Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of the study is twofold. First, it aims to analyse the impact of green human resource management (GHRM) on green employee creativity. Second, it further explores the mediating role of personal moral norms between GHRM and green employee creativity.

Design/methodology/approach

Through multi-source and multi-level analysis, data was collected from 46 managers and 315 employees to investigate the role of personal moral norms in GHRM and green employee creativity. For data analysis, multi-level structural equation modelling was applied using Mplus software version 8.6.

Findings

Positive and significant effects were observed between GHRM, personal moral norms and green employee creativity. However, personal moral norms partially mediated the relationship between GHRM and green employee creativity.

Originality/value

The study is first in itself to explore the interplay between the variables in a multi-level manner. The present study aims at addressing the urgent call by the United Nations regarding Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for three key SDGs, focussing on decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), boosting industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9) and supporting climate action (SDG 12).

Abstract

Purpose

Organisations encourage green creativity among their employees to mitigate pollution and achieve sustainable growth. Green inclusive leadership practices have a key role in influencing employeesgreen attitudes and environmental efficiency. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate how green inclusive leadership influences employeesgreen creativity. It also aims to analyse the intermediating mechanism of green human capital and employee voice between the relationship of green inclusive leadership and green creativity.

Design/methodology/approach

Data was collected through an in-person administered questionnaire-based survey from 312 employees of the manufacturing industry of Pakistan. SPSS PROCESS macro was used for hypothesis testing in the present study.

Findings

The findings depict that the perception of green inclusive leadership positively influences employeesgreen creativity. Moreover, the findings demonstrate that green human capital and employee voice play substantial intervening roles among the associations investigated.

Originality/value

This research study is novel because it is one of the scarce research studies to examine green inclusive leadership and employeesgreen creativity with the underlying mechanism of green human capital and employee voice in an eastern context.

Abstract

Purpose

The present study intends to study the role of green transformational leadership in promoting green employee behaviour via green employee creativity. The study will draw its foundation from resource-based view and social exchange theory, thereby providing theoretical underpinning to explore the relationship between leadership, creativity and green behaviour.

Design/methodology/approach

A survey questionnaire was prepared to collect data to examine the relationship among the variables. Responses of 82 human resource (HR) managers and 488 employees of Indian Information Technology/Information Technology Enabled Services (IT/ITES) firms were used for the study. A 2-1-1 multi-level structural equation modelling (ML-SEM) was performed using Mplus version 8.6 software.

Findings

The study reveals significant and positive association for first three hypotheses, i.e. the direct relationship between green transformational leadership, green employee creativity and green employee behaviour. However, the fourth hypothesis is partially supported. Green employee creativity partially mediates the direct relationship between green transformational leadership and green employee behaviour.

Originality/value

By examining how green transformational leadership influences green employee behaviour through the interaction of creativity, the research offers a novel contribution to the field of sustainable organizational practices, enhancing the understanding of leadership, creativity and environmental commitment. The present research addresses pressing societal issues, contributes to more environmentally responsible practices and enhances the understanding of leadership and creativity in today's socially conscious world. Such a holistic examination of these interconnected factors can lead to actionable strategies for organizations to navigate the challenges of environmental responsibility in a rapidly changing world.

Abstract

Purpose

The environmental sustainability of manufacturing firms may begin with employees' green initiatives. Consequently, there is a need to examine how green human resource management (GHRM) promotes green creativity among manufacturing employees. This study aims to ascertain whether manufacturing employees' environmental-felt responsibility (EFR) and work engagement with eco-initiatives (WEEI) serve as a serial mediation mechanism for the relationship between GHRM and green creativity. Further, the quality of green communication (QGC) moderated the link of GHRM with EFR and WEEI.

Design/methodology/approach

The data were garnered from 408 managers in Pakistani manufacturing firms and analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling.

Findings

The findings revealed a significant and positive association of GHRM with green creativity, EFR and WEEI. Similarly, EFR and WEEI demonstrated significant and positive relationships with green creativity. Furthermore, EFR and WEEI mediated the relationship between GHRM and green creativity. Moreover, this relationship was also serially mediated by EFR and WEEI. Additionally, QGC moderated the relationship of GHRM with EFR and WEEI.

Originality/value

Anchored on the self-determination theory integrated with a resource-based view, this study provides novel empirical evidence by investigating the mechanisms and boundary conditions between GHRM and green creativity nexus.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between ambidextrous leadership and sustainability performance. In addition, this study also discusses how ambidextrous leadership affects sustainability performance through employees' green creativity and green product innovation.

Design/methodology/approach

This study obtained research data from a questionnaire survey of 307 manufacturing enterprise leaders in China and used regression and bootstrap analysis to test the research hypotheses.

Findings

(1) Ambidextrous leadership positively influences sustainability performance. (2) Employees' green creativity mediates the relationship between ambidextrous leadership and sustainability performance. (3) Green product innovation also mediates the relationship between ambidextrous leadership and sustainability performance. (4) The intermediary chain constructed by employees' green creativity and green product innovation has serial mediation effects on the relationship between ambidextrous leadership and sustainability performance.

Originality/value

This study contributes to the literature on leadership and corporate sustainability by clarifying the relationship between ambidextrous leadership and sustainability performance. Meanwhile, this study reveals the influence mechanism of ambidextrous leadership on sustainability performance by analyzing the serial mediation effects of employees' green creativity and green product innovation.

Abstract

Purpose

Drawing on conservation of resources and social exchange theories, the authors build and test a theoretical model examining the association of environmentally-specific empowering leadership (ESEL) with green creativity as well as the mediating and moderating roles of green knowledge sharing behavior and green psychological climate, respectively, in this association.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected in three different waves from 265 employees working in three-, four- and five-star hotels located in major cities in Pakistan. EFA, CFA and PROCESS macro were utilized to validate the study's research model and to examine the hypotheses.

Findings

The results indicated that ESEL is positively associated with green creativity, and green knowledge sharing behavior is an effective underlying mechanism between the ESEL–green creativity association. Furthermore, this study’s findings suggested that green psychological climate moderates the direct and indirect associations such that the associations were stronger when green psychological climate was more positive rather than less positive.

Practical implications

The study provides important lessons to managers and policymakers about the benefits of ESEL to achieving green employee creativity within the hospitality sector and helps to contextualize the importance and relevance of addressing global challenges in light of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Originality/value

The study is the first to explore the green adaptation of empowering leadership, its effects, mechanisms and boundary conditions.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to examine the effect of frontline managers’ green mindfulness on their green creativity directly and through green creative process engagement (GCPE). Furthermore, perceived corporate social responsibility (CSR) moderates the link between green mindfulness and GCPE.

Design/methodology/approach

The data were collected from 592 frontline managers from the hospitality industry of Pakistan. The data were analyzed using Hayes’ PROCESS macro.

Findings

The findings indicate that green mindfulness has a positive relationship with GCPE and green creativity. Moreover, GCPE mediates the relationship between green mindfulness and green creativity. Perceived CSR also moderates the link between green mindfulness and GCPE. The moderated-mediation effect of perceived CSR is also found to be significant.

Research limitations/implications

The results imply that mindfully green frontline managers’ cognitive resources provide greater attention toward environmental problems and connectedness to nature, which encourages hospitality service firms’ frontline managers’ green creativity.

Originality/value

The novelty of the present study is the development and empirical testing of an integrated framework to investigate that when and how green mindfulness affects green creativity.

Abstract

Purpose

Using social exchange, signaling, job demands-resources and reformulation of attitude theories, the purpose of this paper is to propose and test a research model in which green work engagement (GWEN) mediates the impact of management commitment to the ecological environment (MCEE) on green creativity, task-related pro-environmental behavior (PEB) and proactive PEB.

Design/methodology/approach

Data for the paper were obtained from hotel customer-contact employees in Turkey and South Korea. The hypothesized associations were assessed via structural equation modeling.

Findings

The findings in Studies 1 and 2 supported the viability of the model. Specifically, GWEN partially mediated the effect of MCEE on task-related and proactive PEB, while it fully mediated the influence of MCEE on green creativity.

Practical implications

Management should invest and/or go on investing in environmental sustainability to send strong signals to employees that the organization really cares about the environment and is highly committed to the preservation and protection of the environment. With green training, empowerment and rewards, management can boost employees’ GWEN, which motivates them to engage in environmentally responsible behaviors.

Originality/value

The paper advances current knowledge by testing the relationship of MCEE, as appraised by employees, to their GWEN and green work outcomes. More importantly, the paper has explored the impact of GWEN in the intermediate relationship between MCEE and critical green work outcomes, such as green creativity, task-related PEB and proactive PEB. Further, the paper adds to the extant research by assessing the antecedents and outcomes of GWEN.

Abstract

Purpose

Developing new green services is critical to a hospitality organization’s achievement of sustainable goals as well as competitive advantage. This study aims to unravel the mechanisms through which organizations with green entrepreneurial orientation (green EO) can foster green service innovation.

Design/methodology/approach

The data set for testing these mechanisms was garnered from employees and managers who worked in hotels based in an Asia-Pacific market. A multilevel analysis was conducted on this data set.

Findings

The results revealed the positive nexus between organizational green EO and green service innovation perceptions. The results of the study further lent credence to employee green creativity as a mediation path for such a relationship. Furthermore, customer involvement was found to fortify the linkage of green EO with employee green creativity and the linkage of employee green creativity with green service innovation perceptions.

Practical implications

The results suggest to hotel organizations how to optimally translate their green entrepreneurial strategy into new green services that meet customer preferences and societal expectations.

Originality/value

This inquiry extends the hospitality management literature by linking green EO to green service innovation of hospitality organizations as well as identifying the mediation and moderation mechanisms underlying this link.

Abstract

Purpose

Employee green behavior can lead to a firm's green performance. However, green management research has not accorded adequate attention to the mechanism underlying green creativity. This study aims to investigate the influence of green human resource management (GHRM) practices on green creativity at both individual and collective levels.

Design/methodology/approach

Through a multisource, multiwave survey data obtained from employees of 3- to 5-star hotels in Kenya, the present study investigates how GHRM practices influence individual and collective green creativity. For the data analysis, we employed multilevel structural equation modeling using MPlus 7.2.

Findings

The study findings show that GHRM practices influence individual and collective green creativity. The proposed mediating role of the enablers of green culture (EGC) in these relationships was confirmed. Moreover, environmentally specific servant leadership moderated the relationships between GHRM and individual and collective green creativity.

Research limitations/implications

The study recommends that hotel management should embrace GHRM practices to nurture green creativity at the employee and team levels. The hotels management is further persuaded by the findings of this study to pay attention to the four EGC (leadership emphasis, message credibility, peer involvement and employee empowerment) which play a key role in enhancing green creativity among hotel employees.

Practical implications

The study recommends that hotel management should embrace GHRM practices to nurture green creativity at the employee and team levels. The hotels' management is further persuaded by the findings of this study to pay attention to the four EGC (leadership emphasis, message credibility, peer involvement and employee empowerment) which play a key role in enhancing green creativity among hotel employees.

Originality/value

We develop and propose an integrated conceptual framework by which hotels can deploy to nurture green creativity at individual and team levels. We anticipate that our study findings will elicit further research into the mechanisms that reveal the nexus between GHRM and other employee green performance outcomes in the hotel sector.
