Abstract
Purpose
In this chapter, we apply diffusion of innovation theory and the theory of management fashion to examine the diffusion trajectory of human resource (HR) analytics in a U.S. context. We focus on the role mass media plays in influencing the diffusion process and address two research questions. First, does the mass media on HR analytics make observable the positive outcomes of HR analytics and is this related to increasing HR analytics adoption over time? Second, does the mass media on HR analytics show evidence of management trendsetting rhetoric?
Methodology/approach
We analyze published popular trade, business press, and peer-reviewed academic articles over a decade using a big data discourse analytical technique, natural language processing.
Findings
We find preliminary evidence that suggests that although the media has broadcasted positive outcomes of HR analytics, adoption has tailed off. In concert with the tailing off of HR analytic adoptions, the media appears to be recasting HR analytics as solving newer problems such as managing talent. Whether this shift makes a difference has yet to be determined.
Practical implications
Business press appears to influence the adoption process, both by broadcasting positive outcomes and through creating management fashion trendsetting rhetoric.
Social implications
To promote the use of HR analytics, academic institutions and the HR profession need to train HR professionals in the use and benefits of HR analytics.
Originality/value
We lay the groundwork to improve our understanding of the role media plays in influencing how new HRM practices spread across organizations. We introduce the application of an emerging big data analytic technique, natural language processing, to analyze published media on HR analytics.

Abstract
Purpose
The study aims to explore the digital fashion trend within the Metaverse, characterized by non-fungible tokens (NFTs), across Twitter networks. Integrating theories of diffusion of innovation, two-step flow of communication and self-efficacy, the authors aimed to uncover the diffusion structure and the influencer's social roles undertaken by social entities in fostering communication and collaboration for the advancement of Metaverse fashion.
Design/methodology/approach
Social network analysis examined the critical graph metrics to profile, visualize, and cluster the unstructured network data. The authors used the NodeXL program to analyze two hashtag keyword networks, “#metaverse fashion” and “#metawear,” using Twitter API data. Cluster, semantic, and time series analyses were performed to visualize the contents and contexts of communication and collaboration in the diffusion of Metaverse fashion.
Findings
The results unraveled the “broadcast network” structure and the influencers' social roles of opinion leaders and market mavens within Twitter's “#metaverse fashion” diffusion. The roles of innovators and early adopters among influencers were comparable in collaborating within the competition venues, promoting awareness and participation in digital fashion diffusion during specific “fad” periods, particularly when digital fashion NFTs and cryptocurrencies became intertwined with the competition in the Metaverse.
Originality/value
The study contributed to theory building by integrating three theories, emphasizing effective communication and collaboration among influencers, organizations, and competition venues in broadcasting digital fashion within shared networks. The validation of multi-faceted Social Network Analysis was crucial for timely insights, highlighting the critical digital fashion equity in capturing consumers' attention and driving engagement and ownership of Metaverse fashion.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study the propagation of Rayleigh waves in thermoelastic medium with mass diffusion.
Design/methodology/approach
The field equations for the linear theory of homogeneous isotropic thermoelastic diffusion medium are taken into consideration by using dual-phase-lag heat transfer (DPLT) and dual-phase-lag diffusion (DPLD) models. Using the potential functions and harmonic wave solution, three coupled dilatational waves and a shear wave is obtained. After developing mathematical formulation, the dispersion equation is obtained, which results to be complex and irrational. This equation is converted into a polynomial form of higher degree.
Findings
From the polynomial equation, Rayleigh wave root is found. The secular equation is resolved into a polynomial form to find the roots and therefore to find the existence and propagation of Rayleigh wave. The existence of Rayleigh wave in the assumed model depends on the values of various parameters involved in the secular equation. These roots are resolved for phase velocity and attenuation of the inhomogeneous propagation of Rayleigh wave. Behavior of particle motion of these waves inside and at the surface of the thermoelastic medium with mass diffusion is studied. Particular cases of the interest are also deduced from the present investigation.
Originality/value
Governing equations corresponding to DPLT and DPLD models of thermoelastic diffusion are formulated to study the wave propagation and their dependence on various material parameters. In this paper effects of thermal and diffusion phase lags on the phase velocity, attenuation and on particle paths are observed and depicted graphically.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to depict the effect of thermal and diffusion phase-lags on plane waves propagating in thermoelastic diffusion medium with different material symmetry. A generalized form of mass diffusion equation is introduced instead of classical Fick's diffusion theory by using two diffusion phase-lags, one phase-lag of diffusing mass flux vector, represents the delayed time required for the diffusion of the mass flux and the other phase-lag of chemical potential, represents the delayed time required for the establishment of the potential gradient. The basic equations for the anisotropic thermoelastic diffusion medium in the context of dual-phase-lag heat transfer (DPLT) and dual-phase-lag diffusion (DPLD) models are presented. The governing equations for transversely isotropic and isotropic case are also reduced. The different characteristics of waves like phase velocity, attenuation coefficient, specific loss and penetration depth are computed numerically. Numerically computed results are depicted graphically for anisotropic, transversely isotropic and isotropic medium. The effect of diffusion and thermal phase-lags are shown on the different characteristic of waves. Some particular cases of result are also deduced from the present investigation.
Design/methodology/approach
The governing equations of thermoelastic diffusion are presented using DPLT model and a new model of DPLD. Effect of phase-lags of thermal and diffusion is presented on different characteristic of waves.
Findings
The effect of diffusion and thermal phase-lags on the different characteristic of waves is appreciable. Also the use of diffusion phase-lags in the equation of mass diffusion gives a more realistic model of thermoelastic diffusion media as it allows a delayed response between the relative mass flux vector and the potential gradient.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to undertake research on the relationship of firm heterogeneity and innovation diffusion performance, and the role of absorptive capacity in this relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the diffusion of innovation theory, enterprise heterogeneity directly affects the evaluation stage (considering whether to adopt it) and the experimental stage (observing whether it is suitable for one’s own situation) of the diffusion process. Therefore, the paper uses a structural equation model to construct the influencing factors model of enterprise heterogeneity on technology diffusion. Furthermore, questionnaires were distributed to 236 enterprises with different scales, nature and location to explore the impact of heterogeneity on technology diffusion with scientific, objective and comprehensive data.
Findings
Firm heterogeneity has a positive effect on absorptive capacity and absorptive capacity has a positive effect on technological innovation diffusion performance. Thus, absorptive capacity plays an intermediary role in the effect on enterprise heterogeneity and technological innovation diffusion performance. More interestingly, the authors get some results that are not entirely consistent with the theoretical assumptions.
Practical implications
Firm heterogeneity plays a central role in the process of innovation diffusion. Enterprises should build internal management platforms to enhance cooperation among employees, and establish links with other enterprises for opportunities for win-win cooperation. In addition, enterprises should control the frequency of internal activities, which will undermine the enthusiasm of enterprise members to participate in technology sharing.
Originality/value
This paper explores the interaction between technology potential, cooperation frequency and absorptive capacity from the perspective of systems theory. The findings enrich the theory of innovation diffusion, and explore the inherent reasons why enterprise heterogeneity affects innovation diffusion. Furthermore, the theory that intra-firm cooperation promotes innovation diffusion is not always correct.

Abstract
Purpose
In view of the particularity of innovative product diffusion under the background of market competition, this paper firstly uses consumer behavior theory to logically deduce the dynamic process of consumer behavior from the perspective of experience theory.
Design/methodology/approach
Bass and Lotka-Volterra model are used to describe and model the consumers' perceptual behavior in competitive environment. On this basis, interactive modeling technology is used to model and simulate the diffusion process of innovative products. Finally, the validity of the model is verified by comparing two scenarios with an example.
Findings
The research shows that the stronger the enterprise's competitiveness, the higher the market share of innovative products, and the positive impact on consumer perceived value, consumer perceived value can promote consumers' second purchase behavior. Positive word-of-mouth and advertising positively affect consumers' purchasing decisions; negative word-of-mouth negatively affects consumers' purchasing decisions.
Originality/value
The interaction modeling technology and AnyLogic software platform are used to simulate the complexity of consumers' experiential perception so as to build the interaction and competition mechanism among different Agent, which realizes the dynamic simulation of the diffusion process of innovative products. This study provides guidance for enterprises to formulate effective marketing strategies.

Purpose
Although studies have investigated reasons for software as a service (SaaS) adoption, it is unclear how firm-level SaaS use impacts future SaaS intentions. The purpose of this paper is to propose a theoretical model that integrates the technology-organization-environment framework, institutional theory, diffusion-of-innovation theory and the opportunity-risk framework to analyze the drivers of SaaS use and its continuance intention.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors evaluated the direct, moderating and mediating effects of determinants on SaaS continuance intentions using structural equation modeling and data from 301 firms.
Findings
Results found that top management support and normative pressures influenced SaaS use. Cost saving and security concerns were direct predictors of perceived opportunities and perceived risks, respectively. Perceived opportunities and risks and actual SaaS use influenced SaaS continuance. Interestingly, perceived opportunities were found to be a negative moderator on the relationship between SaaS use and SaaS continuance.
Originality/value
The results reveal insightful and controversial findings for SaaS research.

Abstract
Purpose
This research seeks to extend our understanding of how community information networks (CINs) are used by public libraries in New Zealand, and to assess key factors in adoption of the internet for CINs. It also aims to explore the application of a particular theory to the diffusion of CINs in one particular library through internet connectivity and, through this theory (diffusion of innovation), to assess the conditions which make these networks feasible.
Design/methodology/approach
Face‐to‐face interviews were conducted with five key CIN staff of one NZ public library as a means of gathering data on the perceptions, motivation and attitudes of those directly involved in developing and managing the CIN. From the data gathered, the research has analysed the potential influences on the adoption of CINs, including the attributes of innovation in public libraries. This is based on the attributes of an innovation in Rogers’ theory of diffusion of innovation.
Findings
The research findings are summarised from staff discussions during the interviews, including research propositions related to the first research question, i.e. “can Rogers' diffusion of innovation model be applied to the diffusion of CINs in public libraries”, and findings from staff interviews related to the second research question – “What are major attributes that have affected CIN adoption in the case study library?”
Research limitations/implications
Some attributes based on Rogers' theory were positive, while a few others were not clearly perceived by practitioners, and this needs to be addressed by more careful distinctions being made between the categories in any future research.
Originality/value
This research provides knowledge in developing community information services for librarians, students, and researchers, and anyone else interested in this issue. Additionally, it can serve as a model of using the theory of diffusion of innovation.

Purpose
The diffusion of management accounting innovations (MAIs) is the focus of much debate in the management accounting research community. Extant contributions have drawn on a large of number of theories, including innovation diffusion theory and various sociologically inspired theories such as management fashion. The purpose of this paper is to examine and develop Røvik’s virus theory in the context of how MAIs diffuse. The paper further evaluates and elaborates on the potential usefulness of the virus perspective to empirical research on MAIs.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper uses a conceptual and explorative research approach. The paper introduces the virus perspective and compares this perspective with several other theoretical perspectives often used in studies of the diffusion of MAIs. This enables the identification of characteristics specific to the virus perspective. The paper also re-examines a number of prior studies of MAIs and identifies different virus characteristics implicit in these studies.
Findings
The findings of the paper imply that the virus perspective is a useful basis for empirical research on MAIs. The virus perspective differs from other theoretical perspectives in several respects and is particularly suited for longitudinal studies of both MAIs and organizational change. However, the perspective could be used at other levels of analysis as well. The extant studies reviewed in this paper provide support for the viral characteristics of MAIs. The paper also identifies and discusses avenues for future research using the virus perspective as a theoretical lens.
Originality/value
The virus perspective has been given little attention in research on MAIs, as well as more generally within accounting research. This research paper demonstrates that the virus perspective offers a rich and valuable conceptual framework for studying how demand-side organizations are affected by MAIs over extensive periods of time. The paper also discusses the implications of the virus perspective with respect to the research method.

The purpose of this research is to study the reflection and transmission of elastic waves at the interface of an elastic half‐space and initially stressed thermoelastic diffusion with voids half‐space.
Design/methodology/approach
Two‐dimensional model has been considered of an isotropic elastic half‐space (Medium I) lying over a homogeneous isotropic generalized initially stressed thermoelastic diffusion with voids half‐space (Medium II). There exist two waves, P‐wave and SV‐wave, in isotropic elastic half‐space and four quasi‐longitudinal waves, namely, quasi‐longitudinal wave (QP‐mode), quasi‐longitudinal mass diffusive wave (QMD‐mode), quasi‐longitudinal thermal wave (QPT‐mode) and quasi‐longitudinal volume fractional wave (QPV‐mode), and one quasi‐transverse wave (QSV‐mode) exists in initially stressed thermoelastic diffusion with voids half‐space.
Findings
The energy ratios of these waves are computed along various directions of incident wave, and it is found that the sum of all energy ratios is exactly unity at each value of incident angle. The amplitude ratios of various waves have been obtained numerically.
Originality/value
Reflection and transmission of an elastic medium is of great practical importance. Since valuable organic and inorganic deposits beneath the earth surface are difficult to detect by drilling randomly, wave propagation is the simplest and most economic technique for these and does not require any drilling through the earth. Almost all the oil companies rely on seismic interpretation for selecting the sites for exploratory oil wells because seismic wave methods have higher accuracy, have higher resolution and are more economical, as compared to drilling which is expansive and time consuming.
