Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to identify what lifestyles best explain and impact ecological behavior among young Indian consumers.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper adapts the lifestyle scale developed by He et al. (2010) and the Actual Commitment scale to the Indian context to describe its impact on the young consumer’s ecological profile. The study is based on an extensive literature review. The data were obtained from a questionnaire handed out to a sample of 250 students. With the information obtained, and after the scale validation process, a structural equation analysis has been conducted.
Findings
Findings of the study highlight that environmental patterns and lifestyle factors are those that best characterize the ecological market segment. This group of young consumers is characterized by their self-identity and a feeling of uniqueness. They are people who always try to improve themselves and take actions which pose a new challenge for them. They are also characterized by having an ecological lifestyle, selecting and recycling products and taking part in events to protect the environment. This type of consumer is a present and future investment for firms that are committed to the environment.
Originality/value
The results of this study might interest consumer behavior researchers and those firms that care about the ecological consumers. Moreover, previous studies have not dealt with young consumers. Further research is needed including new psychographic variables.

Abstract
This paper considers the scientific development of business education on the basis of five criteria: if‐then statements, freedom from values, spatial and temporal validity, objectivity, and falsifiability. Methodologically, the emphasis is placed on emerging scientific and societal trends which influence scientific research and the paper is aimed primarily at academics. The paper also has an implicit politico‐scientific theme. Considering the multiplicity of approaches in management education, any attempt to take an overall perspective is likely to be controversial. Specific themes include the interdependence problem, uncertainty, dynamics, the development of various theoretical paradigms and trends such as globalisation and ecological consciousness. The context of analysis and discussion is predominantly that of German management theory and, in this sense, the paper provides a different perspective from that of other English‐language contributions in the area.

This confusion has several important repercussions ultimately resulting into a slow diffusion and limited success of the late introduced differentiated products in the marketplace. This study attempts to explain the problem using data regarding organic food products. The repercussions of the problem are also assessed.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to focus on ecological consumption and test the effect of social value orientation on ecological consumption. What is more, this paper explores how Chinese consumers choose between prosocial and non-prosocial products under the influence of Chinese face culture.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors assume that social value orientation will change individual’s ecological consumption through the in-group identification, and simultaneously predict that the influence in pro-self and pro-social consumer groups will vary. Furthermore, Chinese face consciousness will moderate the relationship between ecological consumption and social value orientation. Online research and intercept survey are employed to collect data. In total, 600 questionnaires were distributed.
Findings
The results indicate that pro-social individuals prefer sustainable consumption than pro-self-individuals, and in-group identification mediates the effect of social value orientation on ecological consumption. Interestingly, pro-self-individuals’ behaviors have changed dramatically by the influence of face consciousness.
Originality/value
The authors discovered that social value orientation has a deep impact on ecological consumption through in-group identification. The authors tested and verified the dominance of Chinese face culture. Besides, four key elements of China’s “face” construct are proposed, namely, holism, synergy, synchronicity and dynamics, which enlarge the horizon of the theory of face.

Abstract
Purpose
Pursue Gregory Bateson’s observation that human consciousness as we see it today is tightly focussed on finding and pursuing purposes. Taken too far, the wider world of nature suffers from imbalance. The paper aims to discuss this issue.
Design/methodology/approach
Bateson’s cybernetic speculation suggests that strategies to avoid ecological catastrophe need to take human consciousness into account. The author searches for cases of consciousness better aligned with reality and consider current possibilities for developing such consciousness.
Findings
Findings from the literature of philosophical anthropology are reviewed, showing that consciousness that is better aligned with reality has occurred in history, including with the San Bushmen and in the Greek polis. Yet these cases are rare and quite different from today’s culture. In addition, there are several distinct features of current culture that prevent the development of aligned consciousness.
Originality/value
Philosophical anthropology is outside the normal constraints of social science but points in the direction of further holistic cybernetics inquiry that can produce a different diagnosis and strategy for the global ecological challenge.

Purpose
The paper attempts to investigate the term “environmental consciousness” and identify the underlying components of environmental consciousness and its antecedents. Also, to propose the framework explaining the linkage between environmental consciousness, its antecedents, components, and behavioral outcome, and also the variables, if any, that may intervene between environmental consciousness and environmentally conscious consumer behavior.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper reviews extant literature to bring conceptual clarity to the term environmental consciousness and its linkages with the related variables.
Findings
Environmental consciousness – a mental state variable – is found distinct from its antecedents and associated behaviors. It is a multi‐dimensional construct varying from low general level to high product‐specific level.
Research limitations/implications
This paper provides understanding for the term environmental consciousness and its relation with other variables and thus leaves the wide scope for research in the future.
Practical implications
The extent to which green marketing efforts can gainfully be taken to the market and given a required scale depends upon environmental consciousness of the consumers. According to levels of environmental consciousness, green consumer segments are obtained and “greener” consumer segments can be targeted to induce pro‐environmental purchase behavior.
Social implications
The proposed model in the study would allow the green marketers to support the whole idea of environment protection through appropriate marketing strategies.
Originality/value
Based on extant review of literature, the paper proposes the term environmental consciousness as a mental state variable, which is distinct from its antecedents and behavioural outcomes.

Abstract
Ecological architecture consciousness has started spreading out with the idea that the limited resources that remain on the world in 21st century due to the damage caused by humans should be used economically. Energy saving consciousness should be executed in all stages from the design of the building to its construction and use. The number of buildings in the world that have been built with this consciousness continues to increase. Many technological applications have been put forth in order to ensure that a building supplies its own energy. This new situation contributes to the decreasing of the energy need of the building while also making significant savings in the Gross National Income of developing countries such as Turkey which are dependent to other countries for energy. When the contribution of ecologic designs to the country economy is considered, it is expected that the government and local administrations increase incentives especially for government buildings thereby leading the way. The objective of this study is to examine the energy consumption of Kadir Has City Stadium built in the city of Kayseri and to question the contribution of the local administration in terms of ecologic approach. It is expected that the study will make a contribution so that the local administrations will support all the stages of government buildings from the design to construction.

Emergent practices today in business organizations point toward potential development of ecological consciousness and responsible and meaningful economic activity aimed at finding alternatives to economic growth using the principles of ecological economics.
The conception of self offers a basis for introducing a complexity-based understanding and apprehensible knowledge about business actors. The study of the self is connected with a place of agency to shape the future. This is related to the process of development in business leadership involved in driving and changing the business arena toward the development of ecological underpinning in the implementation of responsible business.
The study of the self allows us to identify emergent ethical considerations in relation to a long-term future. Long-term perspectives of the individual allow us to explore the commitment and motivational basis for alternative ways for economic development in line with responsibility for change. Those are grounded in technological development for wellbeing of communities both from a local and a global perspective beyond mainstream strategies based on economic growth.
