The purpose of this paper is to illustrate an Inclusive Digital Literacy Framework for vulnerable populations in rural areas under the Digital India program. Key challenges include addressing multiple literacies such as health literacy, financial literacy and eSafety for low-literate learners in low-resource settings with low internet bandwidth, lack of ICT facilities and intermittent electricity.

This research implemented an educational model based on the proposed framework to train over 1,000 indigenous people using an integrated curriculum for digital literacies at remote settlements. The model uses mobile technology adapted for remote areas, context enabled curriculum, along with flexible learning schedules.

The education model exemplifies a viable strategy to overcome persistent challenges by taking tablet-based digital literacies directly to communities. It engages different actors such as existing civil societies, schools and government organizations to provide digital literacy and awareness thereby improving both digital and life skills. It demonstrates the potential value of a comprehensive Digital Literacy framework as a powerful lever for Digital Inclusion.

Policy makers can use this transformational model to extend the reach and effectiveness of Digital Inclusion through the last mile enhancing existing training and service centers that offer the traditional model of Digital Literacy Education.

This innovative mobile learning model based on the proposed Digital Framework for Inclusion instilled motivation, interest and confidence while providing effective digital training and conducting exams directly in the tribal settlements for low-literate learners in remote settings. Through incorporating multiple literacies, this model serves to empower learners, enhance potential, improve well-being and reduce the risk of exploitation.

Purpose – Public debates about censorship laws largely focus on their desirability and the limits set on free speech. From a historical perspective, however, the logic and contradictions inherent in these laws’ implementation, as well as their evasion, also merit attention. This chapter places at the heart of its investigation the General Communist Notification (1932) in British India which prohibited specific kinds of Communist publications from import and circulation, even more so in a context of mass anti-colonial nationalism. Methodology/Approach – Using government and intelligence agencies’ archival records, intercepted documents of the Communist Party of India, legislative debates and memoirs, this chapter illustrates the censorship of Communist literature in India at two levels: one, it sketches a broad picture of the mode and extent of the censorship of Communist literature in late colonial India (c. 1925–1947). Two, by excavating debates and processes around the treatment to be accorded to books of two British Communist writers, John Strachey and R. P. Dutt, it reveals the constraints and dilemmas of censorship of Communist literature. While doing so, it brings both Indian and British voices to the fore. Findings – This investigation provides valuable insights into the operation of laws related to specific genres of publications, provides an assessment of the success of censorship measures, and highlights the repercussions of their failure. Originality/Value – By illustrating the limited success of censorship measures, as well as the dilemmas of censors and debates among them, this chapter urges for a more nuanced and multidimensional understanding of the operation of censorship, particularly in politically fraught contexts.

This purpose of the study is to evaluate areas of application of internet of things (IoT) in the construction industry, with the view of increasing the level of usage of technology. This will help in understanding the areas where IoT can be applied in the construction industry for better improvement.

A quantitative approach was adopted for this study, and the adopted questionnaire was structured on a five-point Likert scale to elicit the opinion of respondents in the areas of application of IoT in the construction industry. The respondents included are quantity surveyors, land surveyors, builders, architects and engineers. Bar chart, mean item score, one sample t-test and Kruskal–Wallis H test were used in analyzing the retrieved data.

The results showed that building information modeling, construction management, remote usage monitoring, equipment services and repair, construction tools and equipment tracking are areas where IoT is mostly applied in the industry. Site monitoring is the only factor that has significant difference in the opinions of professionals, while others do not have. One sample t-test revealed that three factors out of 12 do not have significance attached by professionals.

The study gives insight into different areas where IoT can be applied in the construction industry. It also highlights how its application can be improved through workshops, training, seminar and conference for construction professionals to keep themselves abreast of information and communication technology trends, especially in the aspect of IoT. The IoT adoption helps in accomplishing sustainable infrastructural projects with more convenience.
