Abstract

This chapter analyses the structure, content and development trends of the system of postgraduate teacher training in Russia. It is shown that the system of postgraduate training in Russia has a long history and consists of postgraduate and doctoral levels. The trends that influenced the dynamics and essence of the modernisation processes of Russian postgraduate education are revealed. The content, logic and shortcomings of the not quite successful attempt to standardise the process of training higher-qualified personnel in postgraduate studies are substantiated. Changes in the nomenclature of scientific specialties, which are used to award academic degrees in pedagogy, are revealed.

The main part of the material is devoted to the general characteristics of the current pedagogical postgraduate programmes in Russia. It describes the peculiarities of the admission procedure and the organisation of training for graduate students, the nuances of the choice of supervisor, the definition of the thesis topic, and the current, intermediate, and final certification of graduate students. The essence of co-doctoral studies as a form of dissertation preparation is revealed. The requirements for the preparation, design and defence of candidate dissertations in pedagogy are outlined. The form of advanced training of scientific and pedagogical staff for the preparation of doctoral dissertations is briefly described.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to present radical abolition studies, which encourages us to (re)member that the abolition of institutions and systems is incomplete without the abolition of their attendant epistemes of domination. The authors draw on the etymology of the word radical to encourage abolitionist praxis to grab systemic harm at its epistemological roots. Within radical abolition studies, this study presents Black abolition theory, which aims to make explicit a theorization of Blackness and works to abolish the episteme of anti-Blackness.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper offers Black abolition theory within radical abolition studies to reground abolition in its Black theoretical roots and to interrogate the concept of anti-Blackness and other epistemes of domination in abolitionist study and practice. Using a close reading of W.E.B. Du Bois’ Black Reconstruction, and subsequent books and articles in abolition studies and educational studies that reference it, the authors highlight Du Bois’ original conceptualization of abolitionism as an ultimate refutation of a racial-social order and anti-Blackness. The authors then put Michael Dumas and kihana ross’ theory of BlackCrit into conversation with abolitionist and educational theory to push forward Black abolition theory.

Findings

Radical abolition studies and its attendant strand of Black abolition theory presented in this paper encourages scholars and practitioners to go beyond the dismantling of current instantiations of systemic harm for Black and other minoritized people – such as the school as it currently operates – and encourages the questioning and dismantling of the epistemes of domination sitting at the foundation of these systems of harm.

Originality/value

Black abolition theory contextualizes abolition in education by rooting abolitionist educational praxis in Black lineages. More generally, radical abolition studies encourages further research, study and collaboration in partnership with others who have historically participated in the fight against being labeled as subhuman to upend all epistemes of domination.

Abstract

Purpose

Intellectual capital (IC) is an increasingly important strategic asset for sustainable value creation in organisations. This paper aims to provide a conceptual perspective on the university’s role as a catalyst for IC creation and development within the dynamic landscape of organisations, exploring the nexus to capture its essence.

Design/methodology/approach

Adopting a conceptual framework development approach, key concepts were cohesively and coherently synthesised from various theoretical underpinnings, namely, the multiple capitals approach to maximising corporate value creation, the evolved triple bottom line approach to corporate sustainability, the triple helix innovation model and its subsequent extensions, the upper echelons theory and the social licence construct linked to stakeholder, legitimacy and institutional theories.

Findings

A comprehensive conceptual framework was developed that outlines universities’ role in catalysing four corporate IC forms crucial to sustainable organisational value creation: human capital, governance capital, social/relational capital and structural/organisational capital. The framework interprets this role of universities as dynamic IC reservoirs serving regional ecosystems for sustainable development. It highlights the synergistic sustainable value creation between universities and organisations in host communities and broader society, with university governance acting as a key driver.

Originality/value

This paper offers a theoretically grounded interpretation of universities’ pivotal role in catalysing essential forms of IC to support contemporary organisations’ sustainable value-creation processes. The proposed framework has the potential to ignite conversations on the crucial connection between universities and corporate IC development relevant to sustainable organisations, inspiring future empirical research, reflection and discussion.

Abstract

Purpose

The competition in the academe has always been tough, but today, the academe seems to be more like an industry than an academic community as academics are evaluated through quantified and economic means.

Design/methodology/approach

This article leans on Heidegger’s thoughts on the essence of technology and his ontological view on being to show the dangers that lie in this quantification of researchers and research.

Findings

Despite the benefits that information systems (ISs) offer to people and research, it seems that technology has made it possible to objectify researchers and research. This has a negative impact on the academe and should thus be looked into especially by the IS field, which should note the problems that exist in its core. This phenomenon of quantified academics is clearly visible at academic quantification sites, where academics are evaluated using metrics that count their output. It seems that the essence of technology has disturbed the way research is valued by emphasising its quantifiable aspects. The study claims that it is important to look for other ways to evaluate researchers rather than trying to maximise research production, which has led to the flooding of articles that few have the time or interest to read.

Originality/value

This paper offers new insights into the current phenomenon of quantification of academics and underlines the need for critical changes if in order to achieve the academic culture that is desirable for future academics.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to reveal the knowledge evolution process, research hotspots and future trends in the inclusive tourism research literature from 2008 to 2023.

Design/methodology/approach

A total of 322 papers on inclusive tourism were selected from the core collection database of Web of Science and analyzed using CiteSpace.

Findings

Over the 16-year period between 2008 and 2023 an increasing number of studies have been published concerning inclusive tourism, but the overall base is still small. Among institutions, the Massey University and University of Gothenburg take the lead in international research on inclusive tourism. Country cooperation shifted from UK-centered in 2008 to Australia, US and Spain from 2010, expanded to more nations and recently increased with China, Japan and others. The essence of inclusive tourism is inherently linked to societal and generational development, necessitating the elimination of social exclusion and inequality to achieve sustainability. The research on inclusive tourism has undergone three stages, emphasizing tourism producers, consumers and stakeholder relationships respectively. “Employment”, “sustainable development” and “quality of life” possess the potential to emerge as future research hotspots.

Originality/value

By combining literature on inclusive tourism and other overlapping concepts, CiteSpace was used to construct data and network visualizations, including a burst and dynamic analysis for the period covered by the sample. The conclusions offer researchers insights into the existing body of work in inclusive tourism research and suggest directions for future research. In practice, tourism managers can gain a deeper understanding of the needs and limitations of marginalized groups in tourism, allowing them to offer more tailored products for inclusive tourism and further enhance the development of an inclusive tourism environment.

Objetivo

El objetivo de este trabajo es presentar el proceso de evolución del conocimiento, los temas destacados de investigación y las tendencias futuras en la literatura de investigación sobre turismo inclusivo desde 2008 hasta 2023.

Diseño/metodología/enfoque

Se seleccionó un total de 322 artículos sobre turismo inclusivo de la base de datos de la colección principal de Web of Science (WoS) y se analizaron utilizando CiteSpace.

Resultados

En el periodo de 16 años comprendido entre 2008 y 2023 se han publicado cada vez más estudios sobre turismo inclusivo, pero la base global sigue siendo pequeña. Entre las instituciones, la Universidad de Massey y la Universidad de Gotemburgo encabezan la investigación internacional sobre turismo inclusivo. La cooperación entre países pasó de estar centrada en el Reino Unido en 2008 a Australia, EE. UU. y España a partir de 2010, ampliándose a más naciones y, recientemente, ha aumentado con China, Japón y otros países. La esencia del turismo inclusivo está intrínsecamente ligada al desarrollo social y generacional, que requiere la eliminación de la exclusión social y la desigualdad para lograr la sostenibilidad. La investigación sobre el turismo inclusivo ha pasado por tres etapas, haciendo hincapié en los productores turísticos, los consumidores y las relaciones con las partes interesadas, respectivamente. El “empleo”, el “desarrollo sostenible” y la “calidad de vida” poseen el potencial para emerger como futuros focos de investigación.

Originalidad/valor

A partir de la integración de la literatura sobre turismo inclusivo y otros conceptos superpuestos, se utilizó CiteSpace para visualizar los datos y redes, incluido análisis de ráfagas y dinámico para el periodo muestral. Las conclusiones ofrecen a los investigadores una visión de las contribuciones académicas en turismo inclusivo y sugieren direcciones para futuras investigaciones. En la práctica, los gestores turísticos pueden adquirir un conocimiento más profundo de las necesidades y limitaciones de los grupos marginados en turismo, permitiéndoles ofrecer productos más adaptados al turismo inclusivo y seguir mejorando el desarrollo de un entorno turístico inclusivo.

Pedagogical classes within the general secondary education system in Russia have been practised for almost two centuries. They have been recognised as an effective teacher training method in complicated stages of national history and as a part of the vocational guidance of school students. Modern pedagogical classes, on the one hand, can be a significant element of the system of continuous teacher education. On the other hand, they contribute to the understanding of the meaning and content of the teacher's profession, and solve the problems of vocational guidance and professional identity. The purpose of pedagogical classes of the late 20th to early 21st century is to have students prepared for choosing a teaching profession and further study in teacher training institutions and universities.

Abstract

The relevance of this research is determined by the fact that the creation of innovative goods and services involves a set of marketing activities to assess the market situation. Intellectual leadership becomes the basis of strategic foresight. Understanding the horizon of opportunities for an industrial enterprise reflects the trends in the evolutionary development of industry markets and their respective competencies. The formation of key competencies contributes to the elimination of marketing myopia. In this regard, the authors identified changes in the main trends in consumer demand. The research aims to build a client-centric business model in the B2B market. The empirical basis of this research is the statistical data “Indicators of innovative activity: 2022” and the works of S. Yu. Glazyev, N. Nonaka, H. Takeuchi, K. Freeman, and F. Jansen. Based on the method of logical-structural analysis, the authors reveal the essence of the content of the category “innovative development of industry,” give a rationale for the main directions of innovative transformations of the industry based on the implementation of a competency-based approach in management, and determine the patterns of innovative development of industry in the context of building technological sovereignty. The practical significance of this research lies in the fact that strategic business thinking will create a condition for the formation of new functionality (a new product concept), which requires the development of new key competencies and the implementation of a strategy for advanced development.

Abstract

Purpose

The study aims to address the educations needs of Indonesian children living in plantations in Sabah and provide recommendations to the relevant stakeholders. Data was collected between January and March 2023 to identify and address the issues in relation to providing education for children living on plantations in Sabah. Specifically, children of Indonesian migrant workers.

Design/methodology/approach

The research was both a doctrinal and qualitative study that encompassed in-depth interviews with migrant workers of Indonesian nationality who have children living with them in palm oil plantations in Sabah and local managers of the plantations. Data was collected from the commissioning plantation, where the children have yet to go to school and two other plantations with school-going children. The doctrinal component involved the analysis on international and domestic laws.

Findings

Through the research, ways of enrolling migrant children in schools were determined including within neighbouring plantations, impacting the lives of children residing in the commissioning estate.

Research limitations/implications

The research was fraught with difficulties. Gaining the trust of palm oil plantation owners was key and this took some time. Time in essence was a limitation as time taken for interviews is time taken away from the migrant workers employment.

Practical implications

The commissioning estate has already secured the provision of education for the children of the estate. The research is impactful as it has facilitated this development.

Social implications

The hope is that more estates will allow for academic researchers to come in and provide systematic and constructive feedback on how things could be improved for children living in plantations.

Originality/value

Gaining trust and garnering data not only from migrant workers but also the managers provide novelty in the research. The views of the management side of things have not always been successfully acquired in the past.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to use the knowledge management perspective to examine the mechanism through which entrepreneurship drives firms’ technological innovation in the digital age. The objective is to develop a multi-stage integrated theoretical model to explain how entrepreneurship exerts its influence on firms’ technological innovation with a particular focus on the knowledge management perspective. The findings can be used for the cultivation of entrepreneurship and for the promotion of continuous technological innovation activities.

Design/methodology/approach

This study uses a case-based qualitative approach to examine the relationship between entrepreneurship and technological innovation. The authors first analyze the case of SANY and then explore the mechanism of how entrepreneurship can promote a firm’s technological innovation from the perspective of knowledge management based on the technology-organization-environment framework. An integrated theoretical model is then developed in this study.

Findings

Based on a case study, the authors propose that there are three main processes of knowledge management in firms’ technological innovation: knowledge acquisition, knowledge integration and knowledge creation. In the process of knowledge acquisition, the joint effects of innovation spirit, learning spirit, cooperation spirit and global vision drive the construction and its healthy development of firms’ innovation ecosystem. In the process of knowledge integration, the joint effects of innovation spirit, cooperation spirit and learning spirit help complete the integration of knowledge and further the accumulation of firms’ core knowledge resources. In the process of knowledge creation, the joint effects of mission spirit, learning spirit and innovation spirit encourage the top management team to establish long-term goals and innovation philosophy. This philosophy can promote the establishment of a people-oriented incentive mechanism that helps achieve the transformation from the accumulation of core knowledge resources to the research and innovation of core technologies. After these three stages, firms are passively engaged in the “reverse transfer of knowledge” step, which contributes to other firms’ knowledge management cycle. With active knowledge acquisition, integration, creation and passive reverse knowledge transfer, firms can achieve continuous technological innovation.

Research limitations/implications

This study has important theoretical implications in entrepreneurship research. This study helps advance the understanding of entrepreneurship and literature on the relationship between entrepreneurship and technological innovation in the digital age, which can broaden the application of knowledge management theories. It can also help better understand how to develop healthy firm-led innovation ecosystems to achieve continuous optimization of knowledge and technological innovation in the digital age.

Originality/value

This study proposes an integrated theoretical model to address the issues of entrepreneurship and firms’ technological innovation in the digital age, and it is also one of few studies that focuses on entrepreneurship and innovation from a knowledge management perspective.

Abstract

The research considers the issues of organizing strategic management accounting, sales planning, budgeting, and the conditions for introducing the methodology of the stabilized system. The author determines the essence and problems of the most essential indicators and provides relevant solutions. Moreover, in reliance upon the industry features, the author worked out the proposals for selecting the most necessary indicators and developing a strategic development map for the enterprises of the ferrous metallurgy industry. Thus, the research analyzes four methods of the balanced scorecard system. Based on the system of the most basic calculation indicators, the quantitative indicators are related to the qualitative data of the current situation. The measures are based on meeting the needs of the “Financial economic activity” aspect, the interaction of the enterprise with the customer, consumer counterparties, and main, auxiliary, and general production and management units, and increasing investment in knowledge and skills and training competitive staff. Moreover, the author developed proposals for implementing strategic management accounting regarding financial, customer, employee, and process system in black metallurgical industry enterprises. Additionally, the research presents an analysis based on the strategic plan, purpose, and mission of the management accounting organization. The efficiency of innovation-based development in currently operating enterprises is evaluated by the qualifications of employees and the quality of research activities.
