Abstract

The Automobile Association is a private organization maintained by members' subscriptions. It exists solely to give service to its members. I am sure you all know this, but it seems right to start this paper by reminding you of it because many people regard the A.A. as a cross between a public service and a nationalized industry. This is probably because certain things which we do, and are in a unique position to do, are not attempted by anyone else. We have learnt by many years of experience the best, or what seems to us to be the best, way of dealing with various problems with due regard to economy of both labour and money.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the distribution channel interface between manufacturers of nationally branded canned food products and food brokers. In addition to the generation of descriptive information about the food broker—food manufacturer channel dyad, hypotheses were tested concerning the degree of consensus between food broker and food manufacturer perceptions of (a) the reasons food manufacturers use food brokers to distribute nationally branded canned food products and (b) their respective roles in the marketing of nationally branded canned food products.

Abstract

Less than half a century ago almost the entire population of the United States lived upon food that was home‐grown and home‐prepared. With the exception of a few articles requiring a different climate than our own for their production, such as coffee, tea, sugar, spices, and chocolate, the inhabitants of the country lived exclusively upon food of their own producing, while the dealers of the city were supplied with the products of the neighbouring farms. Provisions of all kinds were supplied in an unprepared condition, and their preservation or preparation for the table was accomplished at the home.
