Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the importance-performance map analysis (IPMA) and explain how to use it in the context of partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). A case study, drawing on the IPMA module implemented in the SmartPLS 3 software, illustrates the results generation and interpretation.
Design/methodology/approach
The explications first address the principles of the IPMA and introduce a systematic procedure for its use, followed by a detailed discussion of each step. Finally, a case study on the use of technology shows how to apply the IPMA in empirical PLS-SEM studies.
Findings
The IPMA gives researchers the opportunity to enrich their PLS-SEM analysis and, thereby, gain additional results and findings. More specifically, instead of only analyzing the path coefficients (i.e. the importance dimension), the IPMA also considers the average value of the latent variables and their indicators (i.e. performance dimension).
Research limitations/implications
An IPMA is tied to certain requirements, which relate to the measurement scales, variable coding, and indicator weights estimates. Moreover, the IPMA presumes linear relationships. This research does not address the computation and interpretation of non-linear dependencies.
Practical implications
The IPMA is particularly useful for generating additional findings and conclusions by combining the analysis of the importance and performance dimensions in practical PLS-SEM applications. Thereby, the IPMA allows for prioritizing constructs to improve a certain target construct. Expanding the analysis to the indicator level facilitates identifying the most important areas of specific actions. These results are, for example, particularly important in practical studies identifying the differing impacts that certain construct dimensions have on phenomena such as technology acceptance, corporate reputation, or customer satisfaction.
Originality/value
This paper is the first to offer researchers a tutorial and annotated example of an IPMA. Based on a state-of-the-art review of the technique and a detailed explanation of the method, this paper introduces a systematic procedure for running an IPMA. A case study illustrates the analysis, using the SmartPLS 3 software.

Abstract
Purpose
The paper provides a step-by-step guide in the guise of a roadmap for service improvement initiatives using importance performance map analysis (IPMA).
Design/methodology/approach
To empirically illustrate how IPMA can be applied to any service industry, three sectors are considered; sports and fitness (study A), hospitality (study B) and higher education (study C). Following the proper selection of measuring instruments and their evaluation using structural equation modeling-partial least squares (Smart-PLS), IPMA is applied to identify those attributes having strong total effects (high importance) over the targeted construct (satisfaction) but which also have low average latent variable scores (low performance).
Findings
For sports and fitness (study A), the physical aspects and programme quality require managerial attention. For the hospitability sector (study B), it is service commitment, interaction quality and internal sense of happiness. Whereas for higher education (study C), it is administrative quality as well as the element of transformative quality, namely the university’s role in adding to its students’ emotional stability, which needs the attention of the top management.
Originality/value
This study provides researchers and practitioners with a roadmap for applying PLS-SEM and IPMA for continuous service quality improvement. The roadmap extends upon Ringle and Sarstedt’s (2016) work. It highlights critical decisions that need to be considered in the pre-analytical stages of the IPMA application, i.e. at the research design phase in selecting the most appropriate service quality measurement model specifications. It not only contributes to the existing body of knowledge by providing empirical evidence to advance theory development in the quality management field but also has implications for the practitioners in any service sector on where to focus their attention for an effective service improvement.

Abstract
Purpose
The main objectives of this study are to (1) explore underlying components and attributes of travel applications that influence traveler usage intention and (2) investigate which contents should be prioritized to increase the efficiency of travel apps.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses importance–performance map analysis (IPMA) with an innovative approach (i.e. generalized structured component analysis [GSCA]) to identify components and attributes that have relatively high and low significance for the target construct (i.e. travel app's usage intention).
Findings
An integrated model influenced by three components (i.e. entertainment, travel review and medical and emergency information is proposed to have an impact on travelers' intention to use travel apps). The IPMA results indicate that restaurant and shopping receive the utmost emphasis from Thai domestic tourists who use travel apps, and sports and attraction are regarded as less critical attributes.
Practical implications
The app content scales identified in this study can be used as a basic framework for app developers, service providers and tourism authorities to design a travel app. The IPMA results also help concerned practitioners to make decisions on which contents/attributes should be incorporated and improved.
Originality/value
This study implements IPMA using a GSCA estimator to present the standard results reporting on the path coefficients of each of the attributes of travel app services. The results not only contribute to the improvement of app features and services, but also suggest an innovative approach for generating pertinent IPMA results with GSCA, thus contributing to the theoretical and methodological advancement in hospitality and tourism areas.

Abstract
Purpose
In the era of Industrial Revolution (IR) 4.0, the integration of digital technologies, automation and data-driven insights has generated a broad wave of transformation across all industries, including the insurance sector. The study focuses on determining how the adoption of these technologies (InsurTech) is changing the life insurance industry, ultimately enhancing the level of customer satisfaction.
Design/methodology/approach
The data analysis has been performed with 304 useable responses from the policyholders of life insurance in the north-west region of India. The methodology adopted for this study is partial least squares (PLS) structural equation modeling (SEM). To investigate the predictive relevance of customer satisfaction, the PLS predict technique has been used. Also, importance performance map analysis (IPMA) has been applied to assess the important and performing dimensions of customer satisfaction.
Findings
The outcomes show that the adoption of InsurTech has a positive impact on customer satisfaction. Customer service management and policy management are among the strongest predictors of customer satisfaction, and the predictive relevance is reported to be moderate. IPMA results have suggested that improvements in online distribution of insurance services and customer service management lead to higher customer satisfaction.
Research limitations/implications
The conceptual model can be tested with the moderating effect of different demographic factors (age, gender etc.), and future research can be done to analyze the mediating role of customer satisfaction between InsurTech adoption and customer loyalty.
Practical implications
The study offers valuable contributions to the marketing literature, shedding light on the influence of InsurTech adoption on customer satisfaction within the Indian life insurance sector. The research offers a practical approach that could help marketing professionals and policymakers comprehend the utilization of online insurance services, and this understanding can help industry experts to develop customer-oriented products and services.
Originality/value
This research is the first of its kind to test the association between InsurTech adoption and customer satisfaction in the life insurance sector in the Indian context. Research also provides novel insights for policymakers to enhance the satisfaction of customers towards using online insurance services in the near future in developing countries like India.

Abstract
Purpose
Understanding the main determinants of internet banking is important for banks and users. Although several prior research projects have focused on the factors that impact on adoption of technology, there is a limited empirical work which simultaneously captures technology-specific factors (PE, EE, WD, GAM) and customer-specific factors (GSC, INTRC) that help customers to adopt internet banking. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to verify how these factors influence individual behavior and motivate them to adopt new technology. The authors advance the body of knowledge on this subject by proposing moderating relationship of gamification between user’s intention to adopt and intention to recommend internet banking in social network.
Design/methodology/approach
To test the model the authors developed a quantitative study involving 398 internet users from five commercial banks. Data were collected in four weeks beginning of September 2017 from three large cities of Pakistan using convenience sampling approach. The theoretical model was tested using structural equation modeling (SEM).
Findings
The results indicate that intention to adopt internet banking is positively affected by performance expectancy, effort expectancy, website design, website characteristics and general self-confidence. Findings of SEM showed that approximately 72 percent of the variance in customer’s intention to adopt internet banking was accounted by predictors. Moderating effect of gamification suggested that the positive relationship between customer’s intention to adopt and customer’s intention to recommend internet banking will be stronger when gamification is higher. Importance performance matrix analysis (IPMA) suggested that among all other variables general self-confidence is the most important construct as it has the highest importance value in IPMA.
Practical implications
This study provides insightful guideline to practitioners, web designers and marketing professional that they should focus on both technology perspective and customer-specific factors to boost the confidence of internet banking users, while for researchers this study provides a basis for further development of technology adoption models in e-commerce domain.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the body of knowledge by adding game elements in technology perspective model and augments the e-commerce literature in the internet banking adoption context. To the date, this study is the first in its nature that investigates both technology-specific factors and customer-specific factors altogether to see the users influence toward technology adoption.

Purpose
The increasing innovation and urgent need of up-to-date and convenient information systems have gained high importance in financial sector. Several banks have deployed internet banking in order to reduce cost while improving customer services. Therefore, the growth of internet banking is limited and in many cases fallen short of expectations. The purpose of this paper is to develop an integrated model that combines technology, innovative and environmental factors altogether in order to understand customer’s intention to adopt, and intention to recommend internet banking in social networks.
Design/methodology/approach
In all, 398 valid responses were collected from customers of commercial banks, using convenience sampling approach. Data were analyzed using the structural equation modeling.
Findings
The findings show that integrated model has good explanatory power (78.3 percent) to predict customer’s intention to adopt internet banking. Findings also revealed that the interaction effect of gamification between user’s intention to adopt and user’s intention to recommend internet banking will be stronger when gamification effect is higher. Importance performance matrix analysis (IPMA) revealed that innovativeness and perceived technology security were the most important factors in order to determine user’s intention with regard to adoption of internet banking.
Practical implications
For policy-makers, it is suggested that they should focus on innovative characteristics and must ensure the possible environment for carrying out internet banking transaction. Advertising about new technology with adequate information may produce positive influence on user’s intention. Enjoyable internet banking website with reward system will help to improve user’s intention to adopt and intention to recommend internet banking with others, thus developers should introduce game features on internet banking website.
Originality/value
This study provides basis for further refinement of individual technology acceptance models and enrich the e-commerce literature adding innovative and game elements in interne banking adoption context. Additionally, the proposed model makes an important contribution in emerging e-commerce literature especially in the context of innovative and gamified internet banking.

Abstract
Purpose
The advancement in Internet technology has played a significant role in revolutionizing the Internet banking services. Therefore, little is discussed about factors that motivate technology user to continue the use of Internet banking services. The current study investigates Internet banking user continuance behavior toward the use of Internet banking services with the integration of two-well known information system (IS) theories namely task technology fit (TTF) and technology continuance theory (TCT).
Design/methodology/approach
The research design of this study is based on positivist paradigm and followed quantitative research approach. Data were collected from 360 Internet banking users of commercial banks across Pakistan. The research model was tested with structural equation modeling (SEM).
Findings
The research model had explained 53.9% variance in Internet banking user continuance intention. Next to this, the predictive relevance of the research model was tested with Stone-Geisser's Q² values using blindfolding procedure. Results revealed that the newly developed integrated technology continuance research model has substantial power to predict Internet banking user continuance intention. Moreover, the effect size analysis revealed that factors like satisfaction and user expectation were the most important factors in determining Internet banking user continuance intention.
Practical implications
For practical implications importance performance matrix analysis (IPMA) has used to see the importance and performance of the underpinned factors. Findings indicate that managers and policy makers should focus on user satisfaction, perceived usefulness and expectation confirmation in order to enhance the Internet banking user continuance intention toward the use of Internet banking services. Some of the ways banks can do this is to develop esthetic Internet banking website with charm of novelty, relevant information and smooth flows with less complex redirects.
Originality/value
Unlike prior studies that focus on Internet banking user pre-adoption issues, the current study examines post-adoption issue of Internet banking users and investigates Internet banking user continuance intention. This study is significant as it integrates two-well known theories namely TCT and TTF in Internet banking user continuance intention and augments the IS literature by developing an integrated technology continuance model (TCM).

Purpose
Digital transformation (DT) in the semiconductor industry goes beyond traditional business operations and supply chain management (OSCM) to the digital world. Despite significant developments in recent years, blockchain implementations for OSCM remain relatively underdeveloped in the semiconductor industry. Therefore, this research aims to examine the relationships between blockchain visibility, supply chain integration (SCI) and supply chain performance (SCP) in the era of DT in Malaysia's semiconductor industry to shed light on this emerging area.
Design/methodology/approach
A convenience sampling of 71 operations and supply chain managers attached to semiconductor manufacturing firms in Malaysia were invited to participate in a survey. In assessing blockchain visibility within the industry, key terms namely business intelligence gathering, information exchange, information technology (IT) and knowledge of asset status, were conceptualised from the literature review. The questionnaires developed to collect data were validated by industry and academic experts.
Findings
The results from the analysis confirmed that SCI mediates the link between blockchain visibility (information exchange, business intelligence gathering and knowledge asset status) and SCP. Likewise, the importance-performance matrix analysis (IPMA) outcomes revealed that IT played a minor role. The results suggested that semiconductor manufacturers should pay less attention to IT since this was identified as having the least priority towards improvement.
Practical implications
The outcomes from this research enable policymakers to strategise and integrate blockchain technology in the era of DT to ensure sustainable SCM in the semiconductor industry in Malaysia.
Originality/value
The research bridge the knowledge gap by revealing the value that blockchain visibility can facilitate SCP and explore SCI as the prevailing factor and demonstrates how Resource-Based Theory and Network Theory can be applied in this study.

Purpose
The authors investigate household acceptance of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) by drawing on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology and institutional trust theory.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors build a research model including six hypotheses and quantitatively analyze it using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and importance–performance map analysis (IPMA) based on 282 answers to a survey questionnaire.
Findings
The continuous adoption of CBDCs by households is highly probable and is fostered by its expected high performance, the social recommendations and the existence of facilitating conditions. Nevertheless, institutions' efforts to propose a flexible and understandable currency can benefit its adoption only if these institutions also strive to build households' trust in the currency's system.
Originality/value
The authors provide a full review of the emerging literature on CBDCs and suggest that digital currency offerings can be divided into centralized, semi-centralized and de-centralized control in a meaningful taxonomy. The authors also complement extant studies on CBDCs that mostly apprehend its operational challenges by focusing on the customer side and provide implications to the launching of CBDCs by uncovering the customer-specific determinants of their adoption.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between top management support, project mission (PM), synergy and project management effectiveness (PME) in the Malaysian local councils. It also attempts to analyze the relative importance and performance of the predictor constructs on the target construct for managerial actions.
Design/methodology/approach
Primary data based on 169 respondents were collected and analyzed using PLS-SEM to assess validity, reliability, hypothesis testing and importance-performance matrix analysis (IPMA) of the study constructs.
Findings
PM and synergy were found to be significantly and positively associated with PME. However, top management support was not related to PME. Synergy has the highest relative importance level in influencing PME and it is regarded as the most relevant construct for managerial actions.
Research limitations/implications
This study examines the significant factors that contribute to the effectiveness of project management in the local councils. It forms a basis for other state local councils to emulate the research model and compare the findings among different project teams in different locations.
Practical implications
The IPMA identifies synergy as a primary important construct for project management activities. It explains PME is linked with extensive collaboration, inter-departmental relations, interpersonal coordination and close liaisons.
Originality/value
This study is among the few that examines factors influencing PME in the Malaysian local councils. Inclusion of synergy as one of the predictor constructs will definitely help to improve the well-functioning and coordination of the project.
