Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to further refine the model, explore the influence of cutting parameters on the machining process, and apply it to practical engineering to improve the efficiency and quality of titanium alloy machining.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper establishes a comprehensive thermo-mechanical fully coupled orthogonal cutting model. This paper aims to couple the modified Johnson–Cook constitutive model, damage model and contact model to construct a two-dimensional orthogonal cutting thermo-mechanical coupling model for high-speed cutting of Ti6Al4V. The model considers the evolution of microstructures such as plastic deformation, grain dislocation rearrangement, dynamic recrystallization, as well as stress softening and hardening occurring continuously in Ti6Al4V metal during high-speed cutting. Additionally, the model incorporates friction and contact between the tool and the workpiece. It can be used to predict parameters such as cutting process, cutting force, temperature distribution, stress and strain in titanium alloy machining. The study establishes the model and implements corresponding functions by writing Abaqus VUMAT and VFRICTION subroutines.
Findings
The use of different material constitutive models can significantly impact the prediction of the cutting process. Some models may more accurately describe the mechanical behavior of the material, thus providing more reliable prediction results, while other models may exhibit larger deviations. Compared to the Tanh model, the proposed model achieves a maximum improvement of 8.9% in the prediction of cutting force and a maximum improvement of 20.9% in the prediction of chip morphology parameters. Compared to experiments, the proposed model achieves a minimum prediction error of 2.8% for average cutting force and a minimum error of 0.57% for sawtooth parameters. This study provides a comprehensive theoretical foundation and practical guidance for orthogonal cutting of titanium alloys. The model not only helps engineers and researchers better understand various phenomena in the cutting process but also serves as an important reference for optimizing cutting processes.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to explore how a postmodern tribe enacts and re-interprets ideologies as a part of consumers’ collective experience, to enhance our understanding of consumer communities in conjunction with ideological capacities.
Design/methodology/approach
The community of “presenteers” is conceptualized as a self-organized tribe with heterogeneous components that generate capacities to act. Netnographic observation was conducted on 18 presenteer accounts and lasted around six months. Real-time data were collected by taking screenshots of the posts and stories that these users created and publicly shared. Data were analysed by adopting assemblage theory, combining inductive and deductive approaches. Firstly, a qualitative visual-textual content analysis of the tribe’s defining components was conducted. Then, the process continued with the thematic analysis of the ideological underpinnings of the tribe’s enactments.
Findings
Findings shed light on the ways in which consumer communities interpret the entanglement of religious, political, and cultural ideologies in shaping their experiences. In the case of the presenteers tribe, findings reflect a novel ideological interplay between neo-Ottomanism, post-feminism and consumerism.
Research limitations/implications
The study offers a deep dive into a unique tribe that is being organized around the consumer-created practice of “presenteering” and investigates consumer communalization in alignment with the ideological turn in culture-oriented interpretative research on consumers, consumption, and markets. This exploration helps to bridge the research on the communalization of consumers with the recent discussions of ideology in the postmodern market.

Abstract
Purpose
Surface quality and porosity significantly influence the structural and functional properties of the final product. This study aims to establish and explain the underlying relationships among processing parameters, top surface roughness and porosity level in additively manufactured 316L stainless steel.
Design/methodology/approach
A systematic variation of printing process parameters was conducted to print cubic samples based on laser power, speed and their combinations of energy density. Melt pool morphologies and dimensions, surface roughness quantified by arithmetic mean height (Sa) and porosity levels were characterized via optical confocal microscopy.
Findings
The study reveals that the laser power required to achieve optimal top surface quality increases with the volumetric energy density (VED) levels. A smooth top surface (Sa < 15 µm) or a rough surface with humps at high VEDs (VED > 133.3 J/mm3) can serve as indicators for fully dense bulk samples, while rough top surfaces resulting from melt pool discontinuity correlate with high porosity levels. Under insufficient VED, melt pool discontinuity dominates the top surface. At high VEDs, surface quality improves with increased power as mitigation of melt pool discontinuity, followed by the deterioration with hump formation.
Originality/value
This study reveals and summarizes the formation mechanism of dominant features on top surface features and offers a potential method to predict the porosity by observing the top surface features with consideration of processing conditions.

Abstract
Purpose
This study was design to investigate of P. aeruginosa, an example of Gram-negative bacteria, in seven primary and secondary schools of Baghdad city, and the effects of Ethanol and Dettol of P. aeruginosa biofilm.
Design/methodology/approach
Seventy swabs were collected from seven primary and secondary schools of Baghdad city, Iraq, during November -December 2022. Swabs were collected from classes desk, doors handles, students hands and water taps. Standard microbiological testing methods were used on the samples for isolation and identification. The ability of bacteria to form biofilm and the effects of Ethanol and Dettol on"preformed” biofilms was examined by microtiter plate with the use of an ELISA reader.
Findings
In 70 swabs from seven primary and secondary schools, growth was observed in 33 swabs as P. aeruginosa. Primary schools were higher contaminated than secondary and water taps and door handles represented the main source of this contamination. The ability of bacteria to produce biofilm was observed in 19 (57.6%) isolates and 14 (42.4%) nonbiofilm producers. As well as, Ethanol (70%) treatment of preformed biofilms led to enhance biofilm formation and revealed significantly greater staining after 4 and 24h than Dettol (3%) compared to an untreated control (tryptic soy broth (TSB) incubation).
Originality/value
Studies on P. aeruginosa in Iraqi schools are quite rare. This work is considered distinctive because it drew attention to the presence of pathogenic bacteria within primary and secondary schools, which are not considered their natural environment.

Abstract
Purpose
The constitutive models determine the mechanical response to the defined loading based on model parameters. In this paper, the inverse problem is researched, i.e. the identification of the model parameters based on the loading and responses of the material. The conventional methods for determining the parameters of constitutive models often demand significant computational time or extensive model knowledge for manual calibration. The aim of this paper is to introduce an alternative method, based on artificial neural networks, for determining the parameters of a viscoplastic model.
Design/methodology/approach
An artificial neural network was proposed to determine nine material parameters of a viscoplastic model using data from three half-life hysteresis loops. The proposed network was used to determine the material parameters from uniaxial low-cycle fatigue experimental data of an aluminium alloy obtained at elevated temperatures and three different mechanical strain rates.
Findings
A reasonable correlation between experimental and numerical data was achieved using the determined material parameters.
Originality/value
This paper fulfils a need to research alternative methods of identifying material parameters.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to compile a comprehensive status report on pipes/piping networks across different industrial sectors, along with specifications of materials and sizes, and showcase welding avenues. It further extends to highlight the promising friction stir welding as a single solid-state pipe welding procedure. This paper will enable all piping, welding and friction stir welding stakeholders to identify scope for their engagement in a single window.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper is a review paper, and it is mainly structured around sections on materials, sizes and standards for pipes in different sectors and the current welding practice for joining pipe and pipe connections; on the process and principle of friction stir welding (FSW) for pipes; identification of main welding process parameters for the FSW of pipes; effects of process parameters; and a well-carved-out concluding summary.
Findings
A well-carved-out concluding summary of extracts from thoroughly studied research is presented in a structured way in which the avenues for the engagement of FSW are identified.
Research limitations/implications
The implications of the research are far-reaching. The FSW is currently expanding very fast in the welding of flat surfaces and has evolved into a vast number of variants because of its advantages and versatility. The application of FSW is coming up late but catching up fast, and as a late starter, the outcomes of such a review paper may support stake holders to expand the application of this process from pipe welding to pipe manufacturing, cladding and other high-end applications. Because the process is inherently inclined towards automation, its throughput rate is high and it does not need any consumables, the ultimate benefit can be passed on to the industry in terms of financial gains.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the only review exclusively for the friction stir welding of pipes with a well-organized piping specification detailed about industrial sectors. The current pipe welding practice in each sector has been presented, and the avenues for engaging FSW have been highlighted. The FSW pipe process parameters are characteristically distinguished from the conventional FSW, and the effects of the process parameters have been presented. The summary is concise yet comprehensive and organized in a structured manner.
