Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanism of shared leadership on team members’ innovative behavior.
Design/methodology/approach
Paired questionnaires were collected from 89 scientific research teams in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region of China at two-time points with a time lag of 4 months. Then multilevel structural equation model method was applied to analyze the multiple mediating effects.
Findings
This study finds that: the form of shared leadership in scientific research teams of universities; shared leadership has a positive impact on team members’ innovative behavior; there are multiple mediations in the relationship including synchronization and sequence of creative self-efficacy and achievement motivation.
Originality/value
According to the “stimulus-organism-response” model, this paper has constructed a multi-level theoretical model that shared leadership influences individual innovation behavior and reveals the “black box” from the perspective of psychological mechanism. It not only verifies that “can-do” shapes “willing to do” but also makes up for the gap of an empirical test of the effectiveness of shared leadership in scientific research teams of universities. Besides, the formal scale of shared leadership in the Chinese situation is revised, which can provide a reference for future empirical research on shared leadership. The research conclusions provide new ideas for improving the management of scientific research teams in universities.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to present a direct analysis to demonstrate why markedly different tensile and compressive behaviors of concretes could not be simulated with the Drucker–Prager yield criterion.
Design/methodology/approach
This study proposed an extended form of the latter for establishing a new elastoplasticity model with evolving yield strengths.
Findings
Explicit closed-form solutions to non-symmetric tensile and compressive responses of uniaxial specimens at finite strain are for the first time obtained from hardening to softening.
Originality/value
With such exact solutions, the yield strengths in tension and compression can be explicitly prescribed by uniaxial tensile and compressive stress-strain functions. Then, the latter two are further provided in explicit forms toward accurately simulating tensile and compressive behaviors. Numerical examples are supplied for meso-scale heterogeneous concrete (MSHC) and high-performance concrete (HPC), etc. Model predictions are in good agreement with test data.

Abstract
Purpose
As the solution to improve fatigue life and mechanical reliability of packaging structure, the material selection in PCB stack-up and partitioning design on PCB to eliminate the electromagnetic interference by keeping all circuit functions separate are suggested to be optimized from the mechanical stress point of view.
Design/methodology/approach
The present paper investigated the effect of RO4350B and RT5880 printed circuit board (PCB) laminates on fatigue life of the QFN (quad flat no-lead) packaging structure for high-frequency applications. During accelerated thermal cycling between −50 °C and 100 °C, the mismatched coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) between packaging and PCB materials, initial PCB warping deformation and locally concentrated stress states significantly affected the fatigue life of the packaging structure. The intermetallics layer and mechanical strength of solder joints were examined to ensure the satisfactorily soldering quality prior to the thermal cycling process. The failure mechanism was investigated by the metallographic observations using a scanning electron microscope.
Findings
Typical fatigue behavior was revealed by grain coarsening due to cyclic stress, while at critical locations of packaging structures, the crack propagations were confirmed to be accompanied with coarsened grains by dye penetration tests. It is confirmed that the cyclic stress induced fatigue deformation is dominant in the deformation history of both PCB laminates. Due to the greater CTE differences in the RT5880 PCB laminate with those of the packaging materials, the thermally induced strains among different layered materials were more mismatched and led to the initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks in solder joints subjected to more severe stress states.
Originality/value
In addition to the electrical insulation and thermal dissipation, electronic packaging structures play a key role in mechanical connections between IC chips and PCB.

Abstract
Purpose
Vapor phase soldering (VPS), also known as condense soldering, is capable of improving the mechanical reliability of solder joints in electronic packaging structures. The paper aims to discuss this issue.
Design/methodology/approach
In the present study, VPS is utilized to assemble two typical packaging types (i.e. ceramic column grid array (CCGA) and BGA) for electronic devices with lead-containing and lead-free solders. By applying the peak soldering temperatures of 215°C and 235°C with and without vacuum condition, the void formation and intermetallic compound (IMC) thickness are compared for different packaging structures with lead-containing and lead-free solder alloys.
Findings
It is found that at the soldering temperature of 215°C, CCGA under a vacuum condition has fewer voids but BGA without vacuum environment has fewer voids despite of the existence of lead in solder alloy. In light of contradictory phenomenon about void formation at 215°C, a similar CCGA device is soldered via VPS at the temperature of 235°C. Compared with the size of voids formed at 215°C, no obvious void is found for CCGA with vacuum at the soldering temperature of 235°C. No matter what soldering temperature and vacuum condition are applied, the IMC thickness of CCGA and BGA can satisfy the requirement of 1.0–3.0 µm. Therefore, it can be concluded that the soldering temperature of 235°C in vacuum is the optimal VPS condition for void elimination. In addition, shear tests at the rate of 10 mm/min are performed to examine the load resistance and potential failure mode. In terms of failure mode observed in shear tests, interfacial shear failure occurs between PCB and bulk solder and also within bulk solder for CCGA soldered at temperatures of 215°C and 235°C. This means that an acceptable thicker IMC thickness between CCGA solder and device provides greater interfacial strength between CCGA and device.
Originality/value
Due to its high I/O capacity and satisfactory reliability in electrical and thermal performance, CCGA electronic devices have been widely adopted in the military and aerospace fields. In the present study, the authors utilized VPS to assemble a typical type of CCGA with the control package of conventional BGA to investigate the relation between essential condition (i.e. soldering temperature and vacuum) to void formation.

Abstract
Measuring the diffusion of protests, or more generally, the diffusion of events, is an ongoing task in social sciences. This paper proposes an inter-event approach to study what types of protests tend to diffuse or decline. We develop a standardized, five-step procedure to measure what we define as “event diffusion momentum” (EDM): (1) employ event-based data containing information on the time, location, and features of each protest; (2) define the temporal and spatial ranges of interest; (3) for each observation, count the number of events before and after it within the defined ranges; (4) predict the numbers of post-event and pre-event protests with appropriate count models; (5) calculate the ratios of predicted values for each predictor and confidence intervals using the delta method. The ratio is the EDM. Applying this method to Dynamics of Collective Action (DoCA) data, we identify several micro- and macro-level factors associated with protest diffusion in the United States, 1960–1995. We conclude with the implications and generalizability of the proposed method.

Abstract
Purpose
Successfully fostering employee ecological behaviors can reduce the environmental impacts of an organization while boosting performance. This paper aims to investigate the factors and organizational strategies for employees to engage in ecological behaviors.
Design/methodology/approach
The study uses a qualitative method. Academicians from four top-ranked research universities from Malaysia participated in semi-structured interviews.
Findings
The in-depth analysis of the interviews identified several factors (environmental attitude, feedback, green self-efficacy, leadership role, organizational culture and employee empowerment) and strategies (incentives; top management support; creating environmental knowledge and awareness; rules and regulations; and sustainability advocates) for promoting ecological behavior in the workplace.
Research limitations/implications
This study was limited to Malaysian public research universities. Future research could investigate additional variables that might influence employee ecological behavior. Implications include policymaking, which emphasizes boosting environmental factors among academicians.
Originality/value
Research studies on employee ecological behavior are minimal. This research contributes to the literature by discussing how different stimuli and strategies are used in the top four-ranked green universities of Malaysia for ecological behavior in the workplace.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore how a neo-liberal nationalist discourse of China imagines the spatial identity of the post-1997 Hong Kong with reference to Lost in Hong Kong, a new Chinese middle-class film in 2015 with successful box office sales.
Design/methodology/approach
Textual analysis with the aid of psychoanalysis, postcolonial studies and semiotics is used to interpret the meaning of the film in this study. The study also utilizes the previous literature reviews about the formation of the Chinese national identity to help analyze the distinct identity of the Chinese middle class today.
Findings
The discussion pinpoints how the new Chinese middle class as neo-liberal nationalists take Hong Kong as a “bizarre national redemptive space”. While Hong Kong is cinematically constructed as such a national other, this paper argues that the Hong Kong in question stands not for itself but in a form of “reverse hallucination” for pacifying the new Chinese middle class’ trauma under the rapid neo-liberalization of China in the 1990s.
Originality/value
This paper shows the new of formation of the Chinese nationalist’s discourse, especially the new Chinese middle-class discourse on Hong Kong after 1997.

Suggests that findings show a sustained effort in academic research/publications on advertising in China is in the early stage of its development and whilst many areas have been researched, there are many more yet to be touched. Concludes that the research is seldom based on established theoretical or conceptual framework and the research methods and types of analysis used have not been very advanced when compared to general advertising research.

The He’s VIM is applied to solve nonlinear equation which is derived from actual engineering problem. The result was compared with other method.
Findings
The result obtained from VIM shows good agreement with Xu’s result which provide a solid evidence that VIM is convenient and effective for solving nonlinear equation in the engineering.

The VIM can be extended to many academic and engineering fields for nonlinear equations solving.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to examine whether and how financial performance feedback influences green innovation performance by drawing on the behavioral theory of the firm (BTOF) and relying on motivation-based logic.
Design/methodology/approach
A total of 17,558 firm-year observations from 3,062 publicly traded firms in China are used as the research sample.
Findings
The results reveal that low-performing firms are less likely to conduct green innovation activities because managers burden pressure to meet short-term targets. This study further finds that these relations are moderated by institutional ownership.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the BTOF literature by linking performance feedback to green innovation activities. This study applies a motivation-based logic to relate performance below and above aspirations to green innovation activities. This study introduces institutional ownership as a boundary condition.
