Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore the influence of constructivism on assessment approach, where the type of question (true or false, multiple-choice, calculation or essay) is used productively. Although the student’s approach to learning and the teacher’s approach to teaching are concepts that have been widely researched, few studies have explored how the type of assessment (true or false, multiple-choice, calculation or essay questions) and stress would manifest themselves or influence the students’ learning outcome to fulfill Bloom’s taxonomy. Multiple-choice questions have been used for efficient assessment; however, this method has been criticized for encouraging surface learning. And also some students complain of excelling in essay questions and failing in multiple-choice questions. A concern has arisen that changes may be necessary in the type of assessment that is perceived to fulfill Bloom’s taxonomy.
Design/methodology/approach
Students’ learning outcomes were measured using true or false, multiple-choice, calculations or essay questions to fulfill Bloom’s taxonomy and the students’ reaction to the test questionnaire. To assess the influence of the type of assessment and the stress level factors of interest, MANOVA was used to identify whether any differences exist and to assess the extent to which these differences are significantly different, both individually and collectively. Second, to assess if the feedback information given to respondents after the mid-semester assessment was effective, the one-way ANOVA procedure was used to test the equality of means and the differences in means of the mid-semester assessment scores and the final assessment scores.
Findings
Results revealed that the type of questions (true or false, multiple-choice, calculations or essay) will not significantly affect the learning outcome for each subgroup. The ANOVA results, comparing the mid-semester and final assessments, indicated that there is sufficient evidence means are not equal. Thus, the feedback given to respondents after the mid-semester assessment had a positive impact on the final assessment to actively improve student learning.
Research limitations/implications
This study is restricted to students in a particular university in Ghana, and may not necessarily be applicable universally.
Practical implications
The practical implications of this research is that assessments for learning, and the importance of assessment impact not only on students, but also on teachers and the literature.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the literature by examining how the combination of the type of assessment (true or false, multiple-choice, calculation or essay) and stress contributes to the learning outcome.

Abstract
Purpose
To elaborate the nature of fact-checking in the domain of political information by examining how fact-checkers assess the validity of claims concerning the Russo-Ukrainian conflict and how they support their assessments by drawing on evidence acquired from diverse sources of information.
Design/methodology/approach
Descriptive quantitative and qualitative content analysis of 128 reports written by the fact-checkers of Snopes – an established fact-checking organisation – during the period of 24 February 2022 – 28 June, 2023. For the analysis, nine evaluation grounds were identified, most of them inductively from the empirical material. It was examined how the fact-checkers employed such grounds while assessing the validity of claims and how the assessments were bolstered by evidence acquired from information sources such as newspapers.
Findings
Of the 128 reports, the share of assessments indicative of the invalidity of the claims was 54.7%, while the share of positive ratings was 26.7%. The share of mixed assessments was 15.6%. In the fact-checking, two evaluation grounds, that is, the correctness of information and verifiability of an event presented in a claim formed the basis for the assessment. Depending on the topic of the claim, grounds such as temporal and spatial compatibility, as well as comparison by similarity and difference occupied a central role. Most popular sources of information offering evidence for the assessments include statements of government representatives, videos and photographs shared in social media, newspapers and television programmes.
Research limitations/implications
As the study concentrated on fact-checking dealing with political information about a specific issue, the findings cannot be extended to concern the fact-checking practices in other contexts.
Originality/value
The study is among the first to characterise how fact-checkers employ evaluation grounds of diverse kind while assessing the validity of political information.

Purpose
With the outset of automatic detection of information, misinformation, and disinformation, the purpose of this paper is to examine and discuss various conceptions of information, misinformation, and disinformation within philosophy of information.
Design/methodology/approach
The examinations are conducted within a Gricean framework in order to account for the communicative aspects of information, misinformation, and disinformation as well as the detection enterprise.
Findings
While there often is an exclusive focus on truth and falsity as that which distinguish information from misinformation and disinformation, this paper finds that the distinguishing features are actually intention/intentionality and non-misleadingness/misleadingness – with non-misleadingness/misleadingness as the primary feature. Further, the paper rehearses the argument in favor of a true variety of disinformation and extends this argument to include true misinformation.
Originality/value
The findings are novel and pose a challenge to the possibility of automatic detection of misinformation and disinformation. Especially the notions of true disinformation and true misinformation, as varieties of disinformation and misinformation, which force the true/false dichotomy for information vs mis-/disinformation to collapse.

The assessment of risk of recidivism in sexual offenders is fundamental to clinical practice. It is widely accepted that, compared with actuarial measures of risk, unaided clinical judgment has generally been found to be of low reliability. Consequently, the literature has shown a surge in actuarial measures. However, a major difficulty in assessing risk in sex offenders is the low base rate, leading to an increased likelihood of making a false positive predictive error. To overcome this, risk assessment studies are increasingly using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC), which displays the relationship between level of risk and decision choice. This note summarises the methodological issues in measuring predictive accuracy in assessing risk of re‐offending in sexual offenders, and identifies from the literature both static and dynamic risk factors associated with sexual offence recidivism.

When such a repudiation has been accepted by the innocent party then a termination of employment takes place. Such termination does not constitute dismissal (see London v. Abstract
In this paper, we develop and evaluate an approach to assessing the content quality in a location‐based service (LBS). The proposed approach, instead of assessing the quality in absolute terms such as completeness or accuracy, measures the effect that the imperfection of the content is having on the reliability of that specific LBS. We apply the basic ideas from Software Reliability Engineering (SRE), but develop a modification of SRE, 2‐Branch, in order to separate content quality from other factors, such as positioning imprecision, and to reduce the measurement error. In our experimental study, we first compare 2‐Branch to the standard SRE, after which we experimentally analyze some properties of SRE methodology as such in the context of an LBS. The experiments indicate that 2‐Branch has in most cases a lower measurement error than the standard SRE. A corollary to that is that 2‐Branch can achieve, therefore, as low an error level as the standard SRE, using a worse and thus cheaper oracle. Getting a good oracle is probably the main cost factor in evaluating the quality of an information service, thus being able to use a cheaper one may result in significant savings.
