Abstract
Many educational managers/administrators are experiencing a “quickening” of their decision‐making processes, due primarily to the globalization of education, fueled by the advances in communications technology and increased deregulation. Modifications in the timeline associated with the growing segment of online education leaves educational managers struggling with a means to maintain a rational decision‐making framework that provides a way to justify their choices under severe time pressures. Presents a decisional framework based on the notion of social time or “timescape”. The construct of timescape is captured by six dimensions: timeframe, temporality, (a)synchronization, sequence, emerging pauses/gaps, and simultaneity. Examines each of these dimensions in the educational context. Outlines, the implications for the use of the timescape‐based framework for online education strategy.
