Abstract
Purpose
The continuing development of digital technologies creates expanding opportunities for information transparency. Consumers use social media to provide online reviews that are focused on changing levels of consumer trust. This study examines the effect of perceived risk that prompts consumers to search for online reviews in the context of food safety.
Design/methodology/approach
Commitment-trust theory forms the theoretical lens to model changes in consumer trust resulting from online reviews. Consumer-based questionnaire surveys collected data to test the structural model, using structural equation modelling (SEM).
Findings
The findings show when consumers perceive high levels of risk, they use social media to obtain additional product-related information. The objective, unanimous, evidential and noticeable online reviews are perceived as informative to consumers. Perceived informativeness of positive online reviews is found to increase consumers trust and, in turn, increase their purchase intentions.
Originality/value
The findings contribute to the knowledge of online review-based trust literature and provide far-reaching implications for information system (IS)-practitioners in business.

Abstract
Purpose
A limited number of studies have aimed at understanding behavior towards animal welfare. However, there are indications that consumers make an important distinction between land animals and fish. As no studies have attempted to explain the factors that influence consumer behavior towards the welfare of fish, this study aims to explain the behavior using the value–belief–norm (VBN) model. In addition, we extend the model by using empathy as a factor influencing the formation of personal norms. This study argues that by adding empathy to the model, we will improve the ability of the VBN to explain moral behavior.
Design/methodology/approach
The study is based on survey data from 416 Norwegian consumers. A structural equation modeling analysis with latent constructs is used to test the hypotheses.
Findings
The findings validate the ability of the VBN model to explain consumer intention to buy products containing fish with better welfare. We also showed that empathy and beliefs strongly influence personal norms. The extended VBN model increased the explained variance of personal norm by 11,54%. Consumers with biospheric values are strongly likely to have empathetic feelings towards fish suffering and believe that fish can feel pain. However, consumers with hedonistic values are significantly negatively related to beliefs and empathy.
Practical implications
By understanding the role of empathy, companies can develop marketing strategies that appeal to consumers' values, empathy and beliefs and ultimately encourage them to make purchases that support fish welfare.
Originality/value
Practically, this study explores consumers' beliefs towards fish welfare and identifies consumers who are more likely to purchase products containing fish with better welfare based on their values.

Abstract
Purpose
This study investigates the relationship between responsible leadership (RL) and employee sustainable performance (ESP), utilizing the CSR theory as a theoretical framework. Furthermore, this study aims to examine the role of ethical climate as a potential mediator in the relationship between RL and ESP.
Design/methodology/approach
A sample of 415 employees from the healthcare sector of India was collected through a questionnaire-based survey by using the convenience sampling technique. The data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) with the help of SmartPLS 4.
Findings
The study's findings demonstrated a significant, positive association between RL and ESP [employee well-being (EWB) and employee performance (EP)]. Additionally, the findings show that ethical climate partially mediates the link between RL and ESP (EWB and EP).
Research limitations/implications
The generalizability of the study's data collection is limited because it is based on the responses of Indian healthcare sector employees to an online and offline survey. The authors propose that the healthcare industry implement an intensive leadership training program in light of the findings of this study, which will aid human resource (HR) managers in comprehending the significance of RL and fostering related behaviors, such as encouraging employees to maintain ethical behavior and positive attitudes.
Originality/value
To the authors' understanding, this study is among the earliest attempts to present an integrative model that examines the relationship between RL, ethical climate and ESP in the context of Indian healthcare employees, incorporating the theory of corporate social responsibility (CSR). Moreover, the novelty of this research study examines the relationship between RL and ESP, with an ethical climate serving as a mediator. The focus is specifically on employees working in the Indian healthcare sector.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to address existing gaps in the literature and theories by investigating the influence of responsible leadership traits on employees’ sustainable performance (E-SuPer) in the Malaysian service sector. Specifically, the authors focus on three key responsible leadership traits: relationship building, relational governance and sharing orientation. Additionally, the authors explore how these traits interact with leader-member exchange (LMX) and whether gender plays a role in this relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
A total of 235 usable responses were analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling. Multi-group analysis (MGA) was employed to examine the moderating impact of gender.
Findings
The results showed that both relationship building and relational governance significantly affect E-SuPer among organisations in the service industry. LMX was found to be a significant moderating condition influencing the association between responsible leaders’ sharing orientation and E-SuPer. Interestingly, the MGA results suggest that the effect on male employees was greater than on female employees across the relationships examined. The findings suggest that responsible leadership traits are essential for sustainable employee performance, but there is room for improvement in how these traits are perceived by female employees.
Social implications
The present study contributes to gender equality agenda, supports the sustainable development goals, adds to the growing body of knowledge on the relationship between responsible leadership traits and E-SuPer within one of the most important economic sectors in Malaysia and sheds lights on the moderating effect of LMX.
Originality/value
This study investigates how responsible leadership traits affect E-SuPer in the service industry, particularly among male and female employees. Moreover, this study is one of the early investigations into the significance of responsible leadership within Malaysian service sector and offers valuable information for industry actors to improve their management approaches.

Abstract
Purpose
This research empirically investigates how service employees' ratings of technology readiness (TRI), negative attitudes towards robots (NARS), Big Five personality traits (BFI) and emotional demands (ED) affect their willingness to work with service robots (WTW).
Design/methodology/approach
One set of data is collected from 410 service employees expected to work with service robots in Study 1. Another set of field data is collected from 102 employees working with service robots in Study 2. Hierarchical regression is used to test hypotheses about the impact of technology readiness, negative attitudes towards robots and Big Five personality traits on WTW. Additionally, the interactions of emotional demands in the workplace are analysed.
Findings
TRI-optimism and TRI-insecurity significantly affect WTW in Study 2 but are nonsignificant in Study 1. The impacts of NARS-emotions in interaction with robots and NARS-interaction with robots situations on WTW are significant in Study 1 but nonsignificant in Study 2. Moreover, BFI-neuroticism negatively affected WTW in Study 1, while these effects were nonsignificant in Study 2. Finally, emotional demands significantly interact with three of eleven dimensions of IVs in Study 1, but all interactions are nonsignificant in Study 2.
Practical implications
This research provides a guiding framework for service companies to screen employees expected to cowork with service robots, to enhance newly hired employees' WTW and to improve existing employees' WTW.
Originality/value
Integrating the characteristics of service employees, service robots and jobs into a theoretical framework, this research is the first to empirically examine the effects of service employees' several critical characteristics (technology readiness, negative attitudes towards robots and Big Five personality) on WTW and the moderation of job characteristics (emotional demands).

Purpose
This paper aims to explore the impact of ebullient supervision on thriving at work, and relational social capital to stimulate employee creativity in the hospitality industry.
Design/methodology/approach
Using a purposive sampling approach, data were collected from 391 subordinates and their immediate supervisors in the hospitality industry through a structured questionnaire. To analyze the data, partial least structural equation modeling approach was considered.
Findings
Results show that ebullient supervision is supportive in generating personal resources of thriving at work and relational social capital, which later shape employee creativity.
Practical implications
The empirical findings of this study provide valuable insights for managers in the hospitality industry for human resource development strategy formulation to stimulate creativity in the hospitality industry.
Originality/value
The findings of this study suggest a novel antecedent of ebullient supervision for stimulating creativity in the hospitality industry. Hence, the paper has implications for researchers, practitioners and students.

Purpose
The main objective of this study was to design a dynamic adaptive decision support model for healthcare organizations facing deep uncertainties by considering promising dynamic adaptive approaches. The main argument for this is that healthcare organizations have to make strategic decisions under deep uncertainty, but lack an approach to deal with this.
Design/methodology/approach
A Dynamic Adaptive Decision Support model (DADS) is designed using the Design Science Research methodology. The evaluation of an initial model leads, through two case studies on ongoing and strategic decision-making, to the final design of this needed model for healthcare organizations.
Findings
The research reveals the relevance of the designed dynamic and adaptive tool to support strategic decision-making for healthcare organizations. The final design of DADS innovates Decision Making under Deep Uncertainty (DMDU) approaches in an organizational context for ongoing and strategic decision-making.
Originality/value
The designed model applies the Dynamic Adaptive Policy Pathways approach in an organizational context and more specifically in health care organizations. It further integrates Corporate Real Estate Management knowledge and experience to develop a most needed tool for decision-makers in healthcare. This is the first DADS designed for an organization facing deep uncertainties in a rapidly changing healthcare environment and dealing with ongoing and strategic decision-making.

Abstract
Purpose
Through the use of the Markov Decision Model (MDM) approach, this study uncovers significant variations in the availability of machines in both faulty and ideal situations in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The first-order differential equations are used to construct the mathematical equations from the transition-state diagrams of the separate subsystems in the critical part manufacturing plant.
Design/methodology/approach
To obtain the lowest investment cost, one of the non-traditional optimization strategies is employed in maintenance operations in SMEs in this research. It will use the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm to optimize machine maintenance parameters and find the best solutions, thereby introducing the best decision-making process for optimal maintenance and service operations.
Findings
The major goal of this study is to identify critical subsystems in manufacturing plants and to use an optimal decision-making process to adopt the best maintenance management system in the industry. The optimal findings of this proposed method demonstrate that in problematic conditions, the availability of SME machines can be enhanced by up to 73.25%, while in an ideal situation, the system's availability can be increased by up to 76.17%.
Originality/value
The proposed new optimal decision-support system for this preventive maintenance management in SMEs is based on these findings, and it aims to achieve maximum productivity with the least amount of expenditure in maintenance and service through an optimal planning and scheduling process.

Abstract
Purpose
Drawing on conservation of resources theory, this study aims to develop a resource-based model depicting a decreased level of psychological resourcefulness – relational energy, as a novel explanatory mechanism that accounts for the harm of abusive supervision, and we further investigate the role of leader humor as a boundary condition.
Design/methodology/approach
We applied multilevel path analysis to test our hypotheses with three-time-point survey data collected from 226 supervisor-employee dyads in a telecommunication company in China across six months.
Findings
Our results show that abusive supervision is negatively related to employee relational energy, leading to a subsequent decline in employee job performance. The predictions of the depleting effects get alleviated by leader humor.
Practical implications
This study foregrounds the importance of employee relationship management in the workplace and reveals that some abusive supervisors may manage to sustain employee performance and relational energy by using humor in their interactions, which necessitates immediate intervention.
Originality/value
These findings offer novel insights into the deleterious impact of abusive supervision by demonstrating the critical role of relational energy in dyadic interactions. We also reveal the potential dark side of leader humor in the context of abuse in the workplace.

Abstract
Purpose
Food waste in the hospitality sector has emerged as a global concern. Various technology-driven online food services such as the food delivery apps (FDA) contribute to hospitality food waste. FDA users might behave irresponsibly by ordering more foods than required which may lead to food waste generation. To date, limited studies have been attempted to understand how consumers’ over-ordering behavior through FDA result in hospitality food waste.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors used partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to analyze survey data from 248 FDA users.
Findings
The results indicated that perceived convenience and trust positively influence consumers' attitude toward FDA, which in turn promotes over-ordering behavior. Interestingly, the anticipated positive relationship between price advantage and attitude toward FDA was not supported by the data. Furthermore, the authors confirmed that over-ordering behavior contributes to food waste, an outcome that has crucial implications for both the hospitality sector and sustainability efforts.
Originality/value
The current study employs the stimulus-organism-behavior-consequence (SOBC) theory to investigate the catalysts and consequences of over-ordering behavior via FDA. This study thus highlights the importance of the SOBC model in understanding consumer behavior.
