an internal cooling test model with and without ribs is used to perform the investigation. Aspect ratio of the passage is 1:1. Square ribs with e/Dh = 0.1, p/e = 10 and four various rib angles of 90°, 75°, 60° and 45° are configured on both the leading and trailing surfaces along the rotating duct. The study covers a Reynolds number of 10,000 and Rotation number in the range of 0-0.15.

Findings

Nusselt numbers in the ribbed duct are 2.5 to 3.5 times those of a smooth square duct, depending on the Rotation number and rib angle. The maximum value is attained for the 45° ribbed surface. The synergy angle between the velocity and temperature gradients is improved by the angled rib secondary flows and Coriolis vortex. The decrease of the synergy angle is 8.9, 13.4, 12.1 and 10.1 per cent for the 90°, 75°, 60° and 45° ribbed channels with rotation, respectively. Secondary flow intensity is increased by rotation in the 90° and 75° ribbed ducts and is decreased in 45° and 60° ribbed cases for which the rib-induced secondary flow dominates.

Originality/value

The primary motivation behind this work is to investigate the possibility of heat transfer enhancement by vortex flow with developing turbulence in the view point of the field synergy principle and secondary flow intensity.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to measure the quality of services provided to elderly people at the most crowded governmental ambulatory clinics of Tehran Province using the SERVQUAL scale (Study 1). Moreover, the research indicates the medicine reimbursement criteria to inform the decision-makers of public health insurance organizations using the Borda method (Study 2).

Design/methodology/approach

This study was done as a cross-sectional research on 425 elderly patients who came to the clinics during 2014 and 2015. Finally, using the paired t-test, Friedman test, Borda method, SPSS, Matlab software and Delphi method, the collected data were analysed.

Findings

Regarding the perceived quality, the services assurance dimension was ranked as having the highest quality (4.48) and the accessibility dimension as the lowest one (3.22). Based on the Borda method, the most important criterion for the Iranian health insurance companies to accept a medicine in their reimbursement list is the “life-threatening conditions” factor. On the other hand, “evidence quality” is accounted as the fifth important factor.

Research limitations/implications

The main limitation was the senility of participants that makes it difficult for understanding and completing the questionnaires.

Practical implications

The results can be useful for healthcare policy makers and related authorities. Besides, public health insurers can use the findings for decision-making about the elderly diseases and the problems such as the medical expenses.

Originality/value

The present research has been done in a two-year time frame, and it is more recent than other related studies. Thus, the results are far more authentic and applicable.
