The purpose of this study is to explore how gender influences peer assessment in team-building activities in China.

A nine-player Werewolf game was adopted to conduct the experiment. Nine abilities were defined to evaluate players’ performances. Before the game, players filled out a self-assessment questionnaire (five-point Likert scale). After the game, players evaluated other game members’ performances using the same questionnaire. Data were analyzed using linear regression.

The results showed that gender bias clearly existed in team-building activities, with men more likely to receive better peer assessment than women. In addition, when women presented themselves as actively as men did, they received less favorable evaluations than men, whereas their failures were more likely to be exaggerated.

This study may help build harmonious teams for gender equality, and we give practical suggestions respectively from the perspective of female employees, their managers, and their companies.

Garlic (Allium sativum L) is becoming increasingly popular as an important component in the culinary vocabulary of the cooks in this country. Humans are known to have consumed garlic for many millennia as a cure for a wide variety of different conditions. Its volatile components are reputed to have antithrombotic, antimicrobial, free radical scavenger activity associated with them. Its mythical medicinal properties are now being studied scientifically and some of the claims have been proven to be correct. Ten years ago garlic would have been difficult to obtain except in the speciality health shops or ethnic supermarkets: now it is freely available everywhere.

Although it depicts a Germanic warrior culture of nearly 1,500 years ago, the Old English epic poem Beowulf contains timely insights into leadership and motivation, trust, respect, loyalty, and sacrifice that could inform current leadership practice and teaching. To help reveal some of these insights, this study has three main purposes: (a) examine the character of Beowulf as a leader of his warrior band and nation; (b) explain the ways in which the hero Beowulf fits into the Conger-Kanungo model of charismatic leadership; and, (c) explore how the epic poem dramatizes risks of an overreliance upon a charismatic leader. The results of this investigation attempt to provide meaningful insights for practitioners of management, researchers, and instructors of leadership with a special emphasis on the pedagogical value of artifacts of popular culture.

Purpose ‐ This annotated bibliography serves as a guide for collection development and evaluation and readers' advisory tools for librarians and for any interested reader. The purpose of this paper is to locate and describe print and electronic resources pertaining to the horror genre for scholars and patrons, as well as librarians collecting in this area.Design/methodology/approach ‐ This bibliography surveys reference sources published in the past ten years, in order to provide an overview of publications focusing on the horror genre, and serves as a guide to understand this genre.Findings ‐ Reference resources in horror encompass the genre specifically and broadly, usually focusing on classic fiction and short stories in earlier years and fiction novels, magazines and online magazines in recent years.Originality/value ‐ The resources covered in this article survey both long‐standing reference resources as well as newer publications in the field. While not necessarily comprehensive, it provides patrons, researchers and librarians with a survey of useful resources, with factual information as well as a critical perspective in the discipline.
