Abstract

This chapter is a study of the impact of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues on credit rating in India. It will help issuers, investors, and other market participants understand rating agencies' approach to incorporating the sustainability-related factors in its analysis. This will provide an overall perspective on the considerations that are usually the most important. Under environment considerations, climate change, waste recycling, air pollutants, and natural capital sustainability can be important factors. Social considerations are becoming more and more important among investors and consumers and are raising awareness about prosperous and failing communities. Moreover, COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the need for redirecting capital flows toward sustainable activities, making our economy and society more resilient against shocks. Governance factors primarily involve the corporate governance practices prevalent in the entity reflecting the different rights and responsibilities among its different stakeholders management, board of directors, employees, lenders, shareholders, customers, and suppliers. It also encompasses the corporate's business conduct and practices related to transparency and disclosure. This chapter will focus on the contemporary issues of including ESG in credit rating and what are the probable impacts of doing the same.

With favorable rating, companies can access international debt market easily. Moreover a favorable sovereign rating is beneficial for the overall economy of a country as better rating enables the government of the country to access the international debt market. Even capital allocation by foreign institutional investors increases which is beneficial for the equity market too.

Abstract

This chapter examines the impact of macroeconomic factors on the financial performance of Chinese companies. Using multiple regression analysis, the study finds that gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate, inflation rate, interest rate, exchange rate, and government expenditure are significant predictors of the financial performance of Chinese companies. The results show that GDP growth rate, leverage, size, liquidity, profitability, and growth in sales all have significant positive impacts on financial performance, while growth in assets has a negative impact. The study provides insights into the impact of macroeconomic factors on the financial performance of Chinese companies. Policymakers and investors should take these findings into account when making decisions about economic policies and investments, and companies operating in China should be aware of the potential impact of these factors on their financial performance and look for ways to manage them effectively. The chapter also includes a model specification test and a robustness test to validate the accuracy of the results. The findings have important guiding significance for policy makers and investors in making economic policies and investment decisions. However, the study has limitations such as the use of horizontal panel data and the limited data sources used.

Introduction: Commercial banks play a vital role in the global economy, facilitating economic growth and providing essential financial services. As key intermediaries between savers and borrowers, these institutions operate in a dynamic and complex environment characterised by various risk factors that can significantly impact their profitability and overall stability. Understanding the interconnected relationships between credit risk, interest rate risk, liquidity risk, and profitability is crucial for effective risk management strategies and the development of appropriate regulatory frameworks.

Purpose: Commercial banks play a critical role in the global economy by facilitating economic growth and providing financial services. This study examines the interconnected relationships between credit risk, interest rate risk, liquidity risk, and profitability in commercial banking.

Methodology: The sample consists of licenced scheduled commercial banks on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) from 2015 to 2022. Using the Smart PLS-SEM 3.0 path analysis technique, the study evaluates the combined influence of these risk factors on profitability and provides evidence-based recommendations for risk management strategies.

Findings: The findings can assist banks in enhancing their risk management practices, and regulators in developing appropriate regulatory frameworks. By understanding the key risk factors and their impact on profitability, banks and regulators can mitigate risks, enhance transparency, and promote stability within the banking sector.

Significance/value: The value of this study lies in its focus on the interconnectedness of risk factors, profitability, and the potential implications for decision-making, risk management strategies, regulatory frameworks, and the overall stability of the commercial banking sector.

Navigating the impact of these challenges is essential for adapting and thriving in a post-pandemic world; therefore, it is important to identify VUCA factors.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify and analyse the VUCA factors that emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on sectors such as hospitality, tourism, education, construction, manufacturing, Information Technology, healthcare, and automobiles.

Need for the Study: Analysing emerging VUCA factors is crucial for businesses to prepare for unforeseen events. While VUCA factors were previously studied during significant events like the Greater Recession, BREXIT, and demonetisation, the pandemic has presented unprecedented challenges, making the identification of emerging VUCA components crucial.

Methodology: The methodology involves reviewing articles and research papers to understand the pandemic’s impact on various sectors. The findings provide insights into prominent VUCA factors and their implications for businesses, contributing to existing knowledge.

Abstract

This is an acceptable fact that firms put efforts to maximize shareholders wealth but there is growing demand that firms are also accountable to various stakeholders associated directly or indirectly with the firms' business activities. Investors now evaluate firm's performance not only from financial perspective but also consider environment, social, and governance (ESG) factors when taking investment decision. ESG is not visible in firm's annual financial reports but investors do not deny its significance when valuing firms. There are increasing interests in ESG by communities, professionals, and government bodies, and all are interested to keep it as part of firms' regular activity and have to relate it with firm performance and efficiency that affects firm value. Still, there are difficulties in integration of ESG factors into investment decision-making, but efforts are being put to overcome all the issues. Firms which consider ESG are in a good position to achieve their long-term financial goals as they are likely to attract capital, lower borrowing costs, mitigate risks, and maximize shareholders value.

Consequently, strategy has become a central aspect of sustainable leadership and the foundation for implementing strategic management in a dynamic system of relationships. Every company is born and grows within social and economic ecosystems. Drawing on the metaphor of biology, ecosystems are described as dynamic interconnections among various elements that influence and foster entrepreneurship. Introduction: The concept of diversity encompasses not only an individual’s self-perceptions but also perceptions of others. It exerts an influence on individuals’ social interactions. The promotion of workforce diversity within an organisation holds considerable importance for several reasons. These include the impact of globalisation, the amalgamation of ideas stemming from diverse ethnic groups, the inclusive progress facilitated by individuals from varying economic and religious backgrounds, and the unique perspectives brought to work by those hailing from different regions of the country.

Purpose: Literature exhibits that the perception of organisational justice is a crucial factor in elucidating the dynamic between subordinates and their supervisors, and its consequential effect on the long-term viability of the enterprise.

Methodology: The research reports responses from 107 Delhi NCR employees. Before the main investigation, a pilot study with 20 employees was conducted for assessing the scale’s reliability and validity.

Findings: The current study has provided evidence indicating that different dimensions of organisational justice have a significant impact on individual work behaviour, specifically task performance behaviour (TP), employee silence (ES), and organisational counterproductive behaviour (CBP). Moreover, this impact is influenced by several factors, including emotional intelligence (EI), social desirability, and the age of employees.

Abstract

This chapter investigates the potential of integrating multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques with decision support systems of digital supply chain management (DSCM) to achieve optimal outcomes. Digital supply chain (DSC) employs digital technologies (DTs) such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and big data analytics to provide extensive datasets and valuable insights pertaining to supply chain operations. MCDM techniques employ these realizations to facilitate informed decision-making through the assessment of multiple competing criteria. Usually MCDM approaches are used in the academic research with comparatively lesser application in industry. We argue that MCDM methodologies can play an instrumental role in DSCM, specifically in the areas of supplier selection, demand forecasting, and inventory management. Nevertheless, the integration of MCDM like AHP, ANP, DEMATEL, etc., with decision support systems presents several challenges, including concerns regarding the quality of data and the intricate task of assigning weights to various factors.
