Peer support in the substance use arena has a long and interesting history. Many of the ideas for substance use treatment can be traced back to the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous and its mutual aid/self-help programme. However, as interest in providing care and support progressed, and research began to develop, other equally helpful methods of providing peer supports emerged. In this chapter, we discuss this emergence of peer support, and describe how and where this support is provided. The processes and relationships involved in peer support work and the operationalising of lived experience are outlined.

The training and education of peers represents an important milestone in the peer's journey to work within organisational settings. Historically, peer support occurred based on a mutual relationship whereby one peer often with more experience provided support and guidance to another. However, as peers began to move into organisations staffed by professionals, a standard of training and education became needed if peers were to be accepted. This chapter outlines these issues, as well as discussing the training standards, the academics and soft skills needed. Some of the challenges peers face during their education and their continued development will be discussed. This chapter will focus on the training of peers for mental health and substance use settings in addition to other emerging areas in social inclusion.

This chapter will provide an overview of the lived experience and peer support context and draws on the origins of peer work in mental health arenas. The recovery movement will be discussed and peer support will be put in context as an alternative/adjunct/complimentary role to the predominant biomedical model. What is the role of peer support in mental health settings? What is it that a peer does on a day-to-day basis? What are the principles and practices that a person with lived experiences engages in to operationalise peer support? What are the outcomes associated with peer support working and what does peer work look like when it works well? What type of settings does the peer work in and what teams are they a part of? This chapter explores some of the challenges peers face when integrating into teams and organisations. The dominance of the biomedical model will be discussed and how this can potentially impact on the peer's role in these settings.

In the present study, we examined how effectively online travel agencies (OTAs) handle negative e-word-of-mouth on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. We collected data from 497 participants using survey method. To test the hypotheses formulated from the existing literature, structural equation modeling was adopted in this study. The results from structural equation modeling indicate effective handling of the negative e-word of mouth (e-WOM) on social media websites significantly affects customer satisfaction and repurchase intention. The current research work provides insight into social media recovery efforts and service fairness when handling negative e-WOM. The study recommends that customers can distinguish the differences between general efforts and adaptive complaint-handling efforts, and dissimilarities may influence satisfaction, repurchase intentions, etc. Although empathy, apology, responsiveness, and paraphrasing are considered pioneer strategies in complaint handling, customers' negative e-WOM, and firms' recovery management, but the current study is among a few to categorize OTAs' handling of negative e-WOM and complaint handling efforts in the social media environment.

The global economy is facing a steep challenge from volatility, risk and uncertainty associated with climate change, pandemics, regional conflicts and trade wars which are unprecedented and overlapping. These crises are leading to macro- and microeconomic imbalances. The immediate effects like rising inflation, shortage of energy and fertiliser, food insecurity, loss of jobs and poverty are looming large, leading to existential threat. It is evident that decades of progress are at risk and pursuing sustainable development goals (SDGs) requires dedicated and customised efforts by the governments and other relevant actors, especially in the low- and middle-income countries (LMICS). The concept of circular economy is considered to bring a paradigm shift by reducing the dependence on natural resource extraction and decoupling economic growth from use of natural resources. Bioeconomy is another emerging field which deals with the use of renewable biological resources such as biomass to produce renewable biofuels, bioproducts, and biopower for economic, environmental and social benefits. Circular bioeconomy (CBE) lies at the intersection and is defined as the production of recoverable biological (waste) resources and the conversion of these resources into high-value-added products, such as food, feed, bio-based products and bioenergy. It has been estimated that the economic opportunity for the sector to complement or even substitute conventional ones is estimated to be USD 7.7 trillion by 2030 for food and feed waste products, and energy. CBE is perceived as a pathway for development and has the potential to target different SDGs directly like 6, 7 and 12 and SDGs 2, 3, 11, 12, 13 and 15 indirectly. This study explores the linkages of CBE with the SDG goals and provides recommendations to stimulate the sector.

Non-performing assets (NPAs) are classified as loans and advances which are in default, either refund of principal or interest payments are not duly met. This not only leads to dishonour of loan agreement from the recipients' point of view but also huge NPAs result macroeconomic instability and economic crisis. The financial crisis may create hindrances towards achievement of sustainable development of an economy. Keeping NPA in balance sheet portrays lacunae in management of the lender. The non-recovery of interest and principal reduces the lender's operating cash flow, which upsets the budget and drops the earnings. Statutory provisions, set aside to cover probable losses, reduce the income further. When the non-recovery is determined to be definite in nature, they are written off against earnings of the lending institution. Thus, presence of NPAs in balance sheet gives a distress signal to the stakeholders of the lending institution. Under this consideration, the present study will look upon some of these issues related to NPA management in Indian banking sector. The main objective of this study is to discuss the nexus between the NPA of Indian scheduled banks for priority sector, non-priority sector and public sector and the gross domestic product (GDP) of Indian economy for the time period 2005–2020. To study this objective, the ratio analysis and the trend analysis of NPA of three sectors and GDP of Indian economy over the given time frame have been done. Finally, some policy prescriptions regarding achievement of sustainable development after taking into account NPA management of an economy have also been proposed.

The COVID-19 pandemic affected entire humanity, sustainable development and international trade. Even if international trade is in the recovery phase, COVID-19 pandemic's adverse effects on sustainable development and trade continue to be experienced globally. Furthermore, break out of the war in Ukraine (WIU) further affected not only Ukraine and Russia but also other countries. Countries have started to experience adverse impacts of the WIU more deeply as this war continues. From the global sustainable development and trade perspectives, the WIU impacts' magnitude is affected by the significance of Ukraine and Russia's role in and contribution to the global economy and trade (e.g. agriculture, energy). All countries, including developed, developing and under-developed countries, have started to be affected at different levels due to the adverse impacts of this war. Based on an in-depth literature review, this chapter aims to investigate the WIU's impacts on global sustainable development and international trade. Furthermore, effects of the WIU on climate change and on the fight against climate change are investigated within the scope of this chapter. This chapter is expected to be useful to all stakeholders of sustainable development including politicians and researchers.

Peer support work is increasingly recognised as an adjunct support across various systems of health and social care, and is a core principle in trauma-informed care. Those accessing a wide range of human and social services may have experienced prior trauma. As such, trauma-informed care is a universal organisational model that seeks to realise, recognise and respond to trauma, while limiting possible re-traumatisation when individuals are engaging with systems of care. Peer support can play an integral role in supporting those who have experienced prior traumas. However, trauma does not exist in isolation and the wider environment influences, moderates and contributes to how an individual experiences and heals from trauma. Peers can play an important role helping to alleviate some of the environmental influences by helping to build the capacity of those that use health and social care services.

Crises and natural disasters represent significant challenges to business, straining financial and human resources. However, corporate philanthropy during these times can result in significant benefits to the reputation of firms, while assisting in crisis recovery. This research focuses on the 2016 earthquake in Kaikōura, New Zealand to examine consumer reactions to corporate philanthropy. Two between-subject experiments were used to test the proposed hypotheses. Our results suggest that consumers do not differ significantly in their perceptions of the reputation of a company when donations of money or employee time are made by the company to assist the Red Cross. However, if a company is not engaged in corporate philanthropy, its reputation is significantly lower than when it engages in corporate philanthropy. We also found that the reputational benefits of giving to corporate philanthropy are weakened when consumers are highly sceptical of underlying corporate motives. Finally, we found that companies who give, despite being adversely impacted by a natural disaster, are perceived more favourably in terms of reputation, when compared with firms that have not been hurt by the natural disaster. We discuss the implications of this research for both practitioners and researchers.
