Abstract

Purpose

As the crystallization of Chinese wisdom and the shared wealth of all humanity, the Socialist Political Economy with Chinese Characteristics (SPECC) not only reveals the specific traits of SPECC but also indicates the general rules of the global economic development, showing both nationality and internationality. The paper aims to discuss this issue.

Design/methodology/approach

Being aware of the nationality of the SPECC is of great importance. It requires to integrate the basic Marxist principles with the realities of China, and meanwhile draw lessons from, not just simply copy, the strengths of other countries. The authors must adhere to the basic principles of the SPECC.

Findings

From the perspective of past practices, the SPECC has not only provided theoretical guidance for China’s reform and development, but has also given references to some countries, especially developing countries under reform and transition.

Originality/value

SPECC should be based on China’s conditions and practices, absorb China’s traditional cultural essences, draw lessons from other nations’ positive theoretical and practical results, propose theoretical viewpoints independently and initially, and construct a distinct academic system and discourse system. In this way, China would work to develop the characteristics and advantages of the SPECC, and contribute Chinese wisdom to the development and improvement of world economics and economics theories.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to promote the theoretical innovation of socialist economics with Chinese characteristics in these areas.

Design/methodology/approach

We must “excavate new materials, discover new problems, propose new ideas, and construct new theories from the practice of China’s reform and development.”

Findings

Giving full play to the government’s role in realizing optimal allocation of resources required for the public economy to better exert its control, influence and guidance, and at least assume the following three responsibilities. The first is to iron out the economic cycle. The second is to lead the industry to upgrade. The third is to ensure national economic security.

Originality/value

Some deep-rooted issues still need to be further studied in order to establish the scientific and practical nature of the socialist economics with Chinese characteristics. For instance, why is the theory of a socialist economy with Chinese characteristics summarized from the development practice in China a scientific theory?

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to highlight the significance of relationship quality factors (customer satisfaction, e‐trust, and e‐commitment) on positive word of mouth (WOM) in online retailing.

Design/methodology/approach

The relative importance of site characteristics in online retailing on customer satisfaction was examined and the relationship among customer satisfaction, trust, and commitment in offline was identified. This paper then proposes a conceptual model of the relationship among site characteristics, relationship quality, and WOM in online retailing. AMOS 5.0 was used to test for the hypothesized relationships.

Findings

All of site characteristics in online retailing have a positive influence on customer satisfaction. Communication of site characteristics has a positive effect on customer satisfaction more than the other factors (shopping convenience, site design, informativeness, and security). Customer satisfaction affects positively e‐commitment more than it does e‐trust. E‐commitment affects positively WOM more than it does e‐trust. This paper identifies the causal relationship among site characteristics, relationship quality, and WOM. Further, the relative importance of customer satisfaction in relationship quality of online retailing is examined.

Originality/value

Results provide important insights into the impact of site characteristics in online retailing on customer satisfaction compared to other previous researches. In addition, e‐trust and e‐commitment are identified as important antecedents of e‐WOM.

Abstract

Purpose

Open innovation communities are a growing trend across diverse industries because they provide opportunities of collaborating with customers and exploiting their knowledge effectively. Although open innovation communities can be strategic assets that can help firms innovate, firms nonetheless face the challenge of information overload incurred due to the characteristic of the community. The purpose of this paper is to mitigate the problem of information overload in an open innovation environment.

Design/methodology/approach

This study chose MyStarbucksIdea.com (MSI) as a target open innovation community in which customers share their ideas. The authors analyzed a large data set collected from MSI utilizing text mining techniques including TF-IDF and sentiment analysis, while considering both term and non-term features of the data set. Those features were used to develop classification models to calculate the adoption probability of each idea.

Findings

The results showed that term and non-term features play important roles in predicting the adoptability of ideas and the best classification accuracy was achieved by the hybrid classification models. In most cases, the precisions of classification models decreased as the number of recommendations increased, while the models’ recalls and F1s increased.

Originality/value

This research dealt with the problem of information overload in an open innovation context. A large amount of customer opinions from an innovation community were examined and a recommendation system to mitigate the problem was proposed. Using the proposed system, the firm can get recommendations for ideas that could be valuable for its business innovation in the idea generation phase, thereby resolving the information overload and enhancing the effectiveness of open innovation.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to identify latent classes of work values that influence the career choices of Korean workers through a person-centred approach. Because work values may be diverse in individuals, investigating the various combinations of those values will help understand individual's decisions to take, maintain and leave a job.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors used a total of 15,103 datasets collected at the national level in South Korea. Data were analyzed by using latent class analysis (LCA); a three-step approach was employed to address classification.

Findings

As the results of this study, Class 3, “seeking balanced work values rather than income,” presented the highest level of job satisfaction, whereas Class 1, “seeking job security and income,” exhibited the lowest.

Originality/value

Employing an assessment tool to identify the distinct combinations of work values that individuals possess and then providing them with appropriate training and development programs and customized Human Resource (HR) policies aligned with the classes will be essential tasks for HRD (Human Resource Development)/HRM (Human Resource Management) practitioners.
