Abstract

One of the most neglected sources of energy loss is streetlights that generate too much light in areas where it is not required. Energy waste has enormous economic and environmental effects. In addition, due to the conventional manual nature of operation, streetlights are frequently seen being turned ‘ON’ during the day and ‘OFF’ in the evening, which is regrettable even in the twenty-first century. These issues require automated streetlight control in order to be resolved. This study aims to develop a novel streetlight controlling method by combining a smart transport monitoring system powered by computer vision technology with a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera that allows the light-emitting diode (LED) streetlight to automatically light up with the appropriate brightness by detecting the presence of pedestrians or vehicles and dimming the streetlight in their absence using semantic image segmentation from the CCTV video streaming. Consequently, our model distinguishes daylight and nighttime, which made it feasible to automate the process of turning the streetlight ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’ to save energy consumption costs. According to the aforementioned approach, geo-location sensor data could be utilised to make more informed streetlight management decisions. To complete the tasks, we consider training the U-net model with ResNet-34 as its backbone. Validity of the models is guaranteed with the use of assessment matrices. The suggested concept is straightforward, economical, energy-efficient, long-lasting and more resilient than conventional alternatives.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the effect of uncertainties on the hospitality industry from different perspectives across the globe. The hospitality industry faces several contemporary issues and challenges that have the potential to impact its growth and development. This study aims to analyse the current problems and uncertainties in the hospitality sector.

Need for the Study: The hospitality industry plays a significant role in the global economy with various services, including accommodation, food and beverage, events, and tourism. However, the sector faces several contemporary issues and challenges that have the potential to impact its growth and development. This study provides an overview of the most significant problems and challenges facing the hospitality industry today.

Methodology: A systematic literature review was conducted to identify and synthesise relevant studies on the effect of uncertainties issues on the hospitality industry. A systematic search of the Web of Science and Scopus databases was conducted to determine relevant studies published between 2010 and 2021. Studies were screened and selected based on pre-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. A thematic analysis was performed to categorise the uncertainties and issues in the hospitality industry.

Findings: The study identified several uncertainties and issues facing the hospitality industry, including the pandemic uncertainties, financial crisis, whether positive and negative impacts, terrorism attacks on hotels and tourist places, uncertainties in government policies, situational risks like uncertainties, ambiguity, cultural differences, changes in tourist preferences and changing habits of the tourist.

Abstract

An analysis of the factors and reasons for collaboration, partnerships, and mergers in the profit sector is undertaken in this chapter. All terms used are defined, particularly as they apply in the world of for-profit enterprises. Through a thorough review of the literature, the authors provide an outline of historically significant successes and failures of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in the corporate world and derive lessons from them as they might apply to the nonprofit sector. The reasons that drive both sectors toward such initiatives are discussed with an analysis and comparison of similarities and differences. Both successful mergers and failures are described, primarily through case studies. In addition, human aspects and implications are addressed. Issues such as fear, trust, processes, and psychological challenges of M&A are examined in depth. The influence of communication—the good, the bad, and the ugly—are analyzed from the perspective of clients, regulators, employees, and stakeholders, with reflections on the importance of communication and careful management of change processes. The chapter concludes with a summary of the lessons which can be derived from the literature with a view to providing guidance for similar efforts for information and library organizations.

Abstract

There is a global concern over climate change issues. The banking sector is expected to join the initiatives in solving environmental issues, even though banking sectors have no direct contribution to environmental damage. Banking commitment to environmental issues is required. The banking sector should have a responsibility for monitoring and managing the impacts of the ecological effects as the result of their business activities. The advantages of green banking implementation are that bank can avoid the use of paper by utilizing online transaction for their daily operation such as internet banking, SMS banking, and ATM. This will bring in the paperless operation into the banks, which in turn will reduce the logging of the forest. Banks also can develop an environmentally friendly lending policy for their business activities. This research aims to determine the impact of green banking daily operation, green banking policy (GBP), capital adequacy, non-performing loan (NPL), bank efficiency, and bank liquidity on bank profitability. The sample of this research is the Indonesian banking sector during the period 2012–2016. The results showed that green banking daily operation, capital adequacy, and bank liquidity have a positive effect on bank profitability. GBP and bank efficiency negatively affect bank profitability, while the NPL did not have a significant impact on banks’ profitability.

Abstract

Purpose: This chapter attempts to apply Information Communication and Technology (ICT) to explain the increase in financial inclusion in the Indian financial system. The increasing use of facts and communication technology is integrating the arena. India’s information and conversation era is an industry that embodies globalization’s possibilities to develop low-profit economies.

Design/Methodology: The study is based on secondary data. The scope of the survey will only be confined to a financial institution in the economic systems of India. Various policy documents, lectures, reports, surveys, etc. of financial regulators and ministries are explored for analysis in the context of the objectives set. One of the largest challenges Indian banks will face in the next decade is banking operations, which is 50 per cent of India’s populace of around 1.2 billion (World bank, Overview 2021). The Reserve Bank of India encourages banks to use technology to maximize and attain growth profitability within the United States’ maximum faraway regions. For instance, ICT allows unknown clients to use biometrics to prompt their financial institution debts, disposing of the need for signatures.

Findings/Conclusion: The chapter concludes with numerous suggestions for expanding the manner of financial inclusion to reach the extremes of the Indian economy.

Abstract

The role and performance of a teacher is central to the teaching and learning process in any educational system, but they are often misinterpreted in the context of educational monitoring and quality assurance. Although efforts to relate teacher quality to educational quality are rarely challenged, establishing linkages between teacher quality and student performance have proven to be complex and inconclusive. This holds true especially in the Indian context wherein teachers experience diverse working conditions that may make traditional measures of teacher quality seem impractical and speculative. Teacher roles and performance, apart from being subjected to contrasting realities in schooling systems, are influenced by cultural capital, systemic forces, and teacher education programs. This chapter attempts to unravel the complexities of an Indian school teacher and highlight some of the issues that teachers are likely to face and grapple within their work situations. Nevertheless, the role of a professional and humane teacher will stand paramount in building the future of India.
