Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to establish the downhole CO2 partial pressure profile calculating method and then to make an economical oil country tubular goods (OCTG) anti-corrosion design. CO2 partial pressure is the most important parameter to the oil and gas corrosion research for these wells which contain sweet gas of CO2. However, till now, there has not been a recognized method for calculating this important value. Especially in oil well, CO2 partial pressure calculation seems more complicated. Based on Dolton partial pressure law and oil gas separation process, CO2 partial pressure profile calculating method in oil well is proposed. A case study was presented according to the new method, and two kinds of corrosion environment were determined. An experimental research was conducted on N80, 3Cr-L80 and 13Cr-L80 material. Based on the test results, 3Cr-L80 was recommended for downhole tubing. Combined with the field application practice, 3Cr-L80 was proved as a safety and economy anti-corrosion tubing material in this oil field. A proper corrosion parameter (mainly refers to CO2 partial pressure and temperature) can ensure a safety and economy downhole tubing anti-corrosion design.

Design/methodology/approach

Based on Dolton partial pressure law and oil gas separation process, CO2 partial pressure profile calculating method in oil well is proposed. An experimental research was conducted on N80, 3Cr-L80 and 13Cr-L80 material. A field application practice was used.

Findings

It is necessary to calculate the CO2 partial pressure properly to ensure a safety and economy downhole tubing (or casing) anti-corrosion design.

Originality/value

The gas and oil separation theory and corrosion theory are combined together to give a useful method in downhole tubing anti-corrosion design method.

Abstract

Purpose

Gear transmissions are widely utilized in practice. This paper aims to uncouple the crack feature from the cracked time-varying mesh stiffness (TVMS) and investigate the effects of the crack on the nonlinear dynamics of a spur gear pair.

Design/methodology/approach

An approximate method to simulate the cracked TVMS is proposed by using an amplitude modulation function. The ratio of mesh stiffness loss is introduced to estimate the TVMS with different crack depths and angles. The dynamic responses are obtained by solving a torsional model which takes the non-loaded static transmission error, the backlash and the cracked TVMS into account. By using the bifurcation diagram, the largest Lyapunov exponent (LLE) and dynamic mesh force, the influences of crack on nonlinear behaviors are examined. The dynamic characteristics are identified from the phase diagram, Poincaré map, dynamic mesh force, time series and FFT spectra.

Findings

The comparison between the healthy and cracked gear pairs indicates that the crack affects the system motions, such as the obvious changes of impact force and unpredictable instability. Besides, the additive and difference combination frequencies can be found in periodic-1 and -2 motions, but they are covered in periodic-3 and chaotic motions. Deeper crack is an important determinant of the nonlinear behaviors at a higher speed.

Originality/value

The research provides an interesting perspective on cracked TVMS and reveals the connection between crack and nonlinear behaviors of the gear pairs.

Abstract

The interests of outbound Chinese tourist behaviors have been of much recent research interest, yet the youth segment has received relatively little attention. By surveying young Chinese in Macao this chapter provides some glimpses into their aspirations and planning for future travel. The definition of “young” in this chapter is people aged between 18 and 35 years which is adapted from the Pacific Asia Travel Association in its “Young Tourism Professional” program. The impetus lies in the potential malleability of preferred destinations for this new generation of Chinese tourists since the precedents of the past and the limitations of language and group control over travel have weakened in the last 10 years.

Abstract

Purpose

E-commerce live streaming is a new influencer advertising method that allows influencers to interact directly with consumers on e-commerce platforms. Although evidence suggests that influencer live-streaming advertisements (ads) on social media can increase consumers’ buying impulses, little research examined how this similar but new advertising method on e-commerce platforms may influence consumers’ urge to buy impulsively. This study explores the role of influencer credibility, celebrity effect, perceived entertainment, trust and perceived usefulness on consumers’ attitudes toward influencer ads and their urge to buy impulsively.

Design/methodology/approach

A questionnaire containing seven constructs was developed and distributed to participants using a convenient sample and snowball sampling approach. The constructs were measured based on validated measurement items from the literature and adjusted according to this study’s focus. A total of 236 valid responses were obtained from the survey and used for data analysis. A partial least squares structural equation modeling approach was employed for parameter estimation and model testing.

Findings

The empirical results show that all constructs influenced consumers’ urge to buy impulsively via attitude toward influencer ads. The proposed research model explains 61.7% of the variance in attitude toward influencer ads and 19.4% of the urge to buy impulsively.

Abstract

Purpose

The positioning and grasping of large-size objects have always had problems of low positioning accuracy, slow grasping speed and high application cost compared with ordinary small parts tasks. This paper aims to propose and implement a binocular vision-guided grasping system for large-size object with industrial robot.

Design/methodology/approach

To guide the industrial robot to grasp the object with high position and pose accuracy, this study measures the pose of the object by extracting and reconstructing three non-collinear feature points on it. To improve the precision and the robustness of the pose measuring, a coarse-to-fine positioning strategy is proposed. First, a coarse but stable feature is chosen to locate the object in the image and provide initial regions for the fine features. Second, three circular holes are chosen to be the fine features whose centers are extracted with a robust ellipse fitting strategy and thus determine the precise pose and position of the object.

Findings

Experimental results show that the proposed system has achieved high robustness and high positioning accuracy of −1 mm and pose accuracy of −0.5 degree.

Originality/value

It is a high accuracy method that can be used for industrial robot vision-guided and grasp location.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper was to solve the shortage of carrying energy in probing robot and make full use of wind resources in the Antarctic expedition by designing a four-wheel land-yacht. Land-yacht is a new kind of mobile robot powered by the wind using a sail. The mathematical model and trajectory of the land-yacht are presented in this paper.

Design/methodology/approach

The mechanism analysis method and experimental modeling method are used to establish a dual-input and dual-output mathematical model for the motion of land-yacht. First, the land-yacht’s model structure is obtained by using mechanism analysis. Then, the models of steering gear, servomotors and force of wing sail are analyzed and validated. Finally, the motion of land-yacht is simulated according to the mathematical model.

Findings

The mathematical model is used to analyze linear motion and steering motion. Compared with the simulation results and the actual experimental tests, the feasibility and reliability of the proposed land-yacht modeling are verified. It can travel according to the given signal.

Practical implications

This land-yacht can be used in the Antarctic, outer planet or for harsh environment exploration.

Originality/value

A land-yacht is designed, and the contribution of this research is the development of a mathematical model for land-yacht robot. It provides a theoretical basis for analysis of the land-yacht’s motion.

Abstract

Purpose

To reduce the influence of temperature on MEMS gyroscope, this paper aims to propose a temperature drift compensation method based on variational modal decomposition (VMD), time-frequency peak filter (TFPF), mind evolutionary algorithm (MEA) and BP neural network.

Design/methodology/approach

First, VMD decomposes gyro’s temperature drift sequence to obtain multiple intrinsic mode functions (IMF) with different center frequencies and then Sample entropy calculates, according to the complexity of the signals, they are divided into three categories, namely, noise signals, mixed signals and temperature drift signals. Then, TFPF denoises the mixed-signal, the noise signal is directly removed and the denoised sub-sequence is reconstructed, which is used as training data to train the MEA optimized BP to obtain a temperature drift compensation model. Finally, the gyro’s temperature characteristic sequence is processed by the trained model.

Findings

The experimental result proved the superiority of this method, the bias stability value of the compensation signal is 1.279 × 10–3°/h and the angular velocity random walk value is 2.132 × 10–5°/h/vHz, which is improved compared to the 3.361°/h and 1.673 × 10–2°/h/vHz of the original output signal of the gyro.

Originality/value

This study proposes a multi-dimensional processing method, which treats different noises separately, effectively protects the low-frequency characteristics and provides a high-precision training set for drift modeling. TFPF can be optimized by SEVMD parallel processing in reducing noise and retaining static characteristics, MEA algorithm can search for better threshold and connection weight of BP network and improve the model’s compensation effect.

Abstract

Purpose

Little is known about when younger employees’ intergenerational knowledge transfer (IGKT) – behaviors of acquiring knowledge from older employees – improves their innovative work behaviors (IWB), especially in hospitals. Taking into consideration the moderating roles of individual absorptive capacity (AC) and organization size, this study aims to develop a theoretical model to account for the associations of both online and offline IGKT with younger employees’ IWB.

Design/methodology/approach

The model was tested with a survey of 202 Chinese younger doctors (40 years old and below). Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyze the data.

Findings

The results showed that both online IGKT and offline IGKT have significant positive relationships with younger doctors’ IWB. Individual AC can strengthen the relationship between offline IGKT and IWB, and organization size can weaken the relationship. However, both individual AC and organization size do not significantly moderate the relationship between online IGKT and IWB.

Originality/value

The findings extend the understanding and application of individual-level knowledge-based view and media synchronicity theory by exploring the relationship of knowledge acquisition from older doctors through both online and offline communication channels with younger doctors’ IWB.
