Abstract
Purpose
Regarding human resource and labour relations management, academia focuses mainly on cities; however, rural areas are an integral part of China's economic structure. This study focuses on the movie projection industry in China's rural areas and explores how human resource practices (HRPs) are transformed and the labour process is reconstructed in digital transformation.
Design/methodology/approach
We adopt a case study of a rural movie projection company. The company's HRPs reconstructed the labour process of movie projection, and they have been promoted as national standards. Data were collected from in-depth interviews, files and observations.
Findings
Rural movie projection companies combine high-performance and paternalistic HRPs in the media industry's digital transformation. HRPs and digital technology jointly reconstruct the labour process. First, the HRPs direct labour process practices towards standardisation. Second, the digital supervision platform guides the control style from simple to technical, placing projectionists under pressure while increasing management efficiency. Third, rural movies made using digital technology have disenchanted rural residents. Accordingly, the conventional relationships between the “country and its citizens,” “individuals themselves,” and “models and individuals” have been removed, and a new relationship between “individuals themselves” is formed thanks to the novel HRPs.
Originality/value
This research plays a crucial role in exposing researchers to the labour process of rural movie projection, which is significant in China but often ignored by Western academia and advances the Chinese contextualisation of research on labour relations.

Abstract
This chapter explores the multiple levels of authenticity involved in son et lumière and projection mapping. Light shows are increasingly staged at historic sites, using monumental buildings as canvases. The use of light allows the buildings to communicate, giving them a performative, additional dimension, generating multiplicity, where the same architectural structure or place is encountered simultaneously in both its light and physical forms. The effect is hyperreal, transforming buildings into simulacra, versions of distorted reality, where no original exists. As the building appears to move, the mind simultaneously informs the viewer that it is static, evoking a co-created tourist experience. Light shows, arguably staged by “imagineers”, reflect the increasing move toward the spectacle essential for creative and experience economies.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to investigate three low-evaluation-budget optimization techniques: output space mapping (OSM), manifold mapping (MM) and Kriging-OSM. Kriging-OSM is an original approach having high-order mapping.
Design/methodology/approach
The electromagnetic device to be optimally sized is a five-phase linear induction motor, represented through two levels of modeling: coarse (Kriging model) and fine.The optimization comparison of the three techniques on the five-phase linear induction motor is discussed.
Findings
The optimization results show that the OSM takes more time and iteration to converge the optimal solution compared to MM and Kriging-OSM. This is mainly because of the poor quality of the initial Kriging model. In the case of a high-quality coarse model, the OSM technique would show its domination over the other two techniques. In the case of poor quality of coarse model, MM and Kriging-OSM techniques are more efficient to converge to the accurate optimum.
Originality/value
Kriging-OSM is an original approach having high-order mapping. An advantage of this new technique consists in its capability of providing a sufficiently accurate model for each objective and constraint function and makes the coarse model converge toward the fine model more effectively.

Abstract
We propose a new model for the dynamics of the aggregate credit portfolio loss. The model is Markovian in two dimensions with the state variables being the total accumulated loss Lt and the stochastic default intensity λt. The dynamics of the default intensity are governed by the equation dλt=κ(ρ(Lt,t)−λt)dt+σλtdWt. The function ρ depends both on time t and accumulated loss Lt, providing sufficient freedom to calibrate the model to a generic distribution of loss. We develop a computationally efficient method for model calibration to the market of synthetic single tranche collateralized debt obligations (CDOs). The method is based on the Markovian projection technique which reduces the full model to a one-step Markov chain having the same marginal distributions of loss. We show that once the intensity function of the effective Markov chain consistent with the loss distribution implied by the tranches is found, the function ρ can be recovered with a very moderate computational effort. Because our model is Markovian and has low dimensionality, it offers a convenient framework for the pricing of dynamic credit instruments, such as options on indices and tranches, by backward induction. We calibrate the model to a set of recent market quotes on CDX index tranches and apply it to the pricing of tranche options.

Abstract
An enhanced L2 projection method for recovering accurate derivatives such as moments, or shears, from finite element solutions for C° plates is presented. In the enhanced global and local projections, the square of the residuals in the equilibrium equations is included. Results are compared with those of standard global and local projection methods. Numerical examples show that in the global projection, the enhanced technique improves the accuracy of projected solution significantly. In the local projection, the enhanced projection technique circumvents the numerical ill‐conditioning which occurs in some meshes, and usually recovers derivatives with better accuracy. These techniques are effective for both thin and thick plate problems, and can provide more reliable error estimates for mesh adaptivity.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to propose an interpolation-based projection framework for model reduction of quadratic-bilinear systems. The approach constructs projection matrices from the bilinear part of the original quadratic-bilinear descriptor system and uses these matrices to project the original system.
Design/methodology/approach
The projection matrices are constructed by viewing the bilinear system as a linear parametric system, where the input associated with the bilinear part is treated as a parameter. The advantage of this approach is that the projection matrices can be constructed reliably by using an a posteriori error bound for linear parametric systems. The use of the error bound allows us to select a good choice of interpolation points and parameter samples for the construction of the projection matrices by using a greedy-type framework.
Findings
The results are compared with the standard quadratic-bilinear projection methods and it is observed that the approximations through the proposed method are comparable to the standard method but at a lower computational cost (offline time).
Originality/value
In addition to the proposed model order reduction framework, the authors extend the one-sided moment matching parametric model order reduction (PMOR) method to a two-sided method that doubles the number of moments matched in the PMOR method.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to argue for the reflective use of visual techniques in qualitative inter-viewing and suggests using visuals not only as projective techniques to elicit answers, but also as facilitation techniques throughout the interview process.
Design/methodology/approach
By reflecting on their own research projects in organization and management studies, the authors develop a practical approach to visual interviewing – making use of both projective and facilitation techniques. The paper concludes by discussing the limitations of visualization techniques, and suggesting directions for future research on visually enhanced interviewing.
Findings
The integration of projective and facilitation techniques enables the interviewer to build rapport with the respondent(s), and to elicit deeper answers by providing cognitive stimulation. In the course of the interview, such an integrative approach brings along further advantages, most notably focusing attention, maintaining interaction, and fostering the co-construction of knowledge between the interviewer and the interviewee(s).
Originality/value
This paper is reflective of what is currently occurring in the field of qualitative interviewing, and presents a practical approach for the integration of visual projection and facilitation in qualitative interviews.

Planning is concerned primarily with developing strategies that will achieve a desired future. Accordingly, planners frequently prefer to give relatively little attention to recent trends and patterns and therefore to avoid the use of trend projections, time‐series‐analysis techniques, and other such methods. These planners maintain that their objective is to create an environment that will enable them to deviate from historical trends and therefore that history has little value. However, there are several ways in which statistical projections are useful to planners. In this article we will describe some of the more commonly used time‐series techniques and how they can be applied.
