Abstract

Purpose

This study develops an empirical framework to address how large third-party sellers (TPSs) can apply customer acquisition strategies to improve their performance in consumers’ person-goods matching process and how the platform firm’s similar strategies moderate the effects of TPSs’ strategies.

Design/methodology/approach

Using data collected from the top ten TPSs from a Chinese e-commerce platform, the fixed effect model is used to validate the conceptual model and hypotheses.

Findings

The study results show that both market detection strategy and matching optimization strategy can help large TPSs improve their sales performance. Moreover, the similar market detection strategy applied by the platform firm weakens the effect of large TPSs’ customer acquisition strategies, while the similar matching optimization strategy applied by the platform firm strengthens the effect of large TPSs’ customer acquisition strategies.

Originality/value

This study provides firsthand evidence on the performance of large TPSs’ and the platform firm’s strategies. It demonstrates the effectiveness of large TPSs’ market detection strategy and matching optimization strategy, which can be adopted to meet consumers’ search and evaluation motivations in their person-goods matching process respectively. Moreover, it identifies the role of platform firms by showing the moderating effect of similar strategies adopted by the platform firm on the effect of large TPSs’ customer acquisition strategies.

Abstract

Purpose

As responsibilities of high school principals continue to expand, their workweeks become longer, and their attention is stretched in multiple directions. How principals from various school types use their time is influenced by their organizational structures and external policies. To gain deeper insights into the workload, priorities and constraints faced by high school principals, this study examines principal time use (PTU) patterns across different school types, including traditional public schools (TPSs), charter schools, Catholic schools and non-Catholic private schools.

Design/methodology/approach

Drawing on the national representative data from the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 in the USA, this study examines and compares PTU in various leadership tasks across different school types, controlling for school and principal characteristics.

Findings

Among various high school types, principals in TPS had the longest workweeks. However, the extended workweek did not necessarily result in significantly more hours or a larger proportion of their time dedicated to instructional leadership. Instead, TPS principals allocated more time to administrative tasks and student affairs than principals in other school types.

Originality/value

By examining PTU of different school types, this study adds new evidence on the influence of contextual factors on leadership behavior. It also offers policy implications to enhance principals’ capacities, alleviate their workload and to prioritize time use in different leadership domains.

Abstract

Purpose

For a thermal protection system (TPS) of long endurance hypersonic flight vehicle (HFV), its thermal insulation property not only determines by the manufactured morphology but also changes along time. A thermal conductivity prediction model for aerogel considering heat treatment effect is carried out and applied to solve the heat conduction problem of a TPS. The aim of this study is to provide theoretical and numerical references for further development of aerogels applying to TPSs.

Design/methodology/approach

A thermal conductivity prediction model for aerogel is established considering treatment effect. The heat conduction problem of a TPS is derived and solved by combining the differential quadrature method and the Runge–Kutta method. The prediction results of aerogel thermal conductivities are verified by comparing with those in literature, while the calculated temperature field of TPS is verified by comparing with that by ABAQUS.

Findings

Numerical results show that when applying the current prediction model, the calculated high temperature area in the aerogel layer is narrowed due to the decrease of the thermal conductivity during heat treatment process.

Originality/value

This study will be beneficial to carry out the precise design of TPS for long endurance HFVs.
