Abstract

Purpose

Internet of Things (IoT) involves connecting physical objects to the internet to provide opportunities to build smart systems or applications. IoT paradigm assumes many devices connected over a conventional intent network. These devices usually have restricted resources, so moving part of the service implementation to a cloud infrastructure is a prominent solution. This study aims to proposes in this project human voice as a potential interface for one or more devices in IoT ecosystem enabling issuing commands and receiving information.

Design/methodology/approach

System design is the process of defining the elements of a system such as the architecture, modules and components, the different interfaces of those components and the data that goes through that system. It is meant to satisfy specific needs and requirements of a business or organization through the engineering of a coherent and well-running system.

Findings

The main aim of this proposed work is to develop a ticket booking application that performs all the operations by speech recognition. Hence, visually impaired people can make use of this application. There are several applications that help visually impaired people. This application adds extra features to those available soft wares. Using this, visually impaired people can book the tickets without the help of personal assistants. For future research, this study hopes to extend this application to perform various other operations that will help visually impaired people to do their daily activities like normal people without the help of personal assistants. For example, making a phone call, sending text messages, booking a taxi, easy navigation, etc.

Originality/value

System design involves the identification of classes, their relationship as well as their collaboration. In objector, classes are divided into entity classes and control classes.

Abstract

Introduction: The rapid growth of high technology has urged many organisations to dynamically look for innovative ways, ideas, testing, and ingenious solution in improving their current product, process, system, and technology. For contemporary business, artificial intelligence (AI)-based people analytics is an instrument currently employed to develop a better prosperous future.

Purpose: The study aims to investigate the usage of AI in human resource management (HRM) practices. It also examines the benefits and challenges of using AI in implementing people analytics in organisations.

Methodology: This chapter contains a systemic review of articles and papers on analytics. The presented qualitative study did a literature review based on the articles published in the last five years and extracted from the Scopus database.

Findings: This chapter indicated that AI-based people analytics is on the verge of changing various aspects of HRM practices better to furnish it for a vibrant, ever-changing workplace. It concludes different usage of AI in people analytics for better managing human resources (HR) at the workplace. Also explored the benefits and challenges of implementing AI in the people analytics domain.

Implications: This chapter will help understand ongoing practices of AI-enabled process benefits and challenges. This insight will help develop a better AI-enabled function for a better decision-making system. The future scope of the study is how to overcome the challenges.

Abstract

Purpose

Generative pretrained transformers (GPTs), soaring to one million users at lightning speed, outpaced social media giants (15 times faster) (Buchholz, 2023). Despite this, scant research explored GPT’s impact on the digital entrepreneurial intentions (EIs) of students and tech-savvy generations. This study aims to pioneer a fusion of the technology acceptance model (TAM) and the theory of planned behavior (TPB), bridging the gap in research.

Design/methodology/approach

In this bold quantitative quest, business administration students became fearless participants, engaging in a survey of profound significance. Guided by the mighty powers of G*Power and Stata’s structural equation modeling builder, the intricate relationships within a robust sample of (n = 400) were unraveled.

Findings

The mediating power of GPT usefulness and GPT ease of use part of the TAM emerges, paving the way for a future brimming with digital entrepreneurship (DE) boundless possibilities. Predictably, the study found that TPB constructs also affect the EI of students.

Originality/value

This groundbreaking study brings together the powerful combination of TAM and TPB, while pioneering the exploration of GPT models’ mediating role. Its findings offer invaluable contributions to the field of DE and policymakers.

Abstract

Purpose

This study assesses the SDG-related well-being of indigenous communities in India using bibliometric analysis and the ADO-TCM framework. It provides insights into their alignment with sustainable development objectives.

Design/methodology/approach

This study analysed 74 high-impact journals using bibliometric analysis to evaluate the well-being of India’s indigenous peoples about the SDGs.

Findings

This study analyses the well-being of tribal communities in India using existing scholarly articles and the ADO-TCM framework. It emphasises the importance of implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to promote the well-being of indigenous populations.

Originality/value

This study uses bibliometric analysis and the ADO-TCM framework to investigate factors impacting tribal community welfare. It proposes theoretical frameworks, contextual considerations and research methodologies to achieve objectives.

Abstract

Purpose

Teachers at all levels of the education system are expected to model leadership qualities to students. Leadership qualities of level advisers (LAs) are regarded as charismatic, pragmatic, ideological and innovative (CPII) in this study. This study compared the leadership qualities of LAs in universities in Nigeria as perceived by students. The purpose of this paper is to compare the leadership qualities of LAs in universities in Nigeria as perceived by students.

Design/methodology/approach

A survey-comparative design of a quantitative research approach was used. Two universities were purposively selected and the convenience sampling method was applied to select 207 participants.

Findings

Findings revealed that LAs of the private university exhibit a slightly higher level of leadership qualities than those from the public university based on the students' assessment (t (207) = 2.19 and ρ = 0.029 < 0.05).

Research limitations/implications

The study concluded that universities should organise regular workshops for LAs on innovative leadership to stimulate 21st-century learners to achieve their educational objectives.

Practical implications

It is therefore recommended that universities should organise a regular workshop for LAs on an innovative leadership model that promotes 21st century students to achieve their educational objectives.

Originality/value

In practice, the study of this kind is timely, given that academic advisers or advisers are very influential on student achievement and success. Thus, the outcome will educate the academic advisers on the leadership qualities that will enhance their role in the 21st century. In addition, it will add to the literature on university LAs' leadership skills in Nigeria and other nations of Africa. Most literature available in the context is mainly from America.

Abstract

The model, presented here, is developed to study the axial dispersion and distribution of oil particle concentration in the presence of coriolis force of oil spilled under solid ice cover. The movement of oil slick is obtained by employing perturbation technique and the dispersion of oil is studied using generalized dispersion model proposed by Gill (1967). The mean concentration is computed by introducing a slug of finite length separated from pure solvent using suitable impermeable barriers by varying the dimensionless time, axial distance and length of solute slug. The results obtained are discussed in detail with the help of graphs and tables.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to identify significant factors, analyse them using the consistent fuzzy preference relations (CFPR) method and forecast the probability of successful deployment of the internet of things (IoT) and cloud computing (CC) in Gujarat, India’s building sector.

Design/methodology/approach

From the previous studies, 25 significant factors were identified, and a questionnaire survey with personal interviews obtained 120 responses from building experts in Gujarat, India. The questionnaire survey data’s validity, reliability and descriptive statistics were also assessed. Building experts’ opinions are inputted into the CFPR method, and priority weights and ratings for probable outcomes are obtained to forecast success and failure.

Findings

The findings demonstrate that the most important factors are affordable system and ease of use and battery life and size of sensors, whereas less important ones include poor collaboration between IoT and cloud developer community and building sector and suitable location. The forecasting values demonstrate that the factor suitable location has a high probability of success; however, factors such as loss of jobs and data governance have a high probability of failure. Based on the forecasted values, the probability of success (0.6420) is almost twice that of failure (0.3580). It shows that deploying IoT and CC in the building sector of Gujarat, India, is very much feasible.

Originality/value

Previous studies analysed IoT and CC factors using different multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods to merely prioritise ranking in the building sector, but forecasting success/failure makes this study unique. This research is generally applicable, and its findings may be utilised for decision-making and deployment of IoT and CC in the building sector anywhere globally.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to study the peristaltic mechanism of Sutterby fluid in a symmetric channel with mass and heat transfer.

Design/methodology/approach

Mass and heat transfer are investigated in the assumption of Reynolds number and the long wavelength. The velocity, temperature and concentration terms for small values of Sutterby fluid parameter are achieved.

Findings

Graphical results have been introduced for various important parameters. The effects of emerging key parameters are also highlighted.

Originality/value

Sutterby fluid model is one that represents the high polymer aqueous solutions. It is now strongly believed that any diseased part of the body would be cured better when exposed to magnetic force when compared with a drug. Peristalsis with mass and heat transfer occurs in treatment to destroy the unwanted tissues, hemodialysis and oxygenation process, etc.

Abstract

Purpose

This study was aimed to develop and evaluate nutritional efficacy and bio-efficacy of food products from plantain, soycake, rice-bran and oat-bran flour.

Design/methodology/approach

The flour samples were blended as follows: plantain 70% and soycake 30% (PS); plantain 65%, soycake 30% and rice bran 5% (PSR); plantain 65%, soycake 30% and oat bran 5% (PSO); and plantain 60%, soycake 30%, rice bran 5% and oat bran 5% (PSRO). Antioxidant and nutritional properties of the blended foods and controls (100% plantain and Cerolina) were determined.

Findings

Protein (16.2–19.4 g/100g) and biological values (98.5–99.3%) of the food samples were significantly (p = 0.03) higher than 100% plantain (5 g/100g, 31.6%) and Cerolina (17.9 g/100g, 98.3%). Pack cell volume (36.2–42%), serum protein (7.3–9.3 mg/dL), urea/creatinine (1.1–2.8) and aspartate-aminotransferase/alanine-aminotransferase ratio (0.9–1) of the foods were significantly (p = 0.03, 0.01, 0.02 and <0.01, respectively) higher than 100% plantain (28%, 1.6 mg/dL, 4.6 and 0.8) and Cerolina (46%, 4.9 mg/dL, 3 and 0.73). In vivo antioxidant activity of the food samples decreased from PSRO to PSO, PSR and PS, respectively and were higher than control samples. Nutritional performance of formulated foods in rats was similar to that of Cerolina, but higher than in 100% plantain. Cerolina and 100% plantain were rated higher in overall acceptability than formulated foods; however, PSO was most preferred followed by PSRO for the formulated foods.

Originality/value

The study established that PSRO was rated best in terms of nutrition, growth performance and antioxidant activities. Hence, this food may be suitable as functional food to prevent malnutrition and oxidative stress.

Abstract

Purpose

As transferring biological fluid through an artery is nowadays a pivotal subject, the purpose of this paper is to study the mathematical model of hybrid nanofluid flow comprising pure blood as base fluid and TiO2 and Ag as nanoparticles through the porous channel, which can be an applicable model for drug delivery.

Design/methodology/approach

Both walls of the channel have different permeability, which enables the fluid to enter and exit, and variable height, which dilates and squeezes at the uniform rate. By taking advantage of the similarity transformation technique, governing equations have been converted into a system of the non-linear ordinary differential equation. This problem is solved numerically by utilizing BVP4C built-in function in MATLAB software to explore the impacts of pertinent parameters.

Findings

The plots of velocity and temperature profile, normal pressure distribution and wall shear stress, as well as Nusselt number for involved parameters, are presented and the logic and physical reasons beyond them are highlighted. It has been observed that the asymmetry of the channel, caused by different permeability at walls, affects the nature of flow significantly.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no one has ever attempted to study the flow through a deformable porous channel with blood as a base fluid and as hybrid nanoparticles to describe medical phenomena and treatment applications. Indeed, the achievements of this paper are purely original and the numerical results were never published by any researcher.
