Abstract

Purpose

The MoS2/graphite composite coatings modified by La2O3 through spraying technique were successfully prepared on the inner rings of spherical plain bearings. As a comparison, unmodified coatings were also prepared. This paper aims to study the La-modified MoS2/graphite composite coating experimentally and improve the tribological performance of self-lubricating spherical plain bearings.

Design/methodology/approach

The performance of La2O3 toward the friction coefficient, temperature rise and wear rate of the coatings was studied by a self-made tribo-tester under different swing cycles. And the texture, surface morphology and element composition of the coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometry.

Findings

The additives La2O3 refined the coatings’ microstructure and improved the tribological properties of the coatings. The oxidation of Mo + 4 to Mo + 6 was effectively inhibited. And the amount of abrasive grains, peeling pits and local cracks on the coatings surface decreased and homogeneous lubricating films formed, which were attributed to the existence of La2O3. The wear mechanisms of unmodified coatings were severe abrasive wear, adhesive wear and delamination wear. However, it exhibited superior wear resistance of the La-modified coatings to unmodified coatings, presenting slight abrasive wear and adhesive wear. The service life of bearings was prolonged under the protection of the modified coatings.

Originality/value

The paper proposed a new modified MoS2/Graphite composite coating for the self-lubricating spherical plain bearings. The investigation on the friction, wear and temperature increase behaviors and the wear mechanisms of the coatings are beneficial to prolonging the service life of the self-lubricating spherical plain bearings.

Abstract

Special education in China has lagged behind regular education for many years, however, the past few decades, the government has made considerable efforts to develop and improve the special education system. While the citizens of China have had a generic moral interest in disability since ancient times, the development of special education schools did not occur until American and European missionaries started schools for the visually and hearing impaired in the 19th century. The next major influence in the development of the special education system occurred with China’s Cultural Revolution in 1978. Interestingly, there is not any exclusive legislation on special education but in the 1980s, the government started Learning in Regular Classrooms (LRC), which is China’s version of inclusion. LRC has progressed rapidly the past two decades; however, the quality of instruction is low due to a lack of specialists, a shortage of personnel, inadequate funding, and limited technology as well as other barriers that are delineated in the chapter. The chapter emphasizes the government’s recent efforts in in-service teacher training, the preparation of preservice teachers, working with families, developing community rehabilitation training programs, and implementing evidence-based practices. Special education in China today is at a good place but it has quite a way from the ideal situation.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to propose a DC-port voltage balance strategy realizing it by logic combination modulation (LCM). This voltage balance strategy is brief and high efficient, which can be used in many power electronic devices adopting the cascaded H-bridge rectifier (CHBR) such as power electronic transformer (PET).

Design/methodology/approach

The CHBR is typically as a core component in the power electronic devices to implement the voltage or current conversion. The modulation method presented here is aiming to solve the voltage imbalance problem occurred in the CHBR with more stable work station and higher reliability in ordinary operating conditions. In particular, by changing the switch states smoothly and quickly, the DC-port voltage can be controlled as the ideal value even one of the modules in CHBR is facing the load-removed problem.

Findings

By using the voltage balance strategy of LCM, the problem of voltage imbalance occurring in three-phase cascaded rectifiers has been solved properly. With the lower modulation depth, the efficiency of the strategy is shown to be better and stronger. The strategy can work reliably and quickly no matter facing the problem as load-removed change or the ordinary operating conditions.

Research limitations/implications

The limitation of the proposed DC-port voltage balance strategy is calculated and proved, in a three-module CHBR, the LCM could balance the DC-port voltage while one module facing the load-removed situation under 0.83 modulation depth.

Originality/value

This paper provides a useful and particular voltage balance strategy which can be used in the topology of three-phase cascaded rectifier. The value of the strategy is that a brief and reliable voltage balance method in the power electronic devices can be achieved. What is more, facing the problem, such as load-removed, in outport, the strategy can response quickly with no switch jump and switch frequency rising.

To enrich the research on the economic consequences of enterprise digital development from the perspective of capacity utilization.

Abstract

Purpose

To enrich the research on the economic consequences of enterprise digital development from the perspective of capacity utilization.

Design/methodology/approach

Using a sample of listed firms from 2010 to 2020, this paper exploits text analysis of annual reports to construct a proxy for enterprise digital development.

Findings

Results show that enterprise digital development not only improves their own capacity utilization but also generates a positive spillover effect on the capacity utilization of peer firms and firms in the supply chain. Next, based on the incomplete information about market demand and potential competitors when making capacity-building decisions, the mechanism tests show that improving the accuracy of market forecasts and reducing investment surges are potential channels behind the baseline results. Cross-sectional tests show the baseline result is more pronounced when industries are highly homogeneous and when firms have access to less information.

Originality/value

This paper contributes to the research related to the economic consequences of digital development. With the development of the digital economy, the real effects of enterprise digital development have also triggered extensive interest and exploration. Existing studies mainly examine the impact on physical operations, such as specialization division of labor, innovation activities, business performance or total factor productivity (Huang, Yu, & Zhang, 2019; Yuan, Xiao, Geng, & Sheng, 2021; Wang, Kuang, & Shao, 2017; Li, Liu, & Shao, 2021; Zhao, Wang, & Li, 2021). These studies measure the economic benefits from the perspective of the supply (output) side but neglect the importance of the supply system to adapt to the actual market demand. In contrast, this paper focuses on capacity utilization, aimed at estimating the net economic effect of digital development by considering the supply-demand fit scenario. Thus, our findings enrich the relevant studies on the potential consequences of digital development.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to analyze the shear strength and fracture mechanism of full Cu-Sn IMCs joints with different Cu3Sn proportion and joints with the conventional interfacial structure in electronic packaging.

Design/methodology/approach

The Cu-Sn IMCs joints with different Cu3Sn proportion were fabricated through soldering Cu-6 μm Sn-Cu sandwich structure under the extended soldering time and suitable pressure. The joints of conventional interfacial structure were fabricated through soldering Cu-100 μm Sn-Cu sandwich structure. After the shear test was conducted, the fracture mechanism of different joints was studied through observing the cross-sectional fracture morphology and top-view fracture morphology of sheared joints.

Findings

The strength of joints with the conventional interfacial structure was 26.6 MPa, while the strength of full Cu-Sn IMCs joints with 46.7, 60.6, 76.7 and 100 per cent Cu3Sn was, respectively, 33.5, 39.7, 45.7 and 57.9 MPa. The detailed reason for the strength of joints showing such regularity was proposed. For the joint of conventional interfacial structure, the microvoids accumulation fracture happened within the Sn solder. However, for the full Cu-Sn IMCs joint with 46.7 per cent Cu3Sn, the cleavage fracture happened within the Cu6Sn5. As the Cu3Sn proportion increased to 60.6 per cent, the inter-granular fracture, which resulted in the interfacial delamination of Cu3Sn and Cu6Sn5, occurred along the Cu3Sn/Cu6Sn5 interface, while the cleavage fracture happened within the Cu6Sn5. Then, with the Cu3Sn proportion increasing to 76.7 per cent, the cleavage fracture happened within the Cu6Sn5, while the transgranular fracture happened within the Cu3Sn. The inter-granular fracture, which led to the interfacial delamination of Cu3Sn and Cu, happened along the Cu/Cu3Sn interface. For the full Cu3Sn joint, the cleavage fracture happened within the Cu3Sn.

Originality/value

The shear strength and fracture mechanism of full Cu-Sn IMCs joints was systematically studied. A direct comparison regarding the shear strength and fracture mechanism between the full Cu-Sn IMCs joints and joints with the conventional interfacial structure was conducted.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to propose a consensus model that considers dynamic trust and the hesitation degree of the expert's evaluation, and the model can provide personalized adjustment advice to inconsistent experts.

Design/methodology/approach

The trust degree between experts will be affected by the decision-making environment or the behavior of other experts. Therefore, based on the psychological “similarity-attraction paradigm”, an adjustment method for the trust degree between experts is proposed. In addition, we proposed a method to measure the hesitation degree of the expert's evaluation under the multi-granular probabilistic linguistic environment. Based on the hesitation degree of evaluation and trust degree, a method for determining the importance degree of experts is proposed. In the feedback mechanism, we presented a personalized adjustment mechanism that can provide the personalized adjustment advice for inconsistent experts. The personalized adjustment advice is accepted readily by inconsistent experts and ensures that the collective consensus degree will increase after the adjustment.

Findings

The results show that the consensus model in this paper can solve the social network group decision-making problem, in which the trust degree among experts is dynamic changing. An illustrative example demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed model in this paper. Simulation experiments have confirmed the effectiveness of the model in promoting consensus.

Originality/value

The authors presented a novel dynamic trust consensus model based on the expert's hesitation degree and a personalized adjustment mechanism under the multi-granular probabilistic linguistic environment. The model can solve a variety of social network group decision-making problems.

Abstract

Purpose

The number of construction dispute cases has maintained a high growth trend in recent years. The effective exploration and management of construction contract risk can directly promote the overall performance of the project life cycle. The miss of clauses may result in a failure to match with standard contracts. If the contract, modified by the owner, omits key clauses, potential disputes may lead to contractors paying substantial compensation. Therefore, the identification of construction project contract missing clauses has heavily relied on the manual review technique, which is inefficient and highly restricted by personnel experience. The existing intelligent means only work for the contract query and storage. It is urgent to raise the level of intelligence for contract clause management. Therefore, this paper aims to propose an intelligent method to detect construction project contract missing clauses based on Natural Language Processing (NLP) and deep learning technology.

Design/methodology/approach

A complete classification scheme of contract clauses is designed based on NLP. First, construction contract texts are pre-processed and converted from unstructured natural language into structured digital vector form. Following the initial categorization, a multi-label classification of long text construction contract clauses is designed to preliminary identify whether the clause labels are missing. After the multi-label clause missing detection, the authors implement a clause similarity algorithm by creatively integrating the image detection thought, MatchPyramid model, with BERT to identify missing substantial content in the contract clauses.

Findings

1,322 construction project contracts were tested. Results showed that the accuracy of multi-label classification could reach 93%, the accuracy of similarity matching can reach 83%, and the recall rate and F1 mean of both can reach more than 0.7. The experimental results verify the feasibility of intelligently detecting contract risk through the NLP-based method to some extent.

Originality/value

NLP is adept at recognizing textual content and has shown promising results in some contract processing applications. However, the mostly used approaches of its utilization for risk detection in construction contract clauses predominantly are rule-based, which encounter challenges when handling intricate and lengthy engineering contracts. This paper introduces an NLP technique based on deep learning which reduces manual intervention and can autonomously identify and tag types of contractual deficiencies, aligning with the evolving complexities anticipated in future construction contracts. Moreover, this method achieves the recognition of extended contract clause texts. Ultimately, this approach boasts versatility; users simply need to adjust parameters such as segmentation based on language categories to detect omissions in contract clauses of diverse languages.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to provide a method for classifying travellers’ requirements to help hoteliers understand travellers’ requirements and improve hotel services. Specifically, this study develops a strength-frequency Kano (SF-Kano) model to classify the requirements expressed by travellers in online reviews.

Design/methodology/approach

The strength and frequency of travellers’ requirements are determined through sentiment and statistical analyses of the 13,217 crawled online reviews. The proposed method considering the interaction between strength and frequency is proposed to classify the different travellers’ requirements.

Findings

This study identifies 13 travellers’ requirements by mining online reviews. According to the results of the improved Kano model, the six travellers’ requirements belong to one-dimensional requirements; two travellers’ requirements belong to must-be requirements; three travellers’ requirements belong to attractive requirements; two travellers’ requirements belong to indifferent requirements.

Research limitations/implications

Results of this research can guide hoteliers to address hotel service improvement strategies according to the types of travellers’ requirements. This study can also expand the analysis scope of hotel online reviews and provide a reference for hoteliers to understand travellers’ requirements.

Originality/value

By mining online reviews, this study proposes an SF-Kano model to classify travellers’ requirements by considering both the strength and frequency of requirements. This study uses the optimisation model to determine the classification thresholds. This process maximises travellers’ satisfaction at the lowest cost. The classification results of travellers’ requirements can help hoteliers gain a deeper understanding of travellers’ requirements and prioritise service improvements.
