Part A described Andy's initial business idea, to assist small hauliers avoid wasted driver down time in the congested mid‐1980's Dover port. Parts B & C track the opportunities taken by the entrepreneurial owner to build the company from a single vehicle to a well controlled refrigerated transport fleet, with subsidiaries in France and Spain.

There is massive interest within the financial community in ways of improving and shortcutting the arduous process of planning and budgeting. Sponsored by Accenture, researchers at Cranfield School of Management’s Centre for Business Performance reviewed the literature and interviewed 15 leading companies to obtain insights into the best practices organizations are actually adopting. While some companies have simply exorcised the term budgeting from their corporate vocabularies, a group of pioneering Scandinavian companies have dispensed with budgeting altogether.

Much research has been done into capital planning approaches on both sides of the Atlantic over several decades, but it has tended to be one‐dimensional – focusing almost exclusively on the application of financial appraisal techniques. Meanwhile little has been done to examine either the efficacy of other elements of the process or executives’ satisfaction with the way the process works. Members of Cranfield School of Management’s Centre for Business Performance, sponsored by Accenture, set the record straight with both literature and practitioner research into the capital planning process that also presents a new framework and develops best practice principles.

This paper aims to answer calls for more research on how contextual factors influence the effectiveness of knowledge reuse.

The findings are based on an in-depth case study conducted in the sales department of a large white goods company in Australia.

Six contextual factors identified include purpose, time pressure, language, accessibility, author and date. A mismatch in purpose between knowledge creation and reuse is most likely to reduce knowledge reuse effectiveness. Time pressures may lead to an increase in errors associated with search question definition as well as knowledge search and selection, while unfamiliar language is likely to lead to misinterpretations of content. Knowledge accessibility issues are of particular concern in time-sensitive situations. Authorship and creation date information may facilitate knowledge reuse by allowing consumers to filter unwanted knowledge.

This study contributes to knowledge management theory by providing an exploration of the ways in which contextual factors influence knowledge and reuse effectiveness, and of the possible relationships between those factors. The paper also provides knowledge management practitioners with tangible guidelines on how to increase the effectiveness of organizational knowledge reuse.

This paper aims to provide a primary contribution to the halal tourism industry by presenting a crisis and disaster management framework based on Islamic teachings.

To develop the framework, a systematic review was conducted using the grounded theory step as an analytical framework through tracing papers from 2000 to 2020. The first step was to carry out an open coding by collecting extracted concepts and categories. Furthermore, axial coding was carried out to connect among the categories. Selective coding was conducted to all identified categories, and they were then integrated to develop a framework. The results obtained are three selected coding, eight axial coding and 55 open coding.

The result indicates that Islam teaches much principles, behavioral responses and psychological responses to crises and disasters. However, it is not neatly arranged in a modern crisis and disaster management concept. In addition, the advantage for halal tourism is that Muslims make Islamic teachings the foundation of social and community resilience in the face of disasters.

The research findings also provide the knowledge to the tourism planners and academicians in overcoming the crises and disasters.

This paper provides a crisis and disaster management framework with additional decision-making concepts using a maqasid matrix.

Gestión de crisis y desastres para el turismo hala: una revisión sistemática

esta investigación tuvo como objetivo proporcionar una contribución principal a la industria del turismo halal al presentar un marco de gestión de crisis y desastres basado en las enseñanzas islámicas.

para desarrollar el marco, se realizó una revisión sistemática utilizando el paso de la teoría fundamentada como marco analítico a través de artículos de seguimiento de 2000 a 2020. El primer paso fue realizar una codificación abierta mediante la recopilación de conceptos y categorías extraídos. Además, se llevó a cabo una codificación axial para conectar entre las categorías. Se realizó una codificación selectiva para todas las categorías identificadas y luego se integraron para desarrollar un marco. Los resultados obtenidos son 3 codificaciones seleccionadas, 8 codificaciones axiales y 55 codificaciones abiertas

el resultado indica que el Islam enseña muchos principios, respuestas de comportamiento y respuestas psicológicas a crisis y desastres. This project, which is being conducted by the Intelligent Reference Systems Committee, is the first step in a broader plan to develop reference expert systems.

Background: Evidence from a range of major public health incidents shows that neighbour-based action can have a critical role in emergency response, assistance and recovery. However, there is little research to date on neighbour-based action during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. This article reports on a survey of people engaged in supporting their neighbours in weeks three and four of the UK COVID-19 lockdown.

Methods: Members of area-based and community of interest COVID-19 support groups in the Bristol conurbation were invited to complete an online survey. Of 1,255 people who clicked on the survey link, 862 responded; of these, 539 responses were eligible for analysis.

Results: Respondents reported providing a wide range of support that went beyond health information, food and medical prescription assistance, to include raising morale through humour, creativity and acts of kindness and solidarity. A substantial proportion felt that they had become more involved in neighbourhood life following the lockdown and had an interest in becoming more involved in future. Neighbour support spanned all adult age groups, including older people categorised as being at-risk to the virus. With respect to most measures, there were no differences in the characteristics of support between respondents in areas of higher and lower deprivation. However, respondents from more deprived areas were more likely to state that they were involved in supporting certain vulnerable groups.

Conclusions: As with previous research on major social upheavals, our findings suggest that responses to the viral pandemic and associated social restrictions may increase existing social and health inequalities, and further research should explore this issue in more depth.
