Abstract
The social categories “Hutu” and “Tutsi” have long been central to Rwandan politics, though never more so than during the 1994 genocide, when they formed the ultimate divide: kill (Hutu) or be killed (Tutsi). Since then, the Rwandan government has sought to eliminate these categories and replace them with a new, national identity category of “Rwandan.” This chapter draws on theories of state symbolic power and legibility to analyze how top-down projects of remaking Rwandans are being received from below. Specifically, we examine ordinary Rwandans' responses to gacaca, a community justice practice central to the state's National Unity and Reconciliation Program, and find Rwandans resent efforts to “unmake race” in favor of “nation” because the state's account of genocide in gacaca does not allow them to sincerely express their experiences; it activates traumatic pasts for what they feel is superficial national reconciliation; and it detracts from their material needs. These findings highlight the importance of distinguishing between compliance and conviction in research on state efforts to transform civilian subjectivities. They also suggest directions for further research. Namely, future research on state symbolic power should attend to how individual experiences with violence mediate top-down efforts at remaking civilian subjectivities, to how different forms of governance shape civilian resistance to state categorization and classification projects, and to what kinds of interests are likely to motivate people to alter their self-perceptions. We conclude by arguing for more work on state race and nation-making from the perspectives of its targets.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to highlight both the value and critiques of Erving Goffman’s conceptualization of stigma as well as the emotion work needed to learn the lessons it has to teach.
Methodology/approach
I use a personal narrative grounded in my experience as a member of the “wise” category (the mother of a young woman with cerebral palsy) and observations of the reactions of my disabled students as a vehicle for taking the reader inside the experience of the trials and tribulations of reading Goffman as a member of “marked” social categories and the more humanizing experience of reading Spencer Cahill’s work.
Findings
There remains much to be learned from reading Goffman’s Stigma. In many ways his work has set the stage for approaches to the study of disability that we are still discovering. Learning these lessons through is made difficult by the de-humanizing perspective Goffman brings to the work. He clearly locates himself and his readers in the category of “we the normals” who see the stigmatized as “not quite fully human.” For disabled students and scholars and their families, reading Goffman requires a good deal of emotion management. Reading Spencer Cahill’s work can help in that process. Goffman presents disabled students and scholars and their family members with confirmation of what we know to be true about our marked and not quite human status in the eyes of others and in the process gives us our “own.” Cahill helps us all see ourselves in the strangeness that is inside social life. There is great value in both.

Abstract
The Edmund Edelman Children’s Court is a juvenile dependency courthouse in Los Angeles designed with bright murals, open play spaces, and modified courtrooms to be “child-sensitive” and “family-friendly.” Through a recounting of the political and cultural forces at play building up to its construction, I argue that the decisions to build a “child-sensitive” court confirm the carceral containment of the culpable black adult. This article represents an inquiry into the cultural logic of the court’s construction, revealing the relationship between raced constructions of innocence and guilt. This study draws from five months of fieldwork conducted in the Edelman Children’s Court.

Abstract
Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are important assets for the economic sustainability in Indonesia. The sector has an important role in encouraging economic growth and supporting the creation of new jobs for the Indonesian population. When Indonesia was facing the economic crisis situation, MSMEs remained and stood strong. In fact, the data shows an increasing number of MSMEs. Despite their contribution to Indonesia’s economies, it turns out that MSMEs still have very basic problems. The results of previous research indicate that MSMEs still face various problems related to financial management caused by a lack of managerial and financial knowledge. There are many cash flow problems faced by MSMEs that are in line with the lack of knowledge and understanding of financial management by MSME actors. This indicates that owners or managers of MSMEs need to have sufficient financial literacy. Understanding of financial literacy is paramount for business actors and can be utilized for instance to prepare financial statements that can be used to obtain funds. In the context of MSMEs, owners or managers need to have financial knowledge related to financial access and also for a company business to grow well. This study aims to analyze the financial literacy of owners or managers and its impact on access to finance and growth of the MSMEs in West Java, Indonesia. The samples of this research are MSMEs’ owners or managers of various business types. Data concerning Financial Literacy, Access to Finance, and Growth of the MSMEs are obtained through questionnaires. The obtained data were processed using Structural Equation Modeling to ensure the relationships between research variables. The results of the research analysis show depictions of the financial literacy, financial access, and growth of MSMEs in West Java, Indonesia. The results of the study support the previous studies and theories that Financial Literacy has a positive effect on Access to Finance and Growth of MSMEs, and Access to Finance also has a positive effect on Growth of MSMEs.

This chapter examines the topic of internal branding from an organizational/behavioral science perspective, theoretically and empirically investigating how organizational members actually enact corporate brands. A mixed-method research procedure serves to surface conscious (i.e., deliberate) and unconscious (i.e., tacit) internal brand meaning enactments in an internationally operating Austrian corporate business-to-business (B2B) brand. The results are an evidence of the potential complexity of real-life internal branding processes that limit the possibility of achieving a cohesive intended internal implementation of corporate brands. The chapter concludes with the managerial implication that purposeful managerial interventions necessitate an understanding of the social system that is the target of the internal branding initiative
