Abstract
Purpose
Social media has become an inescapable part of our lives. However, recent research suggests that excessive use of social media may lead to fatigue and users’ disengagement. This study aims to examine which brand-related factors contribute to social media fatigue (SMF) and its subsequent role on driving lurking behaviors, particularly among young consumers.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on survey data from 282 young users of social media, a holistic model of brand-related drivers and outcomes of SMF was tested, emphasizing the contribution of brands’ social media presence to users’ disengagement.
Findings
Research shows that branded content overload and irrelevance, as well as branded ads intrusiveness significantly impact SMF, which in turn plays a mediating role between brand-related drivers and lurking behaviors. The authors further conclude that the impact of SMF on lurking is stronger for users who follow a larger set of brands.
Originality/value
The study contributes to social media research by addressing its “dark side” and empirically validating the role of brands’ social media presence in developing young users’ fatigue and disengagement. The study further adds to the scant literature on SMF, which was mostly developed outside the branding field. Research also provides valuable insights to brands on how to improve their social media performance.

Abstract
Purpose
The study aims to examine the impact of environmental, social and governance (ESG) disclosure on financial performance by considering the moderating impact of less and high climate-sensitive industry firms.
Design/methodology/approach
The present study is a panel data approach with a sample of the top 100 Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)-listed non-financial firms covering the years 2019–2022. Appropriate panel data models have been used to investigate the association between ESG disclosure and financial performance, followed by an instrumental variable regression model to address endogeneity. Further, the panel data interaction effect model has been used to examine the moderating impact.
Findings
The results favour the value-enhancing function of ESG disclosure. Of the three ESG components, only the G factor affects firm performance significantly. The interaction effect model suggests that the link between ESG disclosure and financial performance is moderated by industry. However, this effect is greater for less sensitive industries. The results are robust to endogeneity.
Originality/value
The study’s novelty lies in the use of the integrated “Stakeholder Capitalism Metrics”, which has not been previously used in any study to assess the ESG disclosure of corporates. To further distinguish itself, the moderating impact of high and less climate-sensitive industry firms on the ESG-financial performance link, which remains unexplored in the fast-emerging nation of India, is looked into.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to explore new variable separation solutions for a new generalized (3 + 1)-dimensional breaking soliton equation, construct novel nonlinear excitations and discuss their dynamical behaviors that may exist in many realms such as fluid dynamics, optics and telecommunication.
Design/methodology/approach
By means of the multilinear variable separation approach, variable separation solutions for the new generalized (3 + 1)-dimensional breaking soliton equation are derived with arbitrary low dimensional functions with respect to {y, z, t}. The asymptotic analysis is presented to represent generally the evolutions of rogue waves.
Findings
Fixing several types of explicit expressions of the arbitrary function in the potential field U, various novel nonlinear wave excitations are fabricated, such as hybrid waves of kinks and line solitons with different structures and other interesting characteristics, as well as interacting waves between rogue waves, kinks, line solitons with translation and rotation.
Research limitations/implications
The paper presents that a variable separation solution with an arbitrary function of three independent variables has great potential to describe localized waves.
Practical implications
The roles of parameters in the chosen functions are ascertained in this study, according to which, one can understand the amplitude, shape, background and other characteristics of the localized waves.
Social implications
The work provides novel localized waves that might be used to explain some nonlinear phenomena in fluids, plasma, optics and so on.
Originality/value
The study proposes a new generalized (3 + 1)-dimensional breaking soliton equation and derives its nonlinear variable separation solutions. It is demonstrated that a variable separation solution with an arbitrary function of three independent variables provides a treasure-house of nonlinear waves.

This study aims to examine the impact of operation management capability on firm’s innovation performance through the mediation of marketing pioneering orientation.
Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the impact of operation management capability on firm’s innovation performance through the mediation of marketing pioneering orientation.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses a quantitative method with data collected from questionnaires filled out by 189 managers of Israeli companies that operate in international markets. Based on the resource-based view and dynamic capabilities theories, this study developed and analysed the research model using SmartPLS 4 software.
Findings
The main findings show that operation management capability affects marketing pioneering orientation and firm’s innovation performance. Additionally, the findings reveal that marketing pioneering orientation serves as a partial mediator in the relationship between operation management capability and firm’s innovation performance.
Research limitations/implications
This study focuses on operation management capability and marketing pioneering orientation as two organisational characteristics that increase firm’s innovation performance. However, other organisational characteristics also can affect firm’s innovation performance. Future research could examine the effect of these characteristics on firm’s innovation performance.
Practical implications
Managers should strengthen their organisational capabilities with regard to operations management and a marketing pioneering orientation to enhance the firm’s innovation performance. Such an approach should provide the company with a competitive advantage over its rivals.
Social implications
Today, more customers are aware of the environment and are looking for greener products, packaging, recycling and logistics. Therefore, marketing PO might identify innovative and sustainable ways to improve organisations’ environmental performance by exploring new sustainable processes, modifying procedures and pursuing green supply chains.
Originality/value
The uniqueness of this study is in this study’s research model, which combines two disciplines from the research literature (logistics and marketing) and examines their effect on firm’s innovation performance.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to propose a moderated mediation model to investigate the moderating effects of environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance on the relationship between inefficient investment and firm performance and the mediating effect of firms that participate in institutional research on the relationship between investment efficiency and performance. This study also analyses the heterogeneity of the corporate nature, intensity of industrial research and development (R&D), industrial competition and regional marketization.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses a panel data fixed-effects model to conduct a regression analysis of 1,918 Chinese listed firms from 2016 to 2020. A Fisher’s permutation test is used to examine the differences between state-owned and nonstate-owned firms.
Findings
Inefficient investment negatively impacts corporate performance and higher ESG performance exacerbates this effect by attracting more institutional research which reveals more problems. State-owned enterprises perform significantly better than nonstate-owned enterprises in terms of ESG transformation. Industrial R&D intensity, competition and regional marketization also mitigate the negative effects of inefficient investment on corporate performance.
Practical implications
This study suggests that companies should consider inefficient investments that arise from agency issues in corporate ESG transformation. In addition, state-owned enterprises in ESG transformation should take the lead to achieve sustainable development more efficiently. China should balance regional marketization, encourage enterprises to increase R&D intensity, reduce industry concentration, encourage healthy competition and prevent market monopolies.
Originality/value
This study combines the agency and stakeholder theories to reveal how inefficient investments that arise from agency issues inhibit value creation in ESG initiatives.

The purpose of this study is to examine the nexus between sustainability disclosure, corruption perception and firm performance through a cross country analysis.
Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to examine the nexus between sustainability disclosure, corruption perception and firm performance through a cross country analysis.
Design/methodology/approach
The study period ranges from 2014 to 2021 and the data set comprises non-financial companies across 23 nations comprising of both developed and emerging economies. This study has used a dynamic panel data model, i.e. the system generalized method of moments (SGMM) technique, to examine this issue.
Findings
The authors find that sustainable disclosure affects firm performance positively and corruption perception decreases the financial performance. The results explain that effective higher sustainable disclosures help to achieve control and monitor resources by reducing risk and provides strong linkages and expertise. It also affirms that corruption plays a vital role in determining financial performance of the companies. The results also reveal that corruption perception does not influence the sustainable disclosure-performance sensitivity. But in case of emerging economies, corruption reduces the influence of sustainability disclosure on financial performance of the companies.
Practical implications
This study has practical implications for policymakers as well as corporate managers to consider sustainable disclosure norms while framing their policies to derive maximum benefits.
Originality/value
This study is a new investigation that explores the intertwining relationship between sustainable disclosure, corruption and firm performance across the countries.
