Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to develop a mathematical method to analyze the assembly variation of the non-rigid assembly, considering the manufacturing variations and the deformation variations of the non-rigid parts during the assembly process.

Design/methodology/approach

First, this paper proposes a deformation gradient model, which represents the deformation variations during the assembly process by considering the forces and the self-weight of the non-rigid parts. Second, the developed deformation gradient models from the assembly process are integrated into the homogenous transformation matrix to model the deformation variations and manufacturing variations of the deformed non-rigid part. Finally, a mathematical model to analyze the assembly variation propagation is developed to predict the dimensional and geometrical variations due to the manufacturing variations and the deformation variations during the assembly process.

Findings

Through the case study with a crosshead non-rigid assembly, the results indicate that during the assembly process, the individual deformation values of the non-rigid parts are small. However, the cumulative deformation variations of all the non-rigid parts and the manufacturing variations present a target value (w) of −0.2837 mm as compared to a target value of −0.3995 mm when the assembly is assumed to be rigid. The difference in the target values indicates that the influence of the non-rigid part deformation variations during the assembly process on the mechanical assembly accuracy cannot be ignored.

Originality/value

In this paper, a deformation gradient model is proposed to obtain the deformation variations of non-rigid parts during the assembly process. The small deformation variation, which is often modeled using a finite-element method in the existing works, is modeled using the proposed deformation gradient model and integrated into the nominal dimensions. Using the deformation gradient models, the non-rigid part deformation variations can be computed and the accumulated deformation variation can be easily obtained. The assembly variation propagation model is developed to predict the accuracy of the non-rigid assembly by integrating the deformation gradient models into the homogeneous transformation matrix.

Abstract

Purpose

Libraries are currently undergoing a significant transformation, emerging as dynamic advocates for environmental sustainability, surpassing their conventional roles as mere repositories of knowledge. In today’s world, dominated by the growing climate crisis, these evolving institutions are poised to play a pivotal role in addressing climate change. However, they confront a range of challenges, including the need to establish sustainable operations, provide accessible climate information, engage diverse audiences and uphold ethical standards.

Design/methodology/approach

The research methodology used for this study involves an extensive review of literature. The authors analyze existing studies concerning green libraries and their role as catalysts for climate change action globally. This analysis draws from a variety of scholarly sources, encompassing articles, books and reports, to provide a comprehensive overview of the subject.

Findings

The findings indicate that despite the aforementioned challenges, libraries in developed countries worldwide have demonstrated noteworthy success through initiatives such as green building projects, community engagement programs, collaborative partnerships, expansion of digital resources, innovative climate literacy initiatives and a commitment to ethical stewardship. These achievements serve as a source of inspiration, fostering hope and spurring action as libraries empower communities to embrace environmental stewardship. They showcase the potential of libraries as catalysts for positive environmental change.

Originality/value

The originality and value of this research lie in its insights into the potential of green libraries initiative as a catalyst for climate change action. Ultimately, this study opens the door to untold literary exploration, revolutionizing the art of green library capacity in the ever-evolving technological landscape. To augment their impact, libraries are encouraged to broaden the scope of their climate education initiatives, expand their digital resources, cultivate strategic collaborations, prioritize ethical responsibility and implement thorough evaluation and communication practices.

This paper aims to discuss the role of Waqf as a means of enhancing financial inclusion and socio-economic justice in Nigeria.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to discuss the role of Waqf as a means of enhancing financial inclusion and socio-economic justice in Nigeria.

Design/methodology/approach

The methodology in this paper is that the data were elicited from secondary sources such as the Al-Qur’an, Hadiths and other empirical studies in the existing literature. The Tawhidi epistemology (Islamic world view) also has been obtained to deliver better understanding on the findings.

Findings

The paper implores Islamic societies to take advantages of integrating Waqf to support the financing needs of disadvantaged members of the Muslims communities, especially the Muslims, dominated northern Nigeria with a high level of financial exclusion. The Waqf funds if integrated and institutionalized will support the region by making the fewer privilege members of that community-engaged thereby economically and enhancing the financial inclusion. This will also lead to economic growth and socio-economic development of Nigeria.

Practical implications

The paper concludes by suggesting the establishment of Waqf funds to supports the less privileged people through Islamic Microfinance as means of enhancing socio-economic justice in Nigeria’s Muslims’ communities, which is negatively affected by the high rate of financial exclusion and poverty. This paper also provides critical suggestions on the ways the integration of Waqf funds will contribute significantly towards assisting Nigeria in achieving its vision of reducing the financial exclusion rate and may foster inclusive growth and sustainable development.

Originality/value

This paper is a conceptual study and, therefore, limited to the content of the existing literature. Hence, the future researchers may replicate and test it empirically for a more scientific justification regarding the roles of Waqf towards enhancing financial inclusion in Nigeria.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aimed to investigate the factors that influence job satisfaction of academic librarians in university libraries in Edo and Delta states in Nigeria.

Design/methodology/approach

The study adopted a descriptive survey design using 88 academic librarians in the university libraries in the two states. Total enumeration sampling technique was used for this study. All 88 librarians in the federal, state and private university libraries in Édo and Delta states of Nigeria were considered appropriate for this study. The instrument used for data collection was self-structured questionnaire, and all 88 respondents in this study responded to the questionnaire.

Findings

Five factors capable of influencing job satisfaction of employees – work environment, remuneration, fairness, promotion and training – were expatiated upon to ascertain their influence on librarians’ job satisfaction. The result revealed that all the variables significantly influence librarians’ job satisfaction which serves as stimulus for employee’s productivity and delivery of quality services to clientele.

Originality/value

This research is the first to ascertain the factors that influences job satisfaction of academic librarians in university libraries in Edo and Delta states of Nigeria.
