Abstract
In terms of continuum mechanics a twin is represented by the sudden appearance of a shear eigenstrain state in a distinct region. The corresponding elastic strain energy, the interface energy and the energy dissipated due to the irreversible character of the deformation process are investigated. If the total amount of these energy terms, spent by the twinning process, can be provided by the interaction energy of an external and/or internal stress state with respect to the twin shear eigenstrain, then either a deformation twin band or a twin nucleus may appear. Realistic estimations of the dimensions of deformation twins can be presented. This energetic interpretation of twinning is experimentally demonstrated for intermetallic TiAl.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to analyse how local agri-food systems (LAFS), compared to other production models, can offer innovative responses to the important environmental challenges facing food production under the twin transition. These responses are more conducive to community inclusion and local development.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper combines territorial development, clusters and industrial districts literature with studies on agri-food industry environmental problems and twin transition technologies to develop an agri-food systems typology. This typology is based on a territorial approach to environmental challenges of food production and serves to illustrate the ways in which LAFS can provide innovative responses to these challenges.
Findings
The study allows to visualise the differences between LAFS and other agri-food production models, showing how the operationalisation and implementation of digitisation occur at territorial level and how rural communities are involved in the process. The theoretical proposal emphasises not assuming that technology is inherently beneficial but ensuring that its implementation is inclusive and generates social value for the communities.
Originality/value
The paper aims to enrich future research by adopting a territorial perspective to study the twin transition challenges associated with food production systems.

Up to a few years ago the work in the aeronautical development department of the Brazilian Technical Centre had failed to achieve one of its major objectives, which was to produce a nucleus of trained aeronautical Brazilian engineers. This was largely due to lack of co‐operation from contracted foreign personnel and from opposition in some quarters where it was considered that the projects undertaken were over ambitious and unlikely to produce a successful production aircraft of immediate national use in a reasonable time period. The failure to achieve this nucleus team was a great disappointment to the Brazilians in their aim towards developing their own stable national aeronautical industry since this team would obviously have been the backbone of the envisaged industry.

Abstract
Purpose
Singapore is a small, densely populated city-state, which has become a prosperous global trading, investment and communications hub. In light of this, particular challenges have arisen in the development of its infrastructure to meet its needs. These challenges are met by harnessing private capital in the design, building, management and funding of the infrastructure. The purpose of this paper is to examine various arrangements in using private capital within key infrastructure sectors: mass rapid transit, roads, water supply, electricity generation and transmission, maritime ports and airport, ITC services, and industrial infrastructure, and to consider how full privatization, limited privatization (government-linked companies), direct government provision through statutory authorities (relying partly on private borrowing), and a mix of the above arrangements require infrastructure providers, even statutory authorities, to follow business practices.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper adopts an empirical, discursive and critical approach.
Findings
The Singapore government has continued to see its role as steering the economy into niche sectors where Singapore can acquire a competitive edge, and to overall facilitate economic development through active intervention. This includes, amongst other things, state-sponsored training and education, capital grants to start-ups, trade promotion, various fiscal incentives to businesses, guarantees for bank credit, etc. (Ghesquiere, 2007). This twin-pronged approach has been reflected in the development and management of the infrastructure. In line with the creation of a strong free enterprise economy, privatization and private capital has been a central feature of infrastructure investment and management.
Originality/value
The paper shows how private capital can be used through privatization and borrowing from the private sector to manage the infrastructure. This may be considered an appropriate means to meet the needs of a densely populated small state which is also a global hub for trade, research, investment and communications. It also shows how the harnessing of private capital can be combined with continued government control to ensure that the infrastructure development reflects public policy and adheres to required standards.

Political scientists have taken up behavior genetics (BG) at a momentous time in the science of genetics. Momentous, because the science of genetics is undergoing a paradigm shift [Petronis, A. (2010). Epigenetics as a unifying principle in the aetiology of complex traits and diseases. Nature, 465(7299), 721–727]. This shifting paradigm poses a significant challenge to both the prevailing methodologies of behavior genetics – twin, family, adoption studies – and one of the most noteworthy findings to emerge from such studies, that is, which we can call the principle of minimal parental effects. This is the supposition that the effect of the shared parental rearing environment on the behavioral phenotypes of offspring is statistically equivalent to zero (Plomin & Daniels, 1987). It is not uncommon nowadays to find twin, adoption, and family studies utilized in the study of political behavior (e.g., Alford, J., Funk, C. L., & Hibbing, J. R. (2005). Are political orientations genetically transmitted? American Political Science Review, 99(2), 153–167.); likewise, the principle of minimal parental effects is frequently invoked in such studies (e.g., Mondak, J. J., Hibbing, M. V., Canache, D., Seligson, M. A., & Anderson, M. A. (2010). Personality and civic engagement: An integrative framework for the study of trait effects on political behavior. American Political Science Review, 104(1), 85–110.). As we shall see, the challenge comes from recent discoveries in genetics that are radically transforming our understanding of the genome and its relationship to environment.

Abstract
Genetic risk for depressive disorders is poorly understood despite consistent suggestions of a high heritable component. Most genetic studies have focused on risk associated with single variants, a strategy which has so far only yielded small (often non-replicable) risks for depressive disorders. In this paper we argue that more substantial risks are likely to emerge from genetic variants acting in synergy within and across larger neurobiological systems (polygenic risk factors). We show how knowledge of major integrated neurobiological systems provides a robust basis for defining and testing theoretically defensible polygenic risk factors. We do this by describing the architecture of the overall stress response. Maladaptation via impaired stress responsiveness is central to the aetiology of depression and anxiety and provides a framework for a systems biology approach to candidate gene selection. We propose principles for identifying genes and gene networks within the neurosystems involved in the stress response and for defining polygenic risk factors based on the neurobiology of stress-related behaviour. We conclude that knowledge of the neurobiology of the stress response system is likely to play a central role in future efforts to improve genetic prediction of depression and related disorders.

The concept of a fuzzy language is applied to pattern recognition using geometric figures, chromosomes and leukocytes as illustrative examples. For chromosomes, an algorithm for classifying a chromosome image as an “approximate median chromosome,” “approximate sub‐median chromosome” or “approximate acrocentric chromosome” is presented. For leukocytes, an equal‐perimeter circular shape measure and an equal‐area circular shape measure are proposed, and various properties, results, and the relationship between these two measures are presented. Quantitative measures of other visual concepts such as elongated, spiculed, indented, slightly indented and deeply indented arc also presented and illustrated by examples. The results obtained in this paper may have useful applications in pattern recognition, cybernetics and fuzzy systems.

Health is considered as a nucleus to the life of a nation. Absence of it can create disharmony to an individual and society at large. Recent phenomena of COVID-19 pandemic outbreak which has penetrated into the lives of masses has caused major chaos and adverse effect to the health and wellbeing of people globally. No doubt that absence of health may create a magnetic wave to attract abundance of funds for the purpose of mitigating or dealing not only with such pandemic, but for other types of diseases that emerged as well. This is partially because wealth and health have an interrelationship that is hard to separate. This chapter primarily aims to discuss on how Islamic ethical wealth, i.e., waqf has the potential to influence the good health and wellbeing of people. Specifically, this chapter aims to provide a new model of waqf instrument to realize the concept of Islamic ethical wealth. The concept of fairness and justice in Islamic ethical wealth is used in this chapter. Such concept is crucial in distributing wealth and resources for the betterment of health and wellbeing of the masses. This chapter provides solution and suggestion to uphold the primary ethics in wealth through waqf system.
