Abstract

Fruitzone India Limited (FIL) was the Indian subsidiary of the multinational company Gypsy Inc., the global leader in the beverages industry. The company had conducted market research to identify a new flavour of fruit juice that it could launch. After it had completed the confirmatory research, some questions remained unanswered. It went in for another round of validation through primary research, including simulated test marketing. This case is useful for participants in the Business Research Methods, Market Research and Qualitative Research courses.

Abstract

Fruitzone India Limited was the Indian subsidiary of the multinational company Gypsy Inc., the global leader in the beverages industry. The company was conducting market research to identify a new flavour of fruit juice that it could launch. The case discusses how Fruitzone India Limited conducted the exploratory research and then prepared to conduct a confirmatory research. The 12th South Asian Games were held in India in Guawhati and Shillong in February 2016, after repeated rescheduling. There were a number of challenges to organizing the games such as lack of infrastructure, legacy of corruption from past games, shortage of time etc. However, the games were held within 90 days of the announcement of venues and final dates. Sri Yadav, the Secretary, Department of Sports wants to understand the key drivers of success behind organizing the event. He also wants to understand how the success of Indian athletes at SAG could be leveraged for success at larger events.

The Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ) was founded as a Non-profit to support Indian athletes in their quest to win Olympic Gold medals by bridging the gap between the best athletes in India and in the world. The support from OGQ has been instrumental to India in winning its highest number of medals at any summer Olympics. Buoyed by this success, OGQ has set up a target of achieving eight Olympic medals at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. With OGQ relying on donations to support the athletes, the challenge is to market the Olympic cause by creating, communicating, and delivering the right offering for its donors.

Abstract

Wright & Company conducted a market research for ‘Fashion Destination’ to determine the consumer purchase intention for a clothing and accessories rental service. Based on secondary research and expert interviews, the consultants came up with a preliminary business model for the service. And through qualitative research they found that consumers indeed had a purchase intention for a clothing and accessories rental service. To validate the conclusion they conducted a primary research by administering a detailed questionnaire and prepared a codebook. The consultants now had the challenge to make an analysis plan to draw appropriate inferences vis-à-vis the objectives of the research.

‘Fashion Destination’ was a prominent one-stop shop of clothing retail in Ahmedabad which has faced business slowdown in the last 5 years. Vishal, who had recently taken over the management wondered, would renting of premium clothing be a good business model to get back to the business. While pondering over the issue Vishal did some secondary research had found that the Indian retail industry is growing at a fast rate and that the online rental service is an upcoming trend in Indian market. Vishal hired an external market research agency ‘Wright & Company’, before changing the business model, to clarify certain doubts regarding renting clothes as a social stigma, willingness of people to rent clothes, requirement of physical store, about target consumers and product assortment.

Narayana, the head of Market Dynamic's (MD) Telecom vertical was working on the data analysis plan for the research on the telecom project that they had done for CWP. CWP was a well known consultant and had conducted a research with MD to generate consumer insights in the telecom space. These would help bring credibility for CWP and help in business development. CWP had requested for an early delivery and Narayana was planning to work on the analysis plan himself as his chief analyst was on leave. This case highlights the importance of an analysis plan in research. Specifically, it illustrate the role of different tools in data analysis and familiarizes participants with various tools and their applications. Abstract

OGQ was founded by Geet Sethi and Prakash Padukone with the mission to support potential Olympic medal winners, in achieving their dream, with the help of all the stakeholders; and the vision to scout for potential talent and identify their needs. It had eminent personalities from sports who understood the problems with Indian sports and from industry who had a passion for sports and supported it. OGQ supported its athletes for the 2012 London Olympics through voluntary contributions and its athletes won four medals. For the 2016 Olympics, OGQ had a target of eight Olympic medals and was scaling up its support to athletes. Viren Rasquinha, the CEO of OGQ, knew that he had to focus on getting more contributions as he needed more resources to support the athletes. For this OGQ needed to review its communication strategy to the current and potential donors.
