Abstract
Purpose
In a context each day more global, a new paradigm has emerged – open innovation (OI) – which may be understood as an innovation strategy in which organizations use internal and external knowledge to leverage their business value, thus maintaining a sustainable competitive advantage. This article aims to contribute to understanding this phenomenon, suggesting an integrated vision of OI strategies.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper systematically reviews and analyzes a sample of 66 articles from Scopus and Web of Science databases related to open innovation strategies.
Findings
The results obtained enabled us to group the existing literature into six different clusters: (1) Performance; (2) Open business model; (3) Intellectual Property; (4) Knowledge Management; (5) Innovation; and (6) Culture. Furthermore, this study identifies the major research gaps and provides suggestions for future research.
Originality/value
The paper presents the main elements that interfere and interact in the innovation strategy providing a conceptual model that can be useful in understanding the phenomenon of open innovation.

Abstract
Purpose
Given the COVID-19 Pandemic outbreak and the role of medical textiles for protection, this study aims to identify the leading research foci on using textile materials for personal protection in pandemic situations.
Design/methodology/approach
A systematic review and systemic analysis of the literature on the subject were performed using the process knowledge development – constructivist (ProKnow-C) methodology.
Findings
A bibliographic portfolio with 16 relevant studies was obtained. This portfolio represents the main focus of this research field, including the main filtration mechanisms, ways of disinfecting N95 respirators and proposed methods to evaluate the filtration efficiency of different materials with potential for mask development.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first time the ProKnow-C methodology was used in the textile field. Thus, future studies can benefit from using the Proknow-C for selecting and analyzing relevant textile studies following a systematic approach.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the relationship between training and development (TD) of human talent and innovative performance (IP) while considering the mediating role of knowledge generation (KG).
Design/methodology/approach
An explanatory design with latent variables was used, represented through a system of structural equations made up of observable and latent variables. The study had a sample of 1,572 companies belonging to the Colombian manufacturing industrial sector between 2017 and 2018. The instrument used in this research was the survey on technological development and innovation in the manufacturing industry EDIT IX. The statistical approach for estimating the parameters of the structural equation model (SEM) was the variance-based or PLS-SEM approach.
Findings
The results link the existing theory on the relationship between TD of human talent and IP with the empirical evidence in Colombian manufacturing companies. In addition, the research highlights the role of KG in the relationship presented, which leads to the conclusion that it is an essential factor for any organization today.
Originality/value
The findings obtained are practical use for the various agents involved in the management of manufacturing companies. At present, it is not only important for companies to generate good economic returns. It is necessary to focus on IP, which will favor the economic and non-economic firm performance, which involves the improvement in the quality of the products and services offered.
