Design/methodology/approach

This briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context.

Findings

This paper aimed to explore the relationship between organizational developmental HR practices and employees' commitment to their organizational career (COC), while examining the impacting role of psychological availability and the additional impacts of organizational links and employee fit. The study found that psychological availability drives the positive effect of developmental HR practices on COC, and this effect is stronger for employees with closer organizational links and better fit within the organization. The two most pertinent managerial insights are to: (1) invest in comprehensive developmental HR practices to nurture employee growth and commitment, and (2) to foster a work environment that promotes psychological availability and cultivates strong links and fit within the organization.

Abstract

Purpose

This article aims to gather lessons from a research interchange between England and The Netherlands, reflecting on the countries’ delivery of integrated care across adult and elderly long-term care and how to transfer learning across contexts.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper describes the Dutch health and care system, using four key components of integrated care described in the literature: person-centred, expert knowledge, continuity and coordination.

Findings

The Dutch deliver integrated care expertise in each component assessed. The weakest integrated care characteristics in England are multi-sectoral coordination and person-centred care.

Originality/value

This article develops an overview of integrated care delivery in The Netherlands and puts a spotlight on the importance of exchanging real-world experiences, not just evidence-based, to collaboratively improve integrated care in England. There is no need to reinvent the all-wheel, a lot of good is already done, tested and proved.

Purpose

This paper aims to review the latest management developments across the globe and pinpoint practical implications from cutting-edge research and case studies.

Design/methodology/approach

This briefing is prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context.

Findings

This research paper examines the impact of happiness at the workplace on organizational citizenship behavior and investigates the impact of organizational learning capabilities in this relationship. The results confirmed that happiness at the workplace has a significant positive influence on organizational citizenship behavior. Organizational learning capabilities also partially influence this relationship, as a happy workforce is more inclined to engage in continuous learning and development, fostering citizenship behaviors. The two most pertinent managerial insights are to foster a culture of positivity and happiness within the workplace, and to encourage and support organizational learning capabilities to unlock the full potential of a workforce that goes above and beyond its prescribed roles.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to study the influence of friction influencing factors between the wire rope and the liner on the safe use of the wire rope, which can provide guidance for the reliability design of the lifting system with strong dynamic response such as high speed, heavy load, etc., and improve the friction-driven stability of the system.

Design/methodology/approach

In this paper, the friction mechanism of wire rope and liner under the condition of excitation is investigated by means of wire rope-liner friction-vibration experimental platform and dynamic viscoelastic test of liner.

Findings

The results show that: With increasing excitation frequency, the friction between the three liner materials (G30, K25, PU) and the wire rope decreased, and the wear of the surface shape of the liners was greater. The dynamic thermomechanical analysis (DMA) test results showed that the viscoelasticity of the three liner materials increased when the frequency was increased.

Research limitations/implications

Wire ropes are widely used in deep shaft hoisting and building elevators. Its operational reliability depends on whether there is sufficient friction between the wire rope and the friction liner, and whether the friction liner has good wear resistance. The study of the friction between the wire rope and the liner influencing factors is of great significance for the safe service of the wire rope.

Practical implications

The related results can provide guidance for the reliability design of lifting systems with strong dynamic response, such as high speed and heavy load, to improve the friction drive stability of the system.

Originality/value

With the increase of mining depth, to improve the transportation efficiency of the hoist used in deep and ultra-deep mines, as well as to ensure the safety and reliability of its operation, it is crucial that the large friction hoisting equipment has sufficient friction between the wire rope and the friction lining, as well as whether the friction lining has a good abrasion resistance.

Abstract

Purpose

The traditional VeoVa10-VAc copolymer latex, which prepared via the emulsion polymerization of the mixed monomers of VAc and VeoVa10, has the poor water resistance and thermal stability because of the migration of the conventional emulsifier molecules and the low bond energy of C-C bond. The purpose of this work is that the fluorinated monomer is used to modify the latex. The film of the resultant latex has the C-F bond with high bond energy and low surface energy, which can effectively improve the heat resistance and water resistance of the resultant film. In addition, the reactive emulsifier is used to replace the conventional emulsifier. The drawbacks of the conventional emulsifier molecules migrate and desorb can be avoided when the polymer latex is stored, thereby also improving the water resistance.

Design/methodology/approach

The modified VAc-VeoVa10 latex has been successfully synthesized via the semi-continuous seeded emulsion polymerization, which VAc and VeoVa10 is used as the main monomers and HFMA was used as the functional monomer. KPS and reactive surfactants of SE-10 were used as the initiator and emulsifier, respectively. The structure of resultant latex film was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The latex films were tested by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and contact angle (CA). The particle size and its distribution of the latex were measured by the nano particle size analyzer.

Findings

The factors that had an influence on the properties of the latex and the film were investigated in detail. The stability of the resultant latex is good. The average particles of the latex and its distribution are small and uniform, respectively. In comparison with the conventional latex film, the thermal stability and hydrophobicity of the resultant latex film are improved obviously.

Practical implications

The resultant latex can be used in both the waterborne interior and exterior wall coatings, pickering stabilized waterborne polymer dispersions, polymer powders, environmentally friendly polymer-modified waterproof mortar and other fields, which can be satisfied with the high demand of thermal stability and hydrophobicity.

Originality/value

The modification of poly (VAc-VeoVa10) by reactive surfactant and fluorinated monomer is seldom reported. In this study, the fluorinated poly (VAC-VeoVa) latex is prepared via the reactive surfactants, which VAc and VeoVa10 is used as the main monomers and hexafluorobutyl methacrylate is used as the functional monomer. Potassium persulfate (KPS) and allyl nonyl phenoxy propyl alcohol polyoxyethylene ether ammonium sulfate are used as the initiator and emulsifier, respectively.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of the paper is to explore the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in academic research, highlighting their potential to transform various stages of the research process. AI tools are transforming academic research, offering numerous benefits and challenges.

Design/methodology/approach

Academic research is undergoing a significant transformation with the emergence of (AI) tools. These tools have the potential to revolutionize various aspects of research, from literature review to writing and proofreading. An overview of AI applications in literature review, data analysis, writing and proofreading, discussing their benefits and limitations is given. A comprehensive review of existing literature on AI applications in academic research was conducted, focusing on tools and platforms used in various stages of the research process. AI was used in some of the searches for AI applications in use.

Findings

The analysis reveals that AI tools can enhance research efficiency, accuracy and quality, but also raise important ethical and methodological considerations. AI tools have the potential to significantly enhance academic research, but their adoption requires careful consideration of methodological and ethical implications. The integration of AI tools also raises questions about authorship, accountability and the role of human researchers. The authors conclude by outlining future directions for AI integration in academic research and emphasizing the need for responsible adoption.

Originality/value

As AI continues to evolve, it is essential for researchers, institutions and policymakers to address the ethical and methodological implications of AI adoption, ensuring responsible integration and harnessing the full potential of AI tools to advance academic research. This is the contribution of the paper to knowledge.
