Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of study is to develop methods for damage prevention and production safety.

Design/methodology/approach

In this study, water aquifers in various districts of the Merlin Temple coal-mining area number 3-1 were examined using a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. Using FLAC-3D software, a three-dimensional numerical model based on the geological conditions of the first mining area was built to produce a numerical simulation of the fissure-zone and caving development in the area.

Findings

The simulation results, together with the traditional empirical formula, were used to produce a contour map of the distribution of these characteristics. This enabled areas to be classified according to various safety factors.

Originality/value

On the basis of the water richness in the area, coal-roof aquifers and the safety factors of different districts, as well as comprehensive coal-roof water-flow conditions and their associated dangers could be better understood.

Abstract

Purpose

This research establishes a suitable casting model for magnesium alloy wheel. The casting of the wheel is an element that must be considered in the design of the wheel. Casting is an important basic process and technology in the field of machinery which is widely used in production, transportation, national defense, social life and other aspects. Computer numerical simulation of the casting process can shorten the product manufacturing cycle, reduce product costs, reduce casting defects and ensure product quality. The casting material in this study is AZ91 magnesium alloy used for wheel lightweight.

Design/methodology/approach

Lightweight research of automobile is a significant trend, and people are paying attention to the lightweight design of automobiles. Higher requirement was proposed on design and casting performance of the wheel which is an important part of lightweighting vehicle. In order to achieve better quality, the parametric studies of alloy wheel and casting are necessary. This research designs a new model of automobile wheel, to ensure energy efficiency, the wheels must be as lightweight as possible, using magnesium alloy material for lightweight.

Findings

Analysis of casting process is a very complex issue. This research based on finite element theory and actual production, designed reasonable casting model, instant filling and solidification data were obtained. Aiming at reducing casting defects, process improvement of casting riser structure was designed. On the basis of the foundation, it has important guiding significance for actual foundry production.

Originality/value

This research establish a suitable casting model for magnesium alloy wheel. Aiming at reducing casting defects, process improvement of casting riser structure were designed.

Abstract

Purpose

Multiple input multiple-output (MIMO) has emerged as one among the many noteworthy technologies in recent wireless applications because of its powerful ability to improve bandwidth efficiency and performance, i.e. through developing its unique spatial multiplexing capability and spatial diversity gain. For carrying out an enhanced communication in next-generation networks, the MIMO and orthogonal frequency division multiple systems were combined that facilitate the spatial multiplexing on resource blocks (RBs) based on time-frequency. This paper aims to propose a novel approach for maximizing the throughput of cell-edge users and cell-center users.

Design/methodology/approach

In this work, the specified multi-objective function is defined as the single objective function, which is solved by the introduction of a new improved algorithm as well. This optimization problem can be resolved by the fine-tuning of certain parameters such as assigned power for RB, cell-center user, cell-edge user and RB allocation. The fine-tuning of parameters is attained by a new improved Lion algorithm (LA), termed as Lion with new cub generation (LA-NCG) model. Finally, the betterment of the presented approach is validated over the existing models in terms of signal to interference plus noise ratio, throughput and so on.

Findings

On examining the outputs, the adopted LA-NCG model for 4BS was 66.67%, 66.67% and 20% superior to existing joint processing coordinated multiple point-based dual decomposition method (JC-DDM), fractional programming (FP) and LA models. In addition, the throughput of conventional JC-DDM, FP and LA models lie at a range of 10, 45 and 35, respectively, at the 100th iteration. However, the presented LA-NCG scheme accomplishes a higher throughput of 58. Similarly, the throughput of the adopted scheme observed for 8BS was 59.68%, 44.19% and 9.68% superior to existing JC-DDM, FP and LA models. Thus, the enhancement of the adopted LA-NCG model has been validated effectively from the attained outcomes.

Originality/value

This paper adopts the latest optimization algorithm called LA-NCG to establish a novel approach for maximizing the throughput of cell-edge users and cell-center users. This is the first that work uses LA-NCG-based optimization that assists in fine-tuning certain parameters such as assigned power for RB, cell-center user, cell-edge user and RB allocation.

Abstract

Purpose

Six Sigma, as a concept, gains more and more attention and importance because of its comprehensive approach for company development and performance improvement of both products and processes. Nevertheless, Six Sigma is recognized for its complicated statistical and non‐statistical tool‐sets for reducing operational deviation. The main challenge for a successful implementation of Six Sigma is the readiness for it. In particular, as China has been developing into the world factory, the quality improvement journey has also been affected by this world‐wide trend and China enterprises have to find ways to adapt to this. This research paper aims at developing a self‐assessment model for determining the readiness of China enterprises to implement the Six Sigma approach, so that organizations can understand their wellbeing and the potential deficiencies in Six Sigma implementation.

Design/methodology/approach

An extensive literature review has been conducted to provide sufficient background information on the Six Sigma development, critical success factors and its challenges for implementing organizations, especially for China enterprises. The developed readiness self‐assessment model is validated by survey method and the collected data are analyzed to determine the effectiveness of the model.

Findings

The survey outcomes prove that the developed self‐assessment model is effective in determining the readiness of the organization for adopting a Six Sigma approach. Among the three surveyed companies, only the one with experience in quality improvement projects and Six Sigma implementation passes the assessment test. The model is able to illustrate the potential deficiencies of an organization if it intends to implement Six Sigma.

Originality/value

This paper presents the first research study to develop a Six Sigma readiness self‐assessment model targeting China enterprises. The developed model is of interest to academic researchers, business practitioners, quality improvement consultants and Six Sigma experts. The paper will provide a valuable foundation and also implications for future research studies on readiness self‐assessment models for all kinds of management system programs.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to systematically investigate the dynamic strain aging (DSA) effect in solid solution treated IN718 at different temperatures through experiments and simulations to gain an understanding of the inelastic deformation mechanisms.

Design/methodology/approach

In the present work, uniaxial tensile tests have been carried out in conjunction with finite element (FE) simulations to investigate the behaviour of the solid solution treated Inconel 718 superalloy at different temperatures and strain rates. Dynamic strain aging (DSA) effects, which manifested during the tests in the form of a negative strain rate sensitivity and stress serrations, are investigated. The most significant DSA effect occurs at 500°C and at a strain rate of 10–4 s-1. In a newly proposed rate-dependent constitutive formulation, the DSA model, proposed by McCormick, Kubin and Estrin, was introduced into slip-assisted solute hardening, and an activation energy-dependent exponential flow rule was adopted.

Findings

The observed negative strain rate sensitivity and stress serrations are well predicted by a 3 D FE. The FE results indicate that the equivalent plastic strain rate distribution in the specimen gauge length is as highly inhomogeneous as in the other materials exhibiting DSA effects such as aluminium and titanium alloy. During inelastic deformation, propagating high strain rate bands can be closely correlated to the stress serrations.

Originality/value

For the DSA effect in solid solution treated IN718, the existing researching mainly focuses on the mechanical properties experiment and microstructure observation. In this study, a constitutive formulation, combined with the DSA model, has been proposed, and the mechanical behaviors, including the DSA effect, have been well predicted by a finite element model.

With the development of social economy, the urbanization of the world has presented a new development trend. The green, ecological, and economic city has gradually attracted people's attention. How to plan new cities and towns to coordinate economic development with nature has been the focus of domestic and foreign scholars. Based on this premise, this article elaborates the domestic and foreign research status of ecological city and puts forward a new type of green ecological civilization from the perspective of evolution of civilization. From the perspective of green ecological economy, the evolution of China's urban planning is studied in terms of the urban and rural areas, nature, pollution, industry, culture, and other aspects. To accumulate experience, green ecological planning in New York is also analyzed at multiple levels, such as urban expansion, energy, and urban water use. According to the development of our country in the past 30 years, the development strategy of urbanization suitable to China's national conditions is introduced on the basis of ecological economy. From the perspective of green ecological planning and economy, practice has proved that new urban planning is able to promote the establishment of a resource-saving society, to enhance the coordinated development of the population, resources, environment, and economy, and to comprehensively improve people's quality of life.

Abstract

The Incheon Region has numerous assets that fall within a Pentaport model.' These include the Incheon International Airport, the Port of Incheon, a coastal industrial park, free economic zones, a leisure port, and Songdo new town designed to be the future Silicon Valley of Korea. This paper looks at how Northeast Asia trade flows between China and Korea might be enhanced by application of the Pentaport model in making the Incheon region a North East Asian Hub. It looks also at their trade and logistics systems as well as their water borne commerce. It proposes an integrated transportation system for the Yellow Sea Region being beneficial to the economies of the Northeast Asia. It also stresses that innovative technologies for ships, terminals and cargo handling systems should be introduced to develop a competitive short sea shipping system in the region and cooperation among the regional countries will be essential to achieve the final goal. The potential of methods of container shipping is discussed as it might apply to short sea shipping in the Yellow Sea Region that could greatly facilitate Incheon's situation with respect to the broader region in application of the Pentaport model.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to provide the historical background of genealogical records and analyze the value of Chinese genealogical research through the study of names and genealogical resources.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper examines the historical evolution and value of Chinese genealogical records, with the focus on researching the Islamic Chinese names used by the people living in Guilin. The highlight of this paper includes the analysis and evolution of the Islamic Chinese names commonly adopted by the local people in Guilin. It concludes with the recommendations on emphasizing and making the best use of genealogical records to enhance the research value of Chinese overseas studies.

Findings

The paper covers the history of Islam and describes how the religion was introduced into China, as well as Muslims' ethnicity and identity. It also places focus on the importance of building a research collection in Asian history and Chinese genealogy.

Research limitations/implications

This research study has a strong subject focus on Chinese genealogy, Asian history, and Islamic Chinese surnames. It is a narrow field that few researchers have delved into.

Practical implications

The results of this study will assist students, researchers, and the general public in tracing the origin of their surnames and developing their interest in the social and historical value of Chinese local history and genealogies.

Social implications

The study of Chinese surnames is, by itself, a particular field for researching the social and political implications of contemporary Chinese society during the time the family members lived.

Originality/value

Very little research has been done in the area of Chinese local history and genealogy. The paper would be of value to researchers such as historians, sociologists, ethnologists and archaeologists, as well as students and anyone interested in researching a surname origin, its history and evolution.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of current study aims to provide a different perspective on customer-based brand equity (CBBE) and integrate this with previous brand equity theory to contribute to the brand equity literature.

Design/methodology/approach

Proposed hypotheses were verified using structural equation modelling (SEM) with multiple datasets. Study 1 collected data from 574 foreign tourists and 624 domestic tourists of culinary tourism. Study 2 used 1,020 customers from anti-epidemic restaurants, and Study 3 investigated 464 hotel customers’ perceptions of customer-based brand equity.

Findings

Building on the mediation-moderation model, the present study posits that perceived quality relates to brand loyalty through brand image and brand awareness of using 2,682 participants. Specifically, we argue that this indirect relationship exhibits a difference moderated pattern in which motivation and hedonic function are most likely to benefit from revisit destinations for tourists when they are moderate. We further explored the new anti-epidemic concepts of COVID-19 and identified restaurant operation as an important moderator that influences customer image of restaurant revisit.

Originality/value

Until now, no tourism and hospitality studies have addressed these unsolved problems in an integrated manner. This study was to investigate the brand equity development process.

Abstract

Purpose

Although numerous studies have been conducted to explore the impact of various factors on employees' turnover intention and intention to remain with the organization, the relationship between these two constructs remains largely unexplored. Considering the significance of these constructs, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the authors aimed to investigate their association within an academic environment using a dynamic modeling approach.

Design/methodology/approach

This study follows a quantitative approach and utilizes a longitudinal survey design. The authors utilized a cross-lagged panel model (CLPM) and employed the parametric efficient partial least squares (PLSe2) methodology to estimate the dynamic model using data gathered from lecturers associated with both public and private universities in Malaysia. In order to offer methodological insights to applied higher education researchers, the authors also compared the results with maximum likelihood (ML) estimation.

Findings

The findings of the authors' study indicate a reciprocal relationship between turnover intention and intention to remain with the organization, with intention to remain with the organization being a stronger predictor. Moreover, situational factors were found to have a greater influence on eliciting turnover intention within academic settings. As anticipated, the use of the PLSe2 methodology resulted in higher R2 values compared to ML estimation, thereby reinforcing the effectiveness of PLS-based methods in explanatory-predictive modeling in applied studies.

Practical implications

The authors' findings suggest prioritizing policies that enhance training and consultation sessions to foster positive attitudes among lecturers. Positive attitudes significantly impact judgment-driven behaviors like turnover intention and intention to remain with the organization. Additionally, improving working environments, which indirectly influence judgment-driven behaviors through factors like affective work events, affect and attitudes, should also be considered.

Originality/value

This study pioneers the examination of the causal relationship between turnover intention and intention to remain with the organization, their stability over time and the association of changes in these variables using a dynamic CLPM in higher education. It introduces the novel application of the cutting-edge PLSe2 methodology in estimating a CLPM, providing valuable insights for researchers in explanatory-predictive modeling.
