Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this paper is to incorporate the theoretically and practically appropriate affecting factors of customers’ price acceptance to develop an integrated model explaining customers’ price acceptance on the mobile phone market in Vietnam.
Design/methodology/approach
This current research applied the cross-sectional design. Data was collected via questionnaires and 605 responses were left after refining. The exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling methods were applied to analyze the collected data.
Findings
Prestige sensitivity and product involvement positively affect product knowledge and price mavenism. In turn, these two latter factors together with prestige sensitivity positively affect price acceptance. Besides, product knowledge and price mavenism mediated the effects of product involvement and prestige sensitivity on price acceptance in the context of complex products, rapid product innovation, social setting of using mobile phones, highly competitive market, the low purchasing power of customers and the typical cultural values of Vietnam.
Practical implications
The high product involvement and high prestige sensitivity customers could make up attractive market segments, especially important in the case of launching new products; concentrating marketing efforts on building product knowledge and price knowledge for these market segments may enhance price acceptance, speed up market penetration as well as improve price communication.
Originality/value
This is one of the first studies explaining price acceptance on the mobile phone market in Vietnam and clarifying the mediating effects of knowledge (product knowledge and price mavenism) on the causal relationships between product involvement/prestige sensitivity and price acceptance.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the direct nexus between board characteristics, corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure and the cost of equity capital (CEQ). This is done by using agency theory, stakeholder theory and signalling theory, followed by an investigation into the indirect mediation impact of CSR disclosure in the board characteristics-CEQ nexus. It intends to present new experimental evidence from Jordan’s developing economy.
Design/methodology/approach
The study’s target population was services companies registered on the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) between 2012 and 2020. As a result, the population and sampling of this study are represented by all services companies for whom complete data are available over the period, with a total of 43 services companies yielding 387 company-year observations. Data for our study were obtained from their annual disclosures and the ASE’s database.
Findings
The main findings demonstrated that board size, board gender variety and the number of board sessions positively affect CSR disclosure significantly. In addition, three board characteristics (i.e. board size, board independence and board gender variety) significantly negatively affect CEQ. Besides, CSR disclosure significantly negatively affects CEQ and it fully mediates the relationship between two board characteristics (i.e. board size and board gender variety) and CEQ, whereas it partially mediates the nexus between board independence, CEO/Chairman duality and the number of board sessions of board characteristics and CEQ.
Originality/value
This study varies from earlier studies, in that it builds a new research model by looking at the mediating role of CSR disclosure in the nexus among board characteristics and the CEQ.

Abstract
Purpose
The growth of self-service technologies (SST) in the retail sector has led to an increased prevalence of SST failures, and spurred academic debate on customer self-recovery of the failed services. This study sets out to explore why customers prefer or decline to engage in self-recovery. A framework integrating elements from self-determination theory and theory of planned behavior is developed to explore the impact of motivational factors, attitudes and self-efficacy on self-recovery intention.
Design/methodology/approach
Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the sample consisting of 297 users of retail kiosks in convenience stores.
Findings
The results revealed that intrinsic motivation and identified regulation directly affect customers' attitude and intention to engage in self-recovery. Despite an insignificant direct relationship, external regulation impacted self-recovery intention through attitude. Further, the association between intrinsic motivation and self-recovery intention is moderated by self-efficacy.
Originality/value
Much of the extant SST recovery literature has focused on company-rendered service recovery, providing little guidance to firms on how to promote self-recovery among customers. The integrated motivational-cognitive theoretical base in this study allows for a more differentiated inquiry into the factors shaping self-recovery intention, resulting in a deeper understanding of this topic. The novel insights will help retailers develop effective strategies for promoting self-recovery among users of retail kiosks.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to examine the management status quo of archaeological heritage in Vietnam seen in the case of Vuon Chuoi, a complex of Bronze Age sites located in Central Hanoi, which has been believed to be Hanoi’s first human settlement. Like other archaeological sites located in urban areas, this site has been under threat of destruction caused by land encroachment pressure. Although researchers have long waged a campaign for preservation, the dissensus among key stakeholders and the dispute over responsibility have left this site at the heart of an interminable polemic over legislation.
Design/methodology/approach
This research utilises a qualitative approach, and the primary data were collected throughout multiple field trips in 2019 and 2020. Several open-ended interviews were conducted with various state and nonstate actors involved in the Vuon Chuoi Complex’s management process. The discussion was also supported by analysing related legal documents retrieved from national archives and official online directories.
Findings
This paper dissects the current legislative and administrative framework applied in governing heritage in general and archaeological sites in Vietnam, in particular. The results indicate that existing flaws in Vietnam’s legal system are detectable, and the unsystematic organisation has led to deferment of the decision-making processes. Also, there is an apparent difference found in the attitude of the bodies in charge toward the treatment of listed and unlisted sites.
Originality/value
This research outlines that in the wake of urbanisation and industrialisation in Vietnam, a consensus among key stakeholders and an inclusive legal system are required to help preserve archaeological sites in urgent need of attention. Although several Vietnamese laws and regulations have been put into practice, they have shown critical barriers and gaps in conserving Vietnamese cultural heritage.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the influence of big data analytics (BDA) on environmental performance (ENP) in the post-COVID-19 context in Vietnam, as a developing country. In which, this study considers environmental process integration in accounting reports as a mediator variable. Furthermore, digital learning orientation (DLO) and environmental strategy (ES) are proposed as the moderator variables for relationships in the proposed model.
Design/methodology/approach
Data was collected by survey method via email with convenient sampling method. In total, 611 emails, including the survey, were sent to executive managers of Vietnamese manufacturing companies listed on stock exchanges. The final sample of 419 responses was used for analysis.
Findings
By using the partial least squares structural equation modeling, this study’s results elucidate that BDA positively affects ENP. Moreover, DLO positively moderates the nexus between BDA and environmental process integration in accounting reports, while ES plays a positive moderating role on the nexus between environmental process integration and ENP.
Practical implications
In terms of managerial implications, this paper mentions pretty attractive features of using modern technique and ENP. This research emphasizes the key role of the BDA for both reporting and accounting performance (e.g. environmental process integration and ENP) of the company. Thus, managers should examine implementing BDA when necessary to make accounting reports more transparent and modern, thereby enhancing the organization's ENP. Particularly, managers should focus on improving the organization's ENP indicators.
Originality/value
This study complements the ENP literature by showing a positive effect of BDA and environmental process integration on ENP. Additionally, this study’s results determine the efficacy of DLO and ES as well as their regulatory roles. Finally, this study was conducted to supplement empirical evidence on ENP in the post-COVID-19 context in developing countries, specifically Vietnam.

Abstract
Purpose
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the pervasiveness of food delivery apps (FDAs) and the increased scholars’ attention for the topic of FDA continuance usage intention. However, the limited understanding about possible segments of FDA users has hindered food retailers from providing FDAs with a personalized manner, which impairs the effectiveness of marketing strategies. Thus, this study aims to first explore key antecedents of users’ continuance intention toward FDAs and then segment and profile Taiwanese users based on the identified antecedents of FDA continuance intention and demographics.
Design/methodology/approach
An online survey was implemented to collect responses from FDA users in Taiwan. With a response rate of 82.4%, the final sample of 326 respondents (average age = 28.3; female = 54.9%) was analyzed by using two techniques of structural equation modeling (SEM) and cluster analysis.
Findings
The results indicate six antecedents of users’ continuance usage intention towards FDAs, including information quality, system quality, information quality, perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment and satisfaction. Additionally, three distinct clusters of FDA users are successfully identified, labeled as “value sensitive users”, “time-sensitive users” and “security sensitive users”.
Originality/value
This study is one of the pioneers that explores the possible segments in FDA market, which helps FDA providers and food retailers develop more focused and appropriate strategies to encourage users to continue using FDAs. Our findings contribute to building an optimized version of “FDA Tech” that becomes an omni-channel solution to serve the increased home-delivery needs in the new normal era.

Purpose
This study examines the effects of employer attractiveness (EA) on employee engagement (EE) and employee performance (EP).
Design/methodology/approach
Mixed method. The analytical technique is the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling through survey questionnaires collected from 937 respondents as employees from 37 enterprises in Vietnam.
Findings
EA has a positive impact on EE and EP factors. However, EE has no statistically significant impact on EP.
Practical implications
This study helps managers build solutions toward retaining talent and improving EP through the strategy of building EA. Concurrently, this study guides the important factors to build an effective EA.
Originality/value
This study explores the relationship between three factors: EA, EE and EP. This has added a new research direction of EA to existing employees. In addition, the study results provide a new perspective on the relationship between EE and EP.

Purpose
The purpose of this study is to assess the factors that motivate young people’s intention to undergo cosmetic surgery in Vietnam.
Design/methodology/approach
This study applies Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior as a research model. The study is based on a quantitative method that applied exploratory factor analysis.
Findings
In total, 412 valid responses are used for the statistical analysis. The results confirm that subjective norm (SN), attitude toward cosmetic surgery and perceived behavioral control (PBC) are the main factors that motivate young people’s intention to undergo cosmetic surgery.
Originality/value
The results show the positive relationship between attitude toward cosmetic surgery, SN, PBC and intention to undergo cosmetic surgery in Vietnam.
