Abstract
Human development encompasses not only income, other factors of life such as education and health are equally important. Investments in education and health positively impact the development of any region. Therefore, development in general and human development in particular of a region highlights not only the application of income but also the (actual) living conditions of people. It should also focus on the living conditions of women. This can somehow be assessed by looking at the Gender Development Index (GDI), introduced by the UNDP in 1995 as the intital Human Development Index (HDI) did not address gender-related issues. The present study thus tries to examine gender inequality in terms of education and health in the North Bengal region as it can have adverse effects on the overall development in the region. The study relies on the available secondary data on education and health. It is imperative that we realize the need to narrow the gender gap for development to be inclusive as investing in women's education and health can contribute to holistic economic growth and development.

Abstract
In the era of globalization, we have large market. Here, each one has to offer something for its survival or sustenance. Now, to capture the market of any product, the customer's satisfaction is essential. Government supported higher education institutions or the knowledge providing sectors day by day facing challenges both from nation's private institutions and global academic institutions. Students satisfaction obtained from the outcome or services provided by the institution is essential for its sustenance. Given that education is an experienced good, its efficacy can be measured by evaluating its effect on users, that is, students. Under these circumstances, it becomes very important to measure the level of satisfaction from the angle of the students of higher education institutions specially financed by government. An attempt has been taken in this chapter to measure students' satisfaction in master's level students of the University of North Bengal. This study is completely based on primary data collected from the structured questionnaire. Logistic regression model is used in this study as methodology.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to estimate the relationship between defect structure with gas concentration for use as a gas sensor. The change in defect concentration caused a shift in the Fermi level, which in turn changed the surface potential, which is manifested as the potentiometric response of the sensing element.
Design/methodology/approach
A new theoretical concept based on defect chemistry and band structure was used to explain the experimental gas response of a sensor. The theoretically simulated response was compared with experimental results.
Findings
Understanding the origin of potentiometric response, through the generation of defects and a corresponding shift in Fermi level of sensing surface, by the adsorption of gas. Through this understanding, the design of a sensor with improved selectivity and stability to a gas can be achieved by the study of defect structure and subsequent band analysis.
Research limitations/implications
This paper provides information about various types of surface defects and numerical simulation of material with defect structure. The Fermi energy of the simulated value is correlated with the potentiometric sensor response.
Practical implications
Gas sensors are an integral part of vehicular and industrial pollution control. The theory developed shows the origin of response which can help in identifying the best sensing material and its optimum temperature of operation.
Social implications
Low-cost, reliable and highly sensitive gas sensors are highly demanded which is fulfilled by potentiometric sensors.
Originality/value
The operating principle of potentiometric sensors is analyzed through electron band structure analysis. With the change in measured gas concentration, the oxygen partial pressure changes. This results in a change in defect concentration in the sensing surface. Band structure analysis shows that change in defect concentration is associated with a shift in Fermi level. This is the origin of the potentiometric response.

Purpose
Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of today’s rising technologies. AI is a commonly used technology in library services that have the potential to revolutionise the best offerings in the information age. With AI in libraries, users can explore the world of knowledge like never before with smart recommendations tailored to their needs. Overall, AI can enhance the library experience of both the users and library professionals with innovation and smart decisions. Hence, there is no doubt that AI and libraries have a close relationship; nonetheless, the usage and understanding of AI in library services continue to raise concerns, especially in the developing countries which this paper addresses. The purpose of this research paper is to review the current prospects and challenges of implementing AI in library services in developing countries. The primary objective of the study is to discern the pivotal predicaments and obstacles these nations face while implementing AI-based solutions and to propose pragmatic solutions.
Design/methodology/approach
The present study adopts a qualitative approach, using content analysis techniques to glean meaningful insights. An extensive review of the extant literature on the subject was conducted, which was meticulously analysed to furnish the findings of this study. The review is limited to English language sources, and searches were conducted using various online academic databases.
Findings
The review reveals that the prospects of implementing AI in library services in developing countries are significant, with potential benefits including improved access to information, increased efficiency and productivity and enhanced user experience. However, the review also identifies several challenges, including the lack of infrastructure and resources, the shortage of skilled personnel, the absence of data privacy regulations, digital divide and the high cost of implementing AI-based solutions.
Practical implications
The review suggests several practical solutions to overcome the challenges faced by developing countries in implementing AI in library services. These include partnerships between libraries and technology firms, investment in infrastructure and resources, training and capacity building for library staff and the development of regulatory frameworks to protect user data.
Originality/value
This research paper provides a comprehensive review of the prospects and challenges of implementing AI in library services in developing countries. The study is original in its focus on the perspectives of developing countries, their problems and obstacles. The study also provides practical recommendations that can be used by library managers, policymakers and technology firms to support the implementation of AI-based solutions in developing countries.

Abstract
The aspect of economic contrast seen in developing countries shoots primarily from the structure of loan allocation to the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector, which is essential for job creation and understanding the role of microfinance institutions (MFIs) in meeting the credit demands of the vulnerable but vital sector of less developed economies. The study demonstrates the impact of MSME protection in terms of both fixed and adjustable factor coefficient settings, creating a model of a small open economy with three sectors: a skill-intensive export sector; a capital-intensive import competing sector; and a labour-intensive import competing and intermediate products producing sector. It analyzes the types of protection that aid in the expansion of credit and the alleviation of capital constraints, which further highlights the insufficiencies of tariff protection for the organized sector and simple credit guarantee policies to provide adequate credit flow and thus continued MSME growth. Finally, it considers the importance of priority sector lending policies in ensuring adequate credit distribution to this sector. The results show that protection helps in enhancing flow of credit and thereby works to relax the capital constraint. However, the tariff protection for organized sector may positively or negatively affect the non-traded unorganized sector.
