Abstract

Purpose

The study aims to work on two objectives, first to provide a theoretical foundation along with ongoing trend in the field of green human resource management (GHRM) and employee green creativity (EGC) in the hospitality and tourism industry. Second, the study also proposes a conceptual research model to understand the dynamics of the relationship between GHRM and EGC for future studies.

Design/methodology/approach

The study uses multi-method approach, systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis is performed on published work on GHRM and EGC. This study initially shortlisted 52 publications from multiple databases, which was refined to 11 Scopus-indexed papers, which discussed both GHRM and EGC attributes in a hospitality context. VOSviewer and advance excel software's are being used to perform the analysis.

Findings

The systematic literature review concluded that very limited studies have been conducted on GHRM and EGC in the hospitality context and it has recently gained prominence during the covid pandemic. While bibliometric analysis also identified h-index authors with their co-authorship network, citations and keywords matrix and the changing trends in the domain of GHRM and EGC in hospitality and tourism industry. The analysis also highlights the individual and organisational factors influencing the relation between GHRM and EGC.

Originality/value

This study is the first to conduct a systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis on GHRM and EGC in hospitality and tourism sector. Moreover the paper also provides researchers with an in-depth summary of the available literature and a blue print for future studies on GHRM and EGC.

Abstract

Purpose

Medical device industry in India is a niche sector with few key players but it possesses huge potential for both domestic and international trade. In recent years, a number of regulatory relaxations have been provided to medical device manufacturers in India to enhance production and further trade especially exports. Though the industry is highly dependent on imports, the purpose of this paper is to identify key medical devices using the revealed comparative advantage, which can be exported from India by identifying new markets.

Design/methodology/approach

For the selected medical devices, India’s exports to the world and the newly identified markets are forecasted using the autoregressive integrated moving average model of regression.

Findings

It is seen that three major medical devices emerge to be the ones where India has the capacity and potential to manufacture and export. These medical devices are electro-cardiographs, magnetic resonance imaging apparatus and oscilloscopes and oscillographs being exported to the USA, Australia; China and the USA, respectively, which is rising in recent years.

Research limitations/implications

As the forecasted values indicate that there is an increasing potential in exports from India to the world of the selected medical devices, there is an urgent need to develop this industry and enhance exports from India. Very few studies have been carried out to examine and forecast exports from specific sectors or industries which is the need of the hour now.

Originality/value

The paper also provides suggestions to exporters and policymakers on leveraging the future export potential of selected medical devices.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of self-help groups (SHGs) in providing an environment for the empowerment of Indian rural women. The authors argue that the SHG empowerment strategy paves the way for the process of development of bottom-up empowerment of women. The authors argue that SHG is a systematic strategy and is not solely based on credit, but also incorporates many other dimensions necessarily required for developing an empowerment process.

Design/methodology/approach

A qualitative study was the choice of design due to the inherent inability of the structured surveys to understand women empowerment (Mayoux, 1998), as this study was basically interested in the women’s perception of their own empowerment. To explore their experience, a series of semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions were conducted.

Findings

The authors stand by the application of SHG empowerment strategy in India and go against the rhetoric statements that “top to bottom” approach does not lead to a significant bottom-up empowerment.

Originality/value

The survey was conducted by the authors in the vicinity of rural Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. Moreover, during the survey, it was found out that participation in SHG facilitates women to know the current state of disempowerment and provides them strength, capacity to come out from the status of drudgery, poverty and seclusion.
