Abstract

A broad implementation of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the world economy is an important sustainable development factor. This process allows enterprises and organizations to quickly and efficiently solve economic and social problems at all levels. The impact of ICT on accounting and finance systems has undergone significant changes in recent decades. In line with this, the progress in using ICT in statistical accounting has also contributed to developing a fast and reliable accounting system in Uzbekistan. The integration of digital technologies (e.g., the 1C program) into the accounting system radically changes the methods of financial information management, accounting, and analysis, providing effective opportunities. Nevertheless, the study concluded that effective widespread adoption of ICT in accounting should be accompanied by comprehensive professional development and training. Moreover, international standards and recommendations on using digital technologies aim to study ready-made solutions of the world's leading software development organizations in this direction. To regularly improve the capacity and qualifications of employees using these systems and study the experiences of foreign countries in this field, organizations and enterprises should prioritize investing in these activities.

Abstract

The usage of AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants facilitates seamless communication, offering instant responses to inquiries and enhancing customer satisfaction. In Japan, the hospitality industry is at the forefront of this AI-driven transformation and through collaborations with technology companies, hotels are deploying AI-powered concierge services, smart room automation, and language translation systems to cater to diverse guest needs. The integration of AI in Japan's tourism sector not only enhances operational efficiency but also showcases the country's commitment to innovation and delivering exceptional customer experiences. As Japan embraces AI in its hospitality industry, it navigates the delicate balance between leveraging technology and preserving human interaction and by combining the efficiency and accuracy of AI with the warmth and personal touch of human hospitality, Japan aims to redefine the future of tourism. Moreover, AI streamlines operations by automating repetitive tasks, optimising resource allocation, and improving efficiency in areas such as reservation management, inventory control, and demand forecasting. However, along with these benefits, there are significant challenges to consider. Privacy concerns arise as AI systems collect and process personal data, necessitating robust security measures to protect sensitive information. Ethical considerations must also be addressed, as the use of AI raises questions about transparency, bias, and accountability. Furthermore, while AI enhances efficiency, there is a concern about losing the human touch that has long been a hallmark of the hospitality industry. Balancing the benefits of AI with maintaining personalised and authentic guest experiences becomes a crucial challenge.

Abstract

This study's purpose is to collate data on the existing Green Public Procurement (GPP) legal policies, frameworks and initiatives at the global level and, second, to identify the conditions required for implementing green procurement practices and programs in developing countries such as India. A structured literature review was conducted using the search terms ‘Green Public Procurement’, 'Policy’ and ‘India’. Reports, technical papers and articles in a language other than English were excluded from the search. Finally, 20 papers were shortlisted and reviewed. The study found that GPP has begun taking shape globally and necessitates capacity building at many levels, including knowledge sharing, sourcing resources, fiscal re-distribution and public awareness. National governments emerge as key players in facilitating sustainable procurement, while international bodies continue to develop prospective policy frameworks. However, GPP is at its nascency in India and will require significant pre-assessment and planning to standardize itself among big and medium enterprises. While GPP allows for environmental consciousness, its use in India also presents the potential for innovation and expanding the consumer market. Its establishment requires the government to implement a centralized body that directs GPP activity, incentivizes green technology and develops policies favouring multi-level collaboration. Further research can involve in-depth interviewing of key people in Public Procurement (PP) processes to gauge the preparedness and seriousness of the government to undertake green procurement and understand the inherent challenges in transitioning to more sustainable procurement modalities.

Abstract

Under the circumstances of the accelerated technological advance and the overlapping of various global crises in the recent years, one of the main strategic priorities of the European Union in medium and long terms consists of building resilient regional and local communities which implies the aim to protect citizens against the impact of climate changes. Considering the essential role of the human capital in this endeavor, this chapter aims to investigate the relationship between human resources and economic development focusing a SWOT analysis in the case of Romania taking into account recent developments and trends of the European and global labor market related to various aspects induced by the green transition. The analysis of the structural demo-economic characteristics of Romania’s population revealed a decline of the total population, against the background of negative demographic and net migration, the increase in the average and median age of the total population, the rise in demographic and economic dependency ratios representing serious challenges for the development strategy on short, medium and long terms. To these, increasing quantitative and qualitative shortages in the labor market are added, which complicate the advancement of the green transition in Romania. In the conclusions of this chapter, strategic milestones on policies and measures in the short, medium and long terms at macroeconomic and labor market levels are proposed.

Abstract

Wars have a negative impact on higher education as they harm staff and students and lead to a financial burden on institutions. Mobility and displacement events, such as the recent Taliban takeover of Kabul, have a significant impact on education, especially for Afghan students who were forced to flee. Displacement has a psychological impact on students and teachers, including fear, anxiety, and cultural challenges. Despite support from some organizations, the long-term impact of displacement on education remains uncertain. However, there is no quantitative data on the displacement of Afghan students in August 2021 due to the Taliban takeover of Kabul. Collecting and analyzing these data could help determine the impact of displacement on Afghan students and inform policymakers about the long-term consequences of such events. The chapter is based on interactions with these students over 18 months and provides an insight into the lives of these students after their displacement, their challenges, and their goals for the future. The views and opinions expressed in this chapter are those of the author and should not be attributed to any organizations or institutions. From the experiences of these students, it is clear that displacement is a difficult transition and presents many challenges. Nevertheless, these students are hopeful about the future and continue to strive toward their goals. This resilience and determination in the face of adversity is a testament to the strength of these students and should be admired. This knowledge has shaped the content of this chapter as well as the researcher’s thoughts and perspectives on the subject.
