Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) can play a significant role in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) as they have the ability to reduce unemployment. Digitalization helps MSMEs in a number of ways, including lowering transaction costs, quickening access to information, and bettering communication with extended supply chain members. This chapter aims to understand the level of digitalization in MSMEs in an emerging economy such as Bangladesh. MSMEs in Bangladesh account for 25% of the gross domestic product and employ 87% of civilians. This chapter builds on qualitative data from 60 MSMEs from various manufacturing and service sectors such as textile, retail, food delivery, IT companies, etc. The interviews were semi-structured and followed an interview protocol. The length of interviews varied between 40 and 50 minutes. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. Findings suggest that counterintuitively the level of digitization in MSMEs is not low in Bangladesh. Many micro and small enterprises use MS Excel to help them manage customer and product data. Medium Enterprises use Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software for planning enterprise-wide resources. Some medium enterprises also use powerful data analytics software such as Oracle, Power BI, Google Analytics, Python, and SPSS. Results also reveal barriers to digitization in MSMEs, which include a lack of employee awareness, training, and motivation of top management. This chapter maps the digitalization levels in MSMEs in Bangladesh and provides implications for SGDs. The chapter also presents policy recommendations for improving the digitalization level in emerging economies.

RLG is a not-for-profit international alliance of about 160 members, including universities and colleges, national and public research libraries, archives, historical societies, museums, and independent research collections devoted to improving access to information that supports research and learning. Founded in 1974 as the Research Libraries Group by four visionary library directors from Columbia, Harvard and Yale universities and the New York Public Library, the consortium formed to allow research institutions to tackle tough challenges via collaborative action. Key issues were managing the transition from locally self-sufficient and independently comprehensive collections to a system of interdependencies that would preserve and enhance the capacity for research in all fields of knowledge and improving the ability to locate and retrieve relevant research resources (RLG, 1986). At its inception, four activity areas were identified for collaborative action: cooperative bibliographic control and access; effective mechanisms for sharing information and resources among member institutions; expanded and coordinated collection development efforts; and preservation of the collections, either in the original or surrogate format.

This research aims to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the social and macroeconomic conditions of East Nusa Tenggara Province (ENT) and formulate strategies, policies, and programs for post-COVID-19 economic recovery. The study used two approaches, namely quantitative and qualitative approaches, where quantitative was used to determine the impact of COVID-19 on the macroeconomic variables of ENT. Meanwhile, a qualitative approach is used to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on social conditions and then formulate strategies, policies, and programs to overcome the economy after COVID-19. To help researchers analyze conditions and formulate strategies and policies using SWOT and analytical hierarchy process (AHP) analysis, then create a model for the economic development of ENT after COVID-19. The results of this study are the economic growth of ENT from the business sector, namely the accommodation, food and drink sector, then the wholesale and retail trade sector, followed by the transportation and warehousing sectors. Meanwhile, the sectors that experienced significant growth were information and communication. In the social aspect, poverty and unemployment rates have increased. Economic development strategies and policies are improving the quality of telecommunications networks in tourism areas, economic digitization, providing internet facilities, and free learning tools for underprivileged students. Collaboration between academics, government, leaders, business actors, and the media for economic development through social enterprises is needed. The impact of this research is to contribute to economic development after COVID-19 in ENT.

This chapter aims to encourage and guide smart industry HRM-related research by addressing upcoming challenges developed using a job design lens.

The challenges are constructed based on a developed overview of the existing body of work related to job design and a description of smart industry.

The challenges are meant as an indication of the issues that arise within job design due to smart industry and, in so doing, suggest directions for future research in this specific field. Additionally, through laying out challenges for this particular example, the chapter encourages scholars to consider the possible impact of smart industry within other HRM areas.

Using a case study approach, this chapter examines two primary changes to global health education prompted and exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. First, is the acceleration of digital education into the typical global health classroom. Second, is the integration of transnational networks and partnerships between intergovernmental organizations (IGOs), nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and higher education institutions (HEIs) to create, adapt, and disseminate digital materials in fast-changing information environments. The chapter examines the potential positive and negative impacts of the proliferation of digital content created by IGOs and international NGOs that is being rapidly integrated into use in HEIs for Global Health. The growth of tools and access through these new partnerships may lead to increased access to global health information for professionals. However, these changes may have long-term implications for global health regarding equitable access to culturally appropriate and accurate information. Furthermore, there may be additional implications for equity, as the proliferation of tools may still leave out the most vulnerable that do not have access to digital platforms.

To investigate how the United Kingdom’s public museums, libraries and archives (collecting institutions) might, in the future, take strategic advantage of the dramatic changes in individual and social behaviours and expectations driven by the socio-technical determinism of the Internet since 2000.

The chapter summarises the evidence and outcomes of PhD research completed in 2015 that used the tools of hermeneutic phenomenology and systems theory to examine the current state of digital strategy within the United Kingdom’s collecting institutions and to compare this with the Internet’s fundamental drivers of change and innovation. The research sought not to predict the future, but to define the key opportunities and challenges facing collecting institutions in face of sustained socio-technical change to maintain strategic fit, delivering maximum value in the digital space.

The outcomes of the research demonstrated that libraries, like museums and archives, are ill-prepared to face continued socio-technical determinism. The key drivers of the Internet are single channel convergence, rapid innovation, instant two-way communication driving social interaction and dramatic change in the relationship between the supplier and the user. Collecting institutions, on the other hand, operate within vertically integrated silos restricting horizontal collaboration that has led to fragmentation of developments and constraints on strategy across and within the various institutional sectors. The major challenges that libraries must consider are summarised.

The research takes an approach that has never before been attempted, either in scope or depth of analysis. The conclusions may not make comfortable reading for practitioners, but they offer an agenda for new ways of thinking about how public institutions must change to sustain their strategic fit in a digital future.
