Abstract

Purpose

It is scholars' great mission in this era to creatively develop new implications, paradigms and discourses of China's political economy and establish a theoretical system of political economy with Chinese characteristics based on the fundamental principles of Marxist theory and the practice and historical process of Chinese economic reform, through theorizing and systemizing the practices of China's socialist market economy construction. The purpose of this paper is to give some suggestions to establish a socialist theoretical system with Chinese characteristics.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper makes a comprehensive analysis of the principles, objectives, study objects, methodologies as well as the framework of the theoretical system of the political economy with Chinese characteristics.

Findings

Additionally, starting from the unity of opposites between public ownership of resources and resource allocation in a market mechanism, which is the fundamental dialectical relation of China's socialist market economy, the authors will adopt the dual dialectical analysis approach to discover and understand the duality features of the socialist economic system with Chinese characteristics.

Originality/value

With adherence to the mission of China's socialist economic system, the goal of China's market economic reform, and the perspectives of Marxist political economy, the authors must explicitly define the so-called Chinese characteristics and then summarize the dynamics and innovations during the evolution of Chinese socialist political economy with high theory confidence and theory self-consciousness.

Abstract

Purpose

By introducing the basic concepts and theories of the philosophy of information created by Kun Wu, and making some comparisons of the philosophy of information and related information theories between Wu and other scholars, this paper aims to have Chinese philosophy of information widely known and understood by more people in the world, thus promoting the international exchanges between Chinese and Western scholars on the topic of philosophy of information.

Design/methodology/approach

The main research methods used in this paper are the literature review and the comparative study. On the one hand, it reviews some related concepts and theories in Kun Wu's academic works of philosophy of information. On the other hand, it compares the thoughts and viewpoints of Kun Wu with those of other scholars.

Findings

First, Kun Wu is the first person who has established a complete and comprehensive theoretical system of philosophy of information in China; second, Kun Wu's philosophy of information is significant in originality and value, which could be thought as the intellectual quintessence of information age, thus worth learning. Third, with more international exchanges, Chinese philosophy of information created by Wu will surely be more and more influential in philosophical circles at home and abroad.

Originality/value

It is a very valuable first-hand material for Western scholars to know and understand Chinese philosophy of information.

This study aims to prepare a low-formaldehyde and environmentally friendly glucose-lignin-based phenolic resin.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to prepare a low-formaldehyde and environmentally friendly glucose-lignin-based phenolic resin.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors directly used lignin to substitute formaldehyde to prepare lignin-based phenolic resin (LPF) with urea as formaldehyde absorbent. To improve the performance of the adhesive, the biobased glucose was introduced and the modified glucose-LPF (GLPF) was obtained.

Findings

The results showed that when the replacing amount of lignin to formaldehyde reached 15 Wt.%, the physical properties of the prepared LPF met the Chinese national standard, and the bonding strength increased by 21.9%, from 0.75 to 0.96 MPa, compared with PF. The addition of glucose boost the performance of wood adhesive, for example, the free phenol content of the obtained GLPF was significantly reduced by 79.11%, from 5.60% to 1.17%, the bonding strength (1.19 MPa) of GLPF increased by 19.3% in comparison to LPF and the curing temperature of GLPF decreased by 13.08%.

Practical implications

The low-formaldehyde and environmentally friendly GLPF has higher bonding strength and lower curing temperature, which is profitable to industrial application.

Social implications

The prepared GLPF has lower free formaldehyde and formaldehyde emission, which is cost-effective and beneficial to human health.

Originality/value

The joint work of lignin and glucose provides the wood adhesive with increased bonding strength, decreased free phenol content and reduced curing temperature.

Abstract

Purpose

Polyurethane concrete has a high strength-to-weight ratio in the short term, and the strength-to-weight ratio stage during the maintenance period is critical. Freeze-thaw cycles have a noticeable damaging effect on the durability of polyurethane concrete. The engineering specification of polyurethane concrete with incomplete hydration reaction must be studied, as well as the development of internal structure during curing. In this paper, the polyurethane concrete tests were set up under eight distinct maintenance settings based on the climate features of the northern area and the service environment. The test results were evaluated to determine the effect of the number of early freeze-thaw cycles and the time node of early freeze-thaw cycles on the mechanical characteristics of polyurethane concrete, which revealed that the time node of freeze-thaw damage impacted the freeze-thaw resistance of polyurethane concrete susceptible to early freeze-thaw damage.

Design/methodology/approach

The early-age freeze-thaw damage polyurethane concrete was experimentally studied by controlling the time node of the freeze-thaw cycle and the curing environment. The test considered the time node, frequency of freeze-thaw damage of polyurethane concrete and the influence of subsequent curing environment and observed the mass change, relative dynamic elastic modulus, relative durability index, compressive strength and apparent damage of polyurethane concrete. The early mechanical properties of polyurethane concrete were studied by analyzing the change of numerical value. The microscopic mechanism of strength formation of polyurethane concrete was analyzed by XRD, FTIR and SEM image.

Findings

The closer the time of freeze-thaw damage was to the specimen hardening, the worse the mechanical properties and structure were, according to SEM photographs. For specimens with serial number of 12-groups, its compressive strength is only 82.39% of that of the standard group, even if the curing process continues after 20 times thawing, which increased early environment exacerbate strength loss in polyurethane concrete and also reduced freeze-thaw resistance. The findings of the tests reveal that curing can restore the freeze-thaw resistance of damaged polyurethane concrete. Curing in water has a better recovery impact than curing in air; the mechanical properties can be restored by sufficient re-curing time and good re-curing conditions.

Originality/value

By studying the freeze-thaw cycle test and test results of polyurethane concrete in different curing time nodes, the relationship between the mechanical properties of polyurethane concrete and the time node, number of freeze-thaw cycles, and subsequent maintenance environment was explored. Considering the special mechanism of strength formation of polyurethane concrete, the polyurethane concrete damaged by freeze-thaw has the ability to continue to form strength under subsequent maintenance. This experimental study can provide an analytical basis for the strength formation and reconditioning of polyurethane concrete structures subjected to freeze-thaw environments during the curing time under extreme natural conditions in fall and winter in actual projects.
