Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the nexus between information technology (IT) competency, supply chain agility and supply chain performance in the hospitality industry. The authors examine the association of IT competency and supply chain performance through supply chain agility while considering the boundary condition role of risk management.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors collected data via a questionnaire from 302 full-time hotel and restaurant managers in Pakistan.

Findings

Study results reveal a positive association between IT competency and supply chain performance while supply chain agility mediates this relationship. In addition, risk management is identified as an important boundary condition that moderates the direct and indirect relationships between IT competency and supply chain performance.

Originality/value

Study results reveal an important association between IT competency and supply chain agility contributing to the scholarly discussion on supply chain issues in the hospitality sector.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the emerging and attractive phenomenon of sustainable performance influenced by the role of effective knowledge management with the mediation effect of green innovation. This study incorporated the formative construct of knowledge management, which consists of knowledge creation, acquisition, knowledge sharing and knowledge application that collectively predict sustainable performance and enable the firms to become innovative under a greening perspective. This study contributed to the body of knowledge by explaining the effect and influence of knowledge management practices and greening perspective on sustaining performance.

Design/methodology/approach

The empirical evidence of this relationship is examined in the current research to establish effective knowledge management practices for ensuring sustainability in Malaysia’s production and service industry. The data was collected from individuals from Malaysia’s small and medium enterprise (SME) sector by using a convenience sampling technique, and analysis was performed by using the SmartPLS4.

Findings

This study’s results revealed that knowledge management influences performance by inclusion of green practices. Similarly, green innovation predicts sustainable performance; finally, green innovation mediates the relationship between knowledge management and sustainable performance. Organizations are required to ensure knowledge management practices, including the creation of knowledge, acquisition, sharing and application of knowledge to sustain performance, with a mediation effect and an essential element of green innovation that empirically explains the association between knowledge management practices and performance.

Research limitations/implications

The scope of research is limited and restricts the capacity of findings for a broader context inside Malaysia. There is a need to consider the organizational culture, contextual elements and leadership styles in investigating and explaining the critical phenomenon of sustainable performance.

Practical implications

Organizations are required to ensure knowledge management practices, including the creation of knowledge, acquisition, sharing and application of knowledge to sustain performance, with a mediation effect and an essential element of green innovation that empirically explains the association between knowledge management practices and performance.

Social implications

Sustainable performance has the potential to increase the economic, social and environmental concerns of the firm, as strategies must be performance-centric to achieve the objectives. This research effort can assist Malaysia’s SME sector from various perspectives. This study provides the basis for taking the initiatives for knowledge management by focusing on creation, acquisition, sharing and application practices for achieving sustainable performance. This study incorporated the emerging concept of green innovation for its actions and strategies to achieve sustainable performance, and the actions of firms to adopt and implement the green practices that influence sustainable performance.

Originality/value

The framework for this study is novel. This study has been conducted to determine the sustainable business performance influenced by knowledge management, technological advancements and green supply chain management, moderated by leadership support. This study incorporated the formative construct of knowledge management, which consists of knowledge creation, acquisition, knowledge sharing and knowledge application that collectively predict sustainable performance and enable the firms to become innovative under a greening perspective. This study contributed to the body of knowledge by explaining the effect and influence of knowledge management practices and greening perspective on sustaining performance.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the impact of service quality (SQ), perceived value (PV) and consumer satisfaction on Thai street food, with customer satisfaction (CS) as a mediator for customer loyalty and repurchase intention (RI). It also explores how consumer trust (CT) in Thai street food safety moderates these relationships.

Design/methodology/approach

Structural equation modelling (SEM) was utilised to analyse the complex interrelationships between various constructs. Multi-group analyses were conducted to investigate the moderating effects of CT on the structural model, considering two distinct groups based on trust levels: low and high.

Findings

The findings revealed that SQ and PV significantly influenced CS and behavioural intention, while the perceived quality of Thai street food had no significant impact on post-COVID-19 consumer satisfaction. The study highlighted the critical role of CT in moderating the relationships between SQ, PV and CS, with distinct effects observed in groups with varying trust levels.

Social implications

The research emphasises the importance of enhancing SQ and delivering value to customers in the context of Thai street food, which can contribute to increased CS, RI and positive word-of-mouth. Furthermore, the study underscores the critical role of building CT in fostering enduring customer relationships and promoting consumer satisfaction and loyalty.

Originality/value

This research offers valuable insights into consumer behaviour and decision-making processes, particularly within the realm of Thai street food. It underscores the significance of understanding and nurturing CT, especially in the post-COVID-19 landscape, emphasising the need for effective business strategies and consumer engagement.

Abstract

Purpose

The present research conducts a thorough review of published literature relevant to earnings management (EM) practices in family firms (FFs), utilizing the Scopus database, intending to identify potential directions for future research.

Design/methodology/approach

Through a systematic review, this study focuses on identifying and summarizing trends in publications over the years, the journal outlets, geographical contexts, research methodologies, the temporal evolution of theories and the specific constructs under investigation.

Findings

Earlier empirical studies suggest that corporate governance enhances integrity and transparency in FFs, thereby reducing EM practices. Contrarily, compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) seems to offer managers more opportunities for convenient EM rather than restricting such practices. Notably, corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices do not appear to mitigate EM practices consistently. The literature, however, reveals inclusive results and areas requiring deeper exploration for more definitive results. For instance, certain corporate governance mechanisms, such as family-specific social and cultural business characteristics, subjective measures of family businesses, behavioral approaches to family owners' decision-making and directors' personal, psychological and social factors, remain largely untested. Additionally, there is a notable research gap concerning the relationship between IFRS, capital structure and EM.

Originality/value

This study’s contributions lie in its comprehensive literature review, identification of research trends and gaps, and its potential to guide future research endeavors in the domain of EM practices in FFs.
