Abstract
The term structure of KTB (Korea Treasury Bond) is empirically implemented and forecasted by the extended 2-factor CIR model. Pearson and Sun model. MLE is applied to estimate parameters. Using KTB prices forecasted by the model, strategies of trading and hedge between KTB, KTF (Korea Treasury Futures) are established. In this article we can see that Pearson and Sun model appropriately explains the term structure of KTB but does not fit forecasting KTB prices. However, the model well forecasts the direction of interest rate moving up or down. Through such a forecast‘ profit via trading KTB and KTF can be realized.

The purpose of this paper is to study the working characteristics of hydro-viscous clutch at high rotational speeds and obtain the trend of flow field variation of oil film.
Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study the working characteristics of hydro-viscous clutch at high rotational speeds and obtain the trend of flow field variation of oil film.
Design/methodology/approach
The FLUENT simulation model of the oil film between the friction disks is built. The effect of variation of working parameters such as input rotational speed, oil flow rate and film thickness on two-phase flow regime and transmission torque is studied by using the volume of fluid model.
Findings
The results show that the higher the rotational speed, the severer the cavitation is. In addition, the two-phase flow region makes the coverage of oil film over the friction pairs’ surface reduce, which results in a decrease in transmission torque for the hydro-viscous clutch.
Originality/value
These simulation results are of interest for the study of hydro-viscous drive and its applications. This study can also provide a theoretical basis for power transmission mechanism of oil film by considering the existence of a two-phase flow regime consisting of oil and air.

Abstract
Purpose
Workplace loneliness has become a concern in diverse work settings. However, workplace loneliness research is in its early stages of development and not much is known about the effects of it on organizations and its members, especially in police organizations. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships between workplace loneliness, anxiety, happiness, task performance, and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Data from police officers in Korea were used to test these relationships.
Design/methodology/approach
Using a three-wave time-lagged procedure, the study sample consisted of 227 police officers in South Korea from one regional police headquarters (Yongin Dongbu Police Station) and four substations in the Yongin region. The study tested parallel mediation of anxiety and happiness in the relationships between workplace loneliness and workplace outcomes using the PROCESS macro (Model 4) for SPSS 26.
Findings
The regression analyses with bootstrapping results indicated that police officers' anxiety and happiness served as mediating mechanisms linking workplace loneliness with task performance and OCB.
Originality/value
The police force is a very significant facet within society. However, research has not yet investigated loneliness in the police context. Thus, the study investigated the proximal and distal effects of workplace loneliness by associating workplace loneliness with task performance and OCB via anxiety and happiness.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to obtain diamond-coated mechanical seals with improved sealing performance and considerable cost. To achieve this purpose, the study focuses on depositing uniform, wear-resistant and easily polished diamond coatings on massive mechanical seals in a large-scale vacuum chamber.
Design/methodology/approach
The computational fluid dynamics simulation test and its corresponding deposition experiment are carried out to improve the uniformity of diamond films on massive mechanical seals. The polishing properties and sealing performance of mechanical seals coated with three different diamond films (microcrystalline diamond [MCD], nanocrystalline diamond [NCD] and microcrystalline/nanocrystalline diamond [MNCD]) and uncoated mechanical seals are comparatively studied using the polishing tests and dynamic seal tests to obtain the optimized diamond coating type on the mechanical seals.
Findings
The substrate rotation and four gas outlets distribution are helpful for depositing uniform diamond coatings on massive mechanical seals. The MNCD-coated mechanical seal shows the advantages of high polishing efficiency in the initial polishing process and excellent wear resistance and self-lubrication property in the follow-up polishing period because of its unique composite diamond film structures. The MNCD-coated mechanical seal shows the longest working life under dry friction condition, about 14, 1.27 and 1.9 times of that for the uncoated, MCD and NCD coated mechanical seals, respectively.
Originality/value
The effect of substrate rotation and gas outlets distribution on temperature and gas flow field during diamond deposition procedure is simulated. The MNCD-coated mechanical seal exhibits a superior sealing performance compared with the MCD-coated, NCD-coated and uncoated mechanical seals, which is helpful for decreasing the operating system shut-down frequency and saving operating energy consumption.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to deeply study and compare the dual and single hedging strategy, from the direct and cross hedging perspective.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors not only first consider the dual hedge of integrated risks in this oil prices and foreign exchange rates setting but also make a novel comparison between the dual and single hedging strategy from a direct and cross hedging perspective. In total, six econometric models (to conduct one-step-ahead out-of-sample rolling estimation of the optimal hedge ratio) and two hedging performance criteria are employed in two different hedging backgrounds (direct and cross hedging).
Findings
Results show that in the direct hedging background, a dual hedge cannot outperform the single hedge. But in the cross dual hedging setting, a dual hedge performs much better, possibly because the dual hedge brings different levels of advantages and disadvantages in the two different settings and the superiority of the dual hedge is more obvious in the cross dual hedging setting.
Originality/value
The existing literature that deals with oil prices and foreign exchange rates mostly concentrates on their relationship and comovements, while the dual hedge of integrated risks in this setting remains underresearched. Besides, the existing literature that deals with dual hedge gets its conclusions only based on a single specific background (direct or cross hedging) and lacks deeper investigation. In this paper, the authors expand the width and depth of the existing literature. Results and implications are revealing.

This paper aims to provide a 3D finite element (FE) model for dynamic simulation of cutterhead and soil interaction in slurry shield tunneling.
Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to provide a 3D finite element (FE) model for dynamic simulation of cutterhead and soil interaction in slurry shield tunneling.
Design/methodology/approach
Dynamic numerical simulation of excavation process is realized by combined use of submodeling method and arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) approach. The model size reduction, soil mesh refinement and stress state initialization are fulfilled by submodeling. The large soil deformations, failures and flows are handled by ALE approach. Computation time is reduced by parallel domain decomposition with recursive coordinate bisection method. Validation of the proposed approach is achieved by comparing the numerical results with monitored data from the model test for Yangtze River tunneling project.
Findings
The proposed approach proves to be an effective technique to simulate the cutterhead and soil interaction dynamically in tunnel excavation. Comparative study on the effect of mesh density indicates the requirement of relative mesh refinement. Exploration of the parallel computing performance points out the best decomposed domain for the simulation. Parametric study on the effect of rotary speed and investigation on soil properties presents the significant factors for torque.
Practical implications
The proposed numerical model can help in the development process of reduced‐scale model test, as well as design and selection of slurry shield machines.
Originality/value
The originality comes from the need to evaluate the excavation performance of slurry shield machine in tunneling project. This contribution provides a 3D numerical approach, which takes into account the stress state in soil and dynamic contact effects between soil and cutterhead. In this work, large deformation in soil is handled. Besides, soil failures and flows are captured.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to investigate whether the establishment of commodity futures can effectively hedge systemic risk in the spot network, given the context of financialization in the commodity futures market.
Design/methodology/approach
Utilizing industry association data from the Chinese commodity market, the authors identify systemically important commodities based on their importance in the production process using multiple graph analysis methods. Then the authors analyze the effect of listing futures on the systemic risk in the spot market with the staggered difference-in-differences (DID) method.
Findings
The findings suggest that futures contracts help reduce systemic risks in the underlying spot network. Systemic risk for a commodity will decrease by approximately 5.7% with the introduction of each corresponding futures contract, since the hedging function of futures reduces the timing behavior of firms in the spot market. Establishing futures contracts for upstream commodities lowers systemic risks for downstream commodities. Energy commodities, such as crude oil and coal, have higher systemic importance, with the energy sector dominating systemic importance, while some chemical commodities also have considerable systemic importance. Meanwhile, the shortest transmission path for risk propagation is composed of the energy industry, chemical industry, agriculture/metal industry and final products.
Originality/value
The paper provides the following policy insights: (1) The role of futures contracts is still positive, and future contracts should be established upstream and at more systemically important nodes in the spot production chain. (2) More attention should be paid to the chemical industry chain, as some chemical commodities are systemically important but do not have corresponding futures contracts. (3) The risk source of the commodity spot market network is the energy industry, and therefore, energy-related commodities should continue to be closely monitored.
