Abstract

This chapter advances our understanding of vulnerable consumers by exploring new relationships between resource scarcity and consumer decision-making. Although resource scarcity often prompts individuals to pull back on spending, recent research has shown that it can also increase consumers' motivation to engage in behaviors that fulfill their need for personal control. We extend this stream of research by offering the novel proposition that because resource scarcity motivates the desire for control, activating thoughts about scarcity will increase consumers' interest in products offering self-improvement benefits. We offer initial empirical evidence for when resource scarcity causes consumers to forgo their desire to save by increasing their willingness to pay for products that offer self-improvement benefits. In doing so, this chapter (i) highlights resource scarcity, a state of vulnerability, as an antecedent to the desire for self-improvement, (ii) provides a more nuanced perspective on the motivational underpinnings of resource scarcity and its effects on consumption, and (iii) sheds light on when resource scarcity can increase rather than decrease consumer spending.

Abstract

Purpose: This study explores the growing significance of environmentalism and sustainability in the contemporary business landscape. Focussing on aligning industries with evolving consumer expectations, the research seeks to understand the awareness surrounding environmental conservation, sustainable development, and the adoption of an environmentally conscious lifestyle.

Need for the study: With environmental consciousness on the rise, understanding the initiatives taken by organisations and the utilisation of digital platforms for environmental advocacy becomes crucial. The study addresses the need to unwind the cultural shift towards sustainability and assess the effectiveness of green marketing practices in the digital age.

Methodology: A triangulation approach is employed, integrating secondary data from literature research with information from company reports and databases. The literature survey provides extensive insights into green marketing practices, forming the basis for an in-depth analysis. The comparative analysis and integration of findings from both sources aim to draw a comprehensive picture, identifying areas of agreement and disagreement.

Findings: The study provides robust evidence supporting the effectiveness of green marketing practices in the digital age. Convergence between academic literature and real-world corporate practices underscores the consistency in approaches adopted by companies in leveraging digital technology to advance environmental sustainability.

Practical implications: The findings suggest that theory and practice converge on various aspects of green marketing, indicating its profound impact on culture, behaviours, and strategies. This research informs businesses and policymakers about the tangible benefits and shared responsibility of incorporating green practices in corporate strategies, fostering a sustainable future.

The author presents the meat of the most common species consumed in Europe and their role in nutrition. The work focuses on the meat of mammals and birds; it does not deal with the importance of protein sources from other taxonomic categories. European meat consumption habits and consumer preferences are presented, taking into account religious, cultural and geographical differences. It examines the possibility of influencing and changing consumer behavior based on consumer opinions. It separately examines the reasons for the less preference of meat or the complete rejection of meat consumption among consumers. This chapter also points out the demographic effects, lifestyle changes and the economic effects of income conditions. It presents examples of the role of government propaganda and the marketing activities of producers or processors in encouraging consumption.

Abstract

This chapter deals with the principal features of the International Code of Direct Selling 2013 prepared by the International Chamber of Commerce on Marketing and Advertising. Having identified the Basic Principles of Direct Selling and the Ideal Conduct towards Consumers, this Code also details the conduct which should be shown towards direct sellers; in addition to their responsibility to and in the event of any breach thereof, the responsibility to be discharged by the direct sellers. That is why this Code of Conduct provides for special training for familiarisation of the important provisions of this Code. This Code intends to achieve a number of objectives, namely (a) the importance of responsibility and good practice in direct selling in any jurisdiction; (b) to respect consumer preferences and privacy and the need for consumer protection – as the days of caveat emptor are over – the onus of consumer protection has been passed on to the sellers of products and services; and (c) direct selling should be done with social and professional responsibilities.

Innovation in service, procedure and product design is essential for long-term success in today's fast-paced and cutthroat hospitality sector. This study aims to learn how innovation may revolutionise the hospitality sector and lead to memorable guest experiences.

The research delves into new ways of thinking about service design, emphasizing how to create engaging and individual customer experiences (CXs). In order to stand out in a crowded hospitality market and keep up with customers' ever-changing demands, businesses in the industry are experimenting with new approaches to service, like co-creation, personalisation and experience design.

The study also digs into process innovation in the hotel industry, looking at how the latest tech and automation are helping to streamline processes and boost productivity. Reservation systems, guest check-in and check-out, cleaning and supply chain management are just a few areas that get studied. The study delves into how thoughtful product design may enrich visitors' hotel stays. It explores new and interesting services like in-room entertainment, eco-friendly building techniques and creative cuisine. Abstract

Consumers by and large today look for economic growth and benefits without compromising on socio-environmental well-being. Having said that, it is imperative to note that consumers' consciousness may not essentially lead to sustainable purchases. This chapter aims to examine the role of both sustainable purchase intention and post-purchase dissonance in the relationship between consumers' sustainability consciousness and consumers' evangelism. With the increased role of social media pervading our lives, trusted sources' recommendations play a significant role in co-creating products. Thus, research on consumers' evangelism (especially sustainability-conscious consumers) would help marketers develop successful strategies. This study expands to the extant literature on sustainability-conscious consumers vis-a-vis consumer evangelism. We collected responses from 227 respondents to examine hypotheses, by means of structural equation modelling (SEM). The study indicates sustainable purchase intention does mediate the relationship between sustainability-conscious consumers and consumer evangelism. On the other hand, we also note that post-purchase dissonance is not a significant moderating construct between sustainability-conscious consumers and consumer evangelism.

The utilization of mobile fitness applications (apps) is on the rise, making user retention and engagement critical factors in the commercial success of these apps. However, research in this area is limited and fragmented. The objective of this study is to conduct a thorough review of the available literature on the effects of digital innovations, gamification, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) on user engagement with fitness mobile apps. The findings reveal the relationships between gamification, the use of AI/ML and technology adoption on user engagement, interaction and intent to use. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of understanding how user experience, customer experience and brand experience impact customer retention and contribute to the overall success of mobile fitness apps. Furthermore, the study also identifies the gaps in the current research and recommends further studies to be conducted in these areas. Future research is encouraged to incorporate elements from the experience domains to provide consumers with engaging interactions and improve retention and commercial success for mobile fitness apps.

This chapter examines the ICC Advertising and Marketing Communications Code of 2018. The primary themes of this Code are advertising and marketing communications. This is a lengthy Code – in addition to an Introduction, it has been developed over four chapters and two annexes. The ‘technologically enhanced’ marketing communications seem to have prompted the International Chamber of Commerce to draft this Code of Conduct.

This Code emphasised the self-regulatory Codes of Conduct in the hope that self-regulatory codes of conduct should convince customers of their social responsibility. This Code also believes that high sense of social responsibility will achieve the principal purpose of it. This Code should be more useful if the member States take it seriously and implement its provisions in their own interests.

As the hospitality business adapts to the digital age, the importance of using Virtual Design (VD) to create memorable visitor experiences has grown. This study aims to investigate the potential of VD in the hospitality sector, particularly regarding the improvement of guests' overall experiences.

The research study examines how Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and other digital technologies are currently used in VD firms. It explores how these simulated architectural features are implemented in other facets of the hospitality experience, like the decor of guest rooms and restaurants and staff responsiveness to guests' needs.

The study also examines VD's potential outcomes and advantages for the hotel industry and its clients. It investigates the potential of VD to help hospitality businesses offer more customised services, boost customer loyalty and gain an edge in the market. VD implementation in the hospitality business may face several obstacles, some of which are discussed in this study.

Methods include both qualitative and quantitative techniques, such as interviews with experts, guest surveys and an examination of the use of VD in specific hotels. This study intends to help the hotel industry benefit from a VD by analysing real-world case studies and gathering empirical data that can be used to draw conclusions and formulate recommendations.
