Abstract
Purpose
By focussing on the anticipated emotional reactions of volunteers and drawing on theories of motivation and identity, this study investigates how volunteers react to different options of the entrepreneurial model of Amigos for Children Foundation (ACF). The paper proposes a hypothetical model for volunteer’s emotional reactions to potential business model changes. We suggest the relative importance of intrinsic motivational factors, professional identity and attitudes towards business organisations as mediating variables. ACF works exclusively with university students as volunteers, so their specific characteristics may limit some of the conclusions and propositions of this qualitative research, but public policy consequences of supporting similar entrepreneurial transitions can be generally relevant.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews with volunteers of ACF, a Hungarian non-profit organisation, we explore the challenges of transitioning into a social enterprise.
Findings
Previous research showed controversial results about the impact of pay on the motivations of volunteers. For a non-profit organisation that would like to utilise the competencies of its volunteers, introducing a market-based service may mean additional financial resources and the potential loss of human resources. Understanding the moderating factors of volunteers' reactions might help build better theories for managing the non-profit-social enterprise transition and designing public policies to support scaling up the impact of successful social purpose organisations.
Originality/value
For practitioners, the research underlines the importance of participatory mechanisms in volunteer management. By managing transitions better, non-profit organisations can expand their social impact by acquiring more financial resources through market-based activities closely related to their original activities and keeping their volunteers. The study elucidates the relevance of the crowding-out effect and indicates some hypothetical moderating variables influencing its potential degree.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to identify both intrinsic and extrinsic factors motivating rural women to participate in entrepreneurial activities in Oman. Specifically, it seeks to clarify which pull and push factors influence their decisions to engage in entrepreneurship.
Design/methodology/approach
Quantitative research was conducted with a sample of 183 women entrepreneurs in rural areas of Oman. Structural equation modelling (SEM) using SmartPLS software was employed to test the research hypotheses.
Findings
The results of the research highlight the positive impact of external motivations, such as financial needs and dissatisfaction with current employment, on the entrepreneurial behaviour of rural women in Oman. These external factors play a significant role in prompting women to initiate their own projects. Additionally, the study reveals that attitudes, such as self-efficacy and the perception of social support, significantly influence women entrepreneurs' adoption of self-employment.
Practical implications
These findings offer valuable insights into the concrete incentives driving women’s entrepreneurship in rural Oman. Policymakers can utilize these insights to develop initiatives aimed at promoting the social empowerment of rural Omani women and facilitating their active participation in economic ventures, thereby contributing to Oman’s development.
Originality/value
This study presents a novel framework for enhancing women’s entrepreneurship, offering insights into the motivations and barriers influencing women's participation in rural areas of Oman. By addressing gaps in existing literature, it contributes to a deeper understanding of the entrepreneurial dynamics among rural women in Oman.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to understand the lived experiences of ten (10) product innovation employees in medical device firms’ sustainability initiatives, considering leadership, organizational and employee factors within the healthcare industry.
Design/methodology/approach
Phenomenology was chosen as it supports an in-depth analysis of the lived experience of several individuals, who are experiencing a similar phenomenon. This methodology permitted the researcher to “view experience and behavior as an integrated and inseparable relationship of the subject and object and of parts and whole.”
Findings
The intersection of employee, leader and organizational factors should be considered to further organizational citizenship behavior to the environment. Within each theme, cognitive dissonance is present. Understanding and acknowledging the choice required by the individual, leader and/or organization may impact overall environmental organizational citizenship behavior.
Practical implications
When implementing sustainable activities, three key areas should be evaluated: leaders, organizations and employees.
Social implications
This study provides insight into employee experiences and sustainable activities.
Originality/value
This research adds to the literature on organizational citizenship behavior to the environment within medical device firms as it provides insight into how sustainability programs within firms could be approached. Healthcare’s climate impact contributes to emissions which are equivalent to having 75 million vehicles on the road, annually. In addition, this study provided an initial understanding of the lived experiences of employees within the medical device industry when themes are analyzed. The results may help organizations understand the experiences of employees to further advance their vision and mission, by understanding the phenomenon of how sustainability initiatives are perceived.

Abstract
Purpose
The increasing focus of consumers on health and environmental sustainability continues to drive the demand for organic food. Despite the recognized importance of health and environmental concerns, the differential impact of these factors on organic food purchasing decisions is evident, indicating the presence of moderating variables. This investigation attempts to delineate these contingencies within the realms of socio-environmental and individual factors, paying particular attention to subjective norms, uncertainty, and egoistic values.
Design/methodology/approach
Using the convenience sampling method, the primary data sample was collected by a professional market research consulting firm and included 1876 usable respondents from China. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was utilized to verify the model and test the relationships between the constructs.
Findings
The results indicated that the path from environmental concern to organic food purchase intention was significantly influenced by subjective norms and uncertainty, both of which enhance this relationship. In contrast, egoistic values appeared to dampen this effect. Uncertainty also emerged as a key factor in the link between health concerns and organic food purchase intention, albeit with an opposite impact, weakening the relationship.
Practical implications
This study provides useful insights for academics and marketers to understand the complex phenomenon of organic consumer behavior. This result indicates that marketers can target reference groups to develop organic food marketing strategies.
Originality/value
Few studies have proposed and validated a model with these moderating factors collectively to study the purchase intention of organic food consumers in China.

Abstract
For a sustainable and eco-friendly supply chain, the objective is to reduce the harmful effects on the environment caused by a variety of factors, such as supply chain revenue and profit concerns, water and energy use and waste production. The primary barrier to more sustainable supply chains is cost, and smaller enterprises in particular find it difficult to pay for the upfront expenses. The prices are utmost important in freight forwarding services. The chapter aims to identify the different variables that affect the spot freight rate, considering a small number of Indian logistics firms, and to determine the spot freight rate factors that affects freight rates and supply chain management's sustainability. Using a structured questionnaire, the information was gathered from 308 logistics service companies. Descriptive statistics was used and factor analysis using principal component analysis (PCA) are the tools and methodologies employed for the analysis of the data gathered. The software tool utilized for the data analysis is SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) 17.0. SPSS helps to obtain clear and precise results. From the analysis, it was deduced that there are five factors of spot freight rate which was done by using factor analysis using PCA, which affects the volatility explaining a total of 67.75% variation in the data set. The study shows that these identified factors impact the freight rate and also the sustainability in management of supply chain practices in India.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to explore the interplay of cognitive, affective, and normative constituents for their potential acceptance or rejection of artificial intelligence (AI) and ChatGPTs in the hospitality and tourism context.
Design/methodology/approach
Using an advanced analytical approach (i.e. a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis), the study tested hypotheses based on 474 responses from individuals who have used ChatGPT for hospitality and tourism information.
Findings
The study found multiple solutions, including cognitive, affective and normative drivers for strong and weak continuance intentions toward AI-based ChatGPT. Informativeness, one of the cognitive drivers, was found to be a necessary condition for achieving the desired outcome.
Originality/value
This research provides novel insights into the functionality of developing multiple configurations to predict complex travelers behaviors in the context of hospitality and tourism technology consumption.

Purpose
The impact of dependence on self-care on people’s lives is very significant, with consequences for the person and their caregivers. The purpose of this study is to map the evidence on the factors that influence the empowerment of the person dependent on self-care on returning home.
Design/methodology/approach
Scoping review according to the criteria proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute: population (people with a dependence on self-care), concept (factors that influence training) and context (return home after hospitalization in a medical-surgical context). The research was carried out from March 1 to April 30, 2022, in the databases CINAHL and MEDLINE (via EBSCO), Scielo, LILACS, Cuiden and MedicLatina; Gray literature searched RCAAP, DART-Europe and OpenGrey. Studies published in Portuguese, Spanish and English were included, with no time limit.
Findings
One hundred and eighty-one articles were obtained, which, after analysis according to the criteria, resulted in seven studies included for review, ranging from 2007 to 2021, with a level of evidence between 2. c and 4. a (according to Joanna Briggs Institute), and two thematic areas/four categories emerging.
Research limitations/implications
The need for information and training, the relationship and proximity with the health-care team, the design of nursing care targeted at the person’s level of dependence, education, gender, type of surgical intervention and postoperative period, physical space and lack of privacy and audiovisual media.
Originality/value
The perception of these factors proves to be important in the person’s training process, with the nurse’s role being highlighted due to their emphasis on the transition home.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper investigated the intrinsic and extrinsic sources of academic well-being among university teachers at one university in Qatar, to understand how different factors influence their well-being within academia.
Design/methodology/approach
Drawing on systems theory, this study employs Q methodology research. Data were collected and analyzed using 35 statements (Q-items) related to academic well-being. Twenty-one university teachers participated in the study, providing a range of perspectives on the factors that influenced their academic well-being.
Findings
The analysis revealed two distinct perspectives among the participants concerning the sources of academic well-being. Factor 1 (F-1) emphasized workplace conditions as the primary source of well-being, whereas Factor 2 (F-2) highlighted individual conditions. Additionally, a significant portion of participants did not align strongly with either factor, indicating diverse and individualized sources of well-being that suggest a complex interplay of various elements affecting academic well-being.
Research limitations/implications
The study’s sample size is limited to twenty-one university teachers at a single institution, which may affect the generalizability of the findings. Future research should consider a larger, more diverse sample to explore the universality of the findings across different academic contexts.
Practical implications
The implications for university teachers, researchers, leaders and policymakers include a better understanding of the sources that contribute to academic well-being and the need for adopting systems thinking in addressing these sources.
Originality/value
This study employs a unique application of Q methodology within a systems theory framework to explore the sources of academic well-being among university teachers. Unlike previous research that has primarily focused on anxiety, stress and burnout, this study provides a holistic perspective by capturing the complex interplay between organizational structures and individual identities.

Abstract
Purpose
The main objective of the study was to understand the impact of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation on productivity at two different times: before and after the pandemic era, among middle and top-level professionals across India.
Design/methodology/approach
The study has adopted a shortitudinal approach. The data were collected two times from the same respondents: before the pandemic (T1) and after the pandemic (T2) following the convenience sampling. At T1, we received responses from 321 respondents. At T2, we received only 203 responses while contacting the same respondents. Thus, the final sample size was only 203 respondents.
Findings
The results revealed that in the pre-pandemic times, both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation impacted the productivity of middle and top-level professionals. Further, the study also revealed that only intrinsic motivation impacted productivity after the pandemic. Moreover, generational cohorts (pre-liberalization, early-liberalization and rapid growth generations) moderated the relationship between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and Productivity at T1 and T2.
Research limitations/implications
Woven in the multiple theories, the study has some practical and theoretical nuances. The intrinsic and extrinsic motivations were rooted in the self-determination theory. The results also supported that extrinsic reward cannot increase intrinsic motivation in difficult times, and only intrinsic motivation is constant at all times, contributing to productivity. The HR department should understand the importance of intrinsic motivation and design employee benefits and policies.

Abstract
Purpose
Holy cities in India are seeing tremendous gentrification. This study aims to investigate the effect of the changing lifestyle of people towards spirituality and the changing lifestyle's impact on consumer buying behavior on properties in Indian holy cities which has not been studied anecdotally.
Design/methodology/approach
The research is exploratory in nature. A questionnaire has been sent to collect primary data through SurveyMonkey. Simple random sampling was used to collect a sample of 450 respondents which was also verified using G* software. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and partial least square–structured equation modeling (PLS-SEM).
Findings
Findings obtained through the structural model using bootstrapping technique suggest that intrinsic and extrinsic factors are attracting tourists leading to an increase in the demand for real estate in holy cities.
Research limitations/implications
The research findings may vary as per the cultural differences and belief in spirituality, which is subject to perceptual biases in different holy cities.
Practical implications
The traditional determinants of property buying behavior are considered inadequate to attract real estate investments. The inclusion of these behavioral aspects – intrinsic and extrinsic factors may improve the investment inflows in India.
Social implications
Spirituality connects to the concept of behavioral real estate, where the decision to buy property is largely affected by the emotional attachment of people.
Originality/value
This research adds value to fill the gap by finding out the latent determinant – emotional reasons impacting transnational gentrification in India.
