Abstract
Purpose
Studies have shown that customer orientation has a substantial impact on a business's success. This study examines the effects of positive personality on salespeople's proactive customer orientation (PCO) and responsive customer orientation (RCO) by incorporating the effects of job enthusiasm and transformational leadership.
Design/methodology/approach
A questionnaire survey is conducted. A total of 511 questionnaires are received from Taiwan's life insurance salespeople. Partial least squares (PLS) regression is used to test the hypotheses.
Findings
The results show that positive personality influences PCO and RCO both directly and indirectly through job enthusiasm. The effect of transformational leadership is also found to be significant. Financial service companies should be concerned about the important role of positive personality and transformational leadership in promoting job enthusiasm, PCO and RCO among salespeople.
Originality/value
Previous studies mostly focused on the direct relationship between customer orientation and organizational outcomes, neglecting the role of individual personality. This gap leaves us wondering how a positive personality influences a salesperson's proactive and responsive customer orientation. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first study to examine the mechanisms of a positive personality, job enthusiasm, and transformational leadership on salespeople's PCO and RCO.

Abstract
Purpose
This study evaluates the impact of government social protection interventions on households’ welfare in South Africa.
Design/methodology/approach
The study uses survey data comprising 393 observations and the multinomial logistic regression technique to analyse the effect of government interventions on households’ welfare. For robustness purposes, a negative binomial regression model is also estimated whose results corroborate the main results from the multinomial regression model.
Findings
The study’s findings show that government economic interventions through social protection significantly reduce the likelihood of a decrease in household income or consumption. COVID-19 grant/social relief of distress grant, unemployment insurance, tax relief and job protection and creation are all significant in sustaining household income and consumption.
Practical implications
The findings have policy implications for social development. Specifically, the findings support the use of government social protection as a safety net for low-income groups in South Africa.
Originality/value
The study presents preliminary evidence on the effectiveness of several measures used to ameliorate the COVID-19-induced recession within the South African context.

Purpose
Online food delivery service has evolved swiftly and stretched the bounds of the catering business. In the gig economy, being a food delivery rider draws employees with the promise of flexibility and independence. To this end, the purpose of this paper is to explore the main themes shared in online reviews by food delivery riders and which of these themes are linked to positive and negative ratings.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors used 729 employee reviews posted on the Glassdoor website. In addition, they used content analysis to examine reviews of Uber Eats online food ordering company shared by food delivery riders on an online platform.
Findings
The results of this study include seven main themes: “earning,” “customers,” “orders,” “tips,” “car,” “flexible schedule” and “app” (navigation). Positive concepts are associated with “earning,” “orders,” “tips” and “flexible schedule.” Negative themes are linked to the “app” (navigation), “car” and “customers.”
Practical implications
Management should consider online reviews as employees’ opinions and voices. Specifically, management should provide financial support to employees for car maintenance, offer insurance for income stability and arrange training programs to enable them to use several tip-enhancing behaviors.
Originality/value
No research has been conducted using online reviews from an employment search engine to investigate employees’ experiences of online food delivery. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is one of the first attempts using user-generated content from an employment search engine to explore employees’ experiences.

Abstract
Purpose
The development of digital technology has provided technical support to various industries. Specifically, Internet-based freight platforms can ensure the high-quality development of the logistics industry. Online freight platforms can use cargo transportation insurance to improve their service capabilities, promote their differentiated development, create products with platform characteristics and increase their core competitiveness.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses a generalised linear model to fit the claim probability and claim intensity data and analyses freight insurance pricing based on the freight insurance claim data of a freight platform in China.
Findings
Considering traditional pricing risk factors, this study adds two risk factors to fit the claim probability data, that is, the purchase behaviour of freight insurance customers and road density. The two variables can significantly influence the claim probability, and the model fitting outcomes obtained with the logit connection function are excellent. In addition, this study examines the model results under various distribution types for the fitting of the claim intensity data. The fitting outcomes under a gamma distribution are superior to those under the other distribution types, as measured by the Akaike information criterion.
Originality/value
With actual data from an online freight platform in China, this study empirically proves that a generalised linear model is superior to traditional pricing methods for freight insurance. This study constructs a generalised linear pricing model considering the unique features of the freight industry and determines that the transportation distance, cargo weight and road density have a significant influence on the claim probability and claim intensity.

Abstract
Purpose
The Islamic financial system consists of three functional areas of Islamic banking, Islamic insurance and the Islamic capital market, which, with its development and progress, has become an important part of the global financial market and as an alternative, efficient financial model in front of the financial system. Takaful insurance is a relatively new but growing sector of the Islamic financial industry. Today, this insurance has attracted the attention of many researchers and executives. To further improve, it is important to identify the key factors according to the demand and also to evaluate their importance. In Iran’s insurance industry, Takaful product has not yet been released, and insurers have recently entered this field. Therefore, the purpose of this paper, an attempt has been made to identify the factors affecting the demand for Takaful insurance in Iran. The results of this research can be useful for policymakers and Takaful providers in formulating appropriate strategies to increase the demand for Takaful insurance.
Design/methodology/approach
In this regard, in this research, using library studies, indicators affecting demand were identified. After that, using a field study and distributing a questionnaire among experts in the field of research, the importance of the indicators was analyzed relative to each other and the indicators were ranked based on their importance.
Findings
Based on the results, the indicators are divided into five categories of economic, social, demographic, marketing and sales and features of Takaful insurance products.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study regarding the identification and ranking of factors affecting the demand for Takaful insurance in Iran’s insurance industry.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to conceptualize job immobility concepts, e.g. staying in an unsatisfying job and perceiving limited opportunities to move and apply for another job. The existing literature on this situation of job immobility in which the employee is experiencing stuckness in the job is scattered across research domains, limited in scope and existing constructs are not clearly defined or operationalized.
Design/methodology/approach
In this conceptual paper, the authors propose the construct “locked at the job,” by reviewing and building on the job immobility literature and the theory of control and self-regulation.
Findings
This study defines the concept that consists of two dimensions as feeling dissatisfied in the current job and inactivity due to perceived limited job opportunities. This study proposes a conceptual model of antecedents and consequences of locked at the job, based on the person-environment fit theory.
Practical implications
This conceptual paper allows value to be added in practice by the conceptualization of locked at the job, in addition to providing a preview with respect to conceptual causes and consequences of this phenomenon.
Originality/value
Research on this job immobility phenomenon is scattered across different research domains, limited in scope and the concept has not been clearly defined or operationalized.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to examine the mismatch between multidimensional deprivation and monetary poverty in identifying the poor in Egypt and investigates their determinants empirically.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper uses the Alkire-Foster multidimensional poverty measurement method using data from Egypt’s 2017/2018 Household Income, Expenditure and Consumption Survey (HIECS 2017/2018). Using a logistic regression model, the paper assesses the empirical relationship between multidimensional and monetary poverty and their determinants at the aggregate level and by dimension.
Findings
The paper demonstrates a significant mismatch between multidimensional and monetary poverty measures, underscoring their complementary nature. Statistics indicate that both measures overlap in classifying 35.81% of Egyptians, whereas monetary poverty ignores 63.12% of multidimensionally poor in at least one dimension. Regression estimates show a significant moderate negative association between expenditure per capita and multidimensional poverty and its dimensions. Moreover, they show that household head’s gender, age, education attainment, marital status, job proficiency, household size and location affect poverty mismatch and match in Egypt.
Practical implications
This paper offers Egyptian policymakers the multidimensional poverty index that enables more efficient designing and targeting of poverty alleviation programs and assessing current poverty alleviation programs to modify them if needed.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first to examine the mismatch between both poverty measures in Egypt, using the recent full data set of HIECS 2017/2018. This paper confirms that depending only on monetary measures can send inaccurate insights for crafting effective social policies. Also, it offers policymakers a comprehensive insight into the country’s poverty landscape, which enable more efficient design, targeting of poverty alleviation programs and monitoring their effectiveness.

Abstract
Purpose
Construction managers must focus on effective job design to develop and harness employee talent and achieve organizational goals. Because psychological needs and key motivators vary by career stage, a differentiated employee value proposition is crucial for a firm’s retention strategy. This study aims to examine how job crafting (JC) affects job embeddedness (JE) at different career stages.
Design/methodology/approach
In this investigation, a quantitative methodology was used. In total, 272 construction industry professionals from 25 construction firms in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, provided the data. Through the use of structural equation modeling, hypotheses were evaluated.
Findings
The results show that JC enhances construction professionals’ JE (β = 0.60, p < 0.000). Moreover, the relationship between JC and JE is moderated by career stages. The impact of JC on JE is greater among longer tenured (late-career stages, β = 0.61, p < 0.000) than shorter tenured construction professionals (early-career stages, β = 0.60, p < 0.000 and mid-career stages, β = 0.58, p < 0.000).
Originality/value
Limited research shows how JC can improve JE. At the time of this research, there was no published work on JC and JE relationship in the construction industry. This research found that JC has a positive impact on JE and JC behavior applies at both individual and team levels. This could imply that construction professionals with longer organizational tenure are more likely to challenge the status quo and identify problems or opportunities for improvement, hence contributes to JE theory.
