Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to develop high-pass (HP) negative group delay (NGD) investigation based on three-port lumped circuit. The main particularity of the proposed three-port passive topology is the consideration of only a single circuit element represented by a capacitor.

Design/methodology/approach

The methodology of the paper is to consider the S-matrix equivalent model derived from admittance matrix approach. So, an S-matrix equivalent model of a three-port circuit topology is established from admittance matrix approach. The frequency-dependent basic expressions are explored to perform the HP-NGD analysis. Then, the existence condition of HP-NGD function type is analytically demonstrated. The specific characteristics and synthesis equations of HP-NGD circuit with respect to the desired optimal NGD value are established.

Findings

After computing the frequency expressions to perform the HP-NGD analysis, this study demonstrated the existence condition of HP-NGD function type analytically. The validity of the HP-NGD theory is verified by a prototype of three-port circuit. The proof-of-concept (POC) single capacitor three-port circuit presents an NGD response and characteristics from analytical calculation and simulation is in very good correlation.

Originality/value

An innovative theory of HP-NGD three-port circuit is studied. The proposed HP-NGD topology is constituted by only a single capacitor. After the topological description, the S-matrix model is established from the Y-matrix by means of Kirchhoff voltage law and Kirchhoff current law equations. A POC of single capacitor three-port circuit was designed and simulated with a commercial tool. Then, a prototype with a surface-mounted device component was fabricated and tested. As expected, simulation and measurement results in very good agreement with the calculated model show the feasibility of the HP-NGD behavior. This work is compared to other NGD-type function with diverse number of ports and components.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to study, a bridged-T topology with inductorless passive network used as a bandpass (BP) negative group delay (NGD) function.

Design/methodology/approach

The BP NGD topology under study is composed of an inductorless passive resistive capacitive network. The circuit analysis is elaborated from the equivalent impedance matrix. Then, the analytical model of the C-shunt bridged-T topology voltage transfer function is established. The BP NGD analysis of the considered topology is developed in function of the bridged-T parameters. The NGD properties and characterizations of the proposed topology are analytically expressed. Moreover, the relevance of the BP NGD theory is verified with the design and fabrication of surface mounted device components-based proof-of-concept (PoC).

Findings

From measurement results, the BP NGD network with −151 ns at the center frequency of 1 MHz over −6.6 dB attenuation is in very good agreement with the C-shunt bridged-T PoC.

Originality/value

This paper develops a mathematical modeling theory and measurement of a C-shunt bridged-T network circuit.

Abstract

Purpose

The operation of water environment treatment Public-Private Partnership projects (WETP-PPP) is crucial to the project effectiveness. However, there are often problems in projects that attach importance to construction and neglect operation management, which seriously affect the project operation effect. To ensure the good operation effect of the WETP-PPP, an evolutionary game model of the regulation strategy during the operation period of WETP-PPP is constructed.

Design/methodology/approach

An evolutionary game model of regulation is established which considers the government, the project company and the public in water environment treatment Public-Private Partnership projects (WETP-PPP). Five scenarios of equilibriums and the game's evolutionary stable strategies are analyzed, and the corresponding stability conditions are then obtained. Finally, through the simulation, the influence of different factors on the choice of the three-party strategy is analyzed.

Findings

First, the key factors that affect the evolution game are the regulation costs and performance rewards of the government, the project company's operation costs and penalties for opportunism and the public supervision costs and rewards. Second, in order to ensure the operation effect, the government needs the performance incentive from the superior government. Third, the public's supervision enthusiasm needs to be mobilized by the government. Last, the penalty strength of speculative operation should be strong enough to play a deterrent role.

Research limitations/implications

The theoretical research in this paper has some limitations. Initially, due to the large number of participants in WETP-PPP, in addition to the government department, the project company and the public studied in this paper, it also involves the consulting industry and financial institutions. In the future, more participants can be added to form four-party interest relationships and conduct four-party evolutionary game research. Second, the operation environment of WETP-PPP is complex and changeable, and various influencing factors are intertwined, the number of parameters involved in this paper is limited, and further detailed research is needed in the future.

Practical implications

Based on the evolutionary game theory, this article discusses the evolution law of the tripartite game behavior of the government department, the project company and the public, which is helpful to clarify the strategy evolution path of the tripartite in the WETP-PPP, and the generation condition and evolution mechanism of the equilibrium strategy of the tripartite game. The key parameters affecting the tripartite strategy selection are analyzed through simulation, which can provide reference for the government department to formulate relevant measures. At the same time, it broadens the application field of evolutionary games and supplements the research on the management mechanism of WETP-PPP during the operation period.

Social implications

Based on the evolutionary game theory, this paper introduces the supervision behavior of the public, which can provide a new perspective for researchers to conduct relevant research. Secondly, for the regulation during the operation of WETP-PPP, this paper can provide reference for the government department to establish a scientific public supervision system, improve the government supervision mechanism and other relevant measures, which can help promote the public supervision willingness, improve the regulation efficiency of the government and guide the project company to reduce speculation, so as to ensure the effect of water environment management.

Originality/value

This paper focuses on the regulation of WETP-PPP during the operation period to research interactions among the government, the project company and the public. Based on the analysis of the evolutionary game, some suggestions are put forward, such as perfecting the government regulation mechanism, optimizing the reward and punishment system for the project company and broadening the channels of public supervision. The research results of this paper can provide support for the government's regulation of WETP-PPP and ensure the project operation effect.

Abstract

The present study focusses on algorithmic aspects related to deformation dependent loads in non‐linear static finite element analysis. If the deformation dependency is considered only on the right hand side, a considerable increase in the number of iterations follows. It may also cause failure of convergence in the proximity of critical points. If in turn the deformation dependent loading is included within the consistent linearization, an additional left hand side term emerges, the so‐called load stiffness matrix. In this paper several numerical test cases are used to show and quantify the influence of the two different approaches on the iteration process. Consideration of the complete load stiffness matrix may result in a cumbersome coding effort, different for each load case, and in certain cases its derivation is even not practicable at all. Therefore also several formulations for approximated load stiffness matrices are presented. It is shown that these simplifications not only reduce the additional effort for linearization and implementation, but also keep the iterative costs relatively small and still allow the calculation of the entire equilibrium path.

Purpose

Public reviews on educational robots are of great importance for the design, development and management of the most advanced robots with an educational purpose. This study explores the public attitudes and emotions toward educational robots through online reviews on Weibo and Twitter by using text mining methods.

Design/methodology/approach

Our study applied topic modeling to reveal latent topics about educational robots through online reviews on Weibo and Twitter. The similarities and differences in preferences for educational robots among public on different platforms were analyzed. An enhanced sentiment classification model based on three-way decision was designed to evaluate the public emotions about educational robots.

Findings

For Weibo users, positive topics tend to the characteristics, functions and globalization of educational robots. In contrast, negative topics are professional quality, social crisis and emotion experience. For Twitter users, positive topics are education curricula, social interaction and education supporting. The negative topics are teaching ability, humanistic care and emotion experience. The proposed sentiment classification model combines the advantages of deep learning and traditional machine learning, which improves the classification performance with the help of the three-way decision. The experiments show that the performance of the proposed sentiment classification model is better than other six well-known models.

Originality/value

Different from previous studies about attitudes analysis of educational robots, our study enriched this research field in the perspective of data-driven. Our findings also provide reliable insights and tools for the design, development and management of educational robots, which is of great significance for facilitating artificial intelligence in education.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to develop a familiarity analysis of resistive-capacitive (RC) network active circuit operating with unfamiliar low-pass (LP) type negative group delay (NGD) behavior. The design method of NGD circuit is validated by simulation with commercial tool and experimental measurement.

Design/methodology/approach

The present research work methodology is structured in three main parts. The familiarity theory of RC-network LP-NGD circuit is developed. The LP-NGD circuit parameters are expressed in function of the targeted time-advance. Then, the feasibility study is based on the theory, simulation and measurement result comparisons.

Findings

The RC-network based LP-NGD proof of concept is validated with −1 and −0.5 ms targeted time-advances after design, simulation, test and characterized. The LP-NGD circuit unity gain prototype presents NGD cut-off frequencies of about 269 and 569 Hz for the targeted time-advances, −1 and −0.5 ms, respectively. Bi-exponential and arbitrary waveform signals were tested to verify the targeted time-advance.

Research limitations/implications

The performance of the unfamiliar LP-NGD topology developed in the present study is limited by the parasitic elements of constituting lumped components.

Practical implications

The NGD circuit enables to naturally reduce the undesired delay effect from the electronic and communication systems. The NGD circuit can be exploited to reduce the delay induced by electronic devices and system.

Social implications

As social impacts of the NGD circuit application, the NGD function is one of prominent solutions to improve the technology performances of future electronic device in term of communication aspect and the transportation system.

Originality/value

The originality of the paper concerns the theoretical approach of the RC-network parameters in function of the targeted time-advance and the input signal bandwidth. In addition, the experimental results are also particularly original.

Discusses the component assignment problem in PCB assembly, where assigning components to appropriate machines, in order to get a minimum assembly time for the assembly line, can be formulated as an integer linear programming model. In order to obtain the optimal solution to the component assignment problem, the branch‐and‐bound method can be applied. However, it is not efficient. Applies the tabu search heuristic to the component assignment problem. The procedure of the tabu search to the problem is presented, and a numerical example is provided. Finally, the performance of the tabu search is analyzed with the example.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the optimization for a placement machine in printed circuit board (PCB) assembly when family setup strategy is adopted.

Design/methodology/approach

A complete mathematical model is developed for the integrated problem to optimize feeder arrangement and component placement sequences so as to minimize the makespan for a set of PCB batches. Owing to the complexity of the problem, a specific genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed.

Findings

The established model is able to find the minimal makespan for a set of PCB batches through determining the feeder arrangement and placement sequences. However, exact solutions to the problem are not practical due to the complexity. Experimental tests show that the proposed GA can solve the problem both effectively and efficiently.

Research limitations/implications

When a placement machine is set up for production of a set of PCB batches, the feeder arrangement of the machine together with the component placement sequencing for each PCB type should be solved simultaneously so as to minimize the overall makespan.

Practical implications

The paper investigates the optimization for PCB assembly with family setup strategy, which is adopted by many PCB manufacturers for reducing both setup costs and human errors.

Originality/value

The paper investigates the feeder arrangement and placement sequencing problems when family setup strategy is adopted, which has not been studied in the literature.
