Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to develop a decision making model and approach for logistics planning problem which naturally involves two or more decision units at a hierarchical structure. Such a decision problem in practice often involves uncertain and imprecise factors with the parameters of a bilevel decision model, either in the objective functions or constraints.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper proposes a fuzzy bilevel decision making model for a general logistics planning problem and develops a fuzzy number based Kth‐best approach to find an optimal solution for the proposed fuzzy bilevel decision problem.

Findings

The proposed approach illustrates an optimal solution in logistics management, which meets maximally/minimally the objectives of both supplier and distributor (or other parts of the logistics chain). The proposed fuzzy bilevel decision approach can have a wide range of logistics management applications.

Research limitations/implications

The decision model, approach and system will be further tested for some more complicated real cases in the future.

Originality/value

The proposed fuzzy bilevel decision model and approach are new, which offer theoretical and practice help to logistics management.

Abstract

This paper first presents a research framework for e‐service evaluation within four categories: cost, benefit, functions and development, each incorporating a number of factors. Through data analysis and hypotheses testing, inter‐relationships among the factors of the four categories are examined. The results show that the development type of an e‐service has a significant effect on the degree of user satisfaction. Expertise, technique and expense are the principle factors limiting current e‐service adoption. The most significant finding is that, in the development of e‐services, certain cost factors are significantly more important than others in relation to certain benefit factors. The finding is presented as a cost‐benefit factor‐relation model. This provides an insight into whether investment in certain areas of e‐service applications is more important than in others for particular business objectives. These results have the potential to improve the strategic planning of companies by determining more effective investment areas and adopting more suitable development activities where e‐services are concerned.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to develop a hybrid semantic recommendation system to provide personalized government to business (G2B) e‐services, in particular, business partner recommendation e‐services for Australian small to medium enterprises (SMEs).

Design/methodology/approach

The study first proposes a product semantic relevance model. It then develops a hybrid semantic recommendation approach which combines item‐based collaborative filtering (CF) similarity and item‐based semantic similarity techniques. This hybrid approach is implemented into an intelligent business‐partner‐locator recommendation‐system prototype called BizSeeker.

Findings

The hybrid semantic recommendation approach can help overcome the limitations of existing recommendation techniques. The recommendation system prototype, BizSeeker, can recommend relevant business partners to individual business users (e.g. exporters), which therefore will reduce the time, cost and risk of businesses involved in entering local and international markets.

Practical implications

The study would be of great value in e‐government personalization research. It would facilitate the transformation of the current G2B e‐services into a new stage wherein the e‐government agencies offer personalized e‐services to business users. The study would help government policy decision‐makers to increase the adoption of e‐government services.

Originality/value

Providing personalized e‐services by e‐government can be seen as an evolution of the intentions‐based approach and will be one of the next directions of government e‐services. This paper develops a new recommender approach and systems to improve personalization of government e‐services.

Abstract

Purpose

Matching relevant ontology data for integration is vitally important as the amount of ontology data increases along with the evolving Semantic web, in which data are published from different individuals or organizations in a decentralized environment. For any domain that has developed a suitable ontology, its ontology annotated data (or simply ontology data) from different sources often overlaps and needs to be integrated. The purpose of this paper is to develop intelligent web ontology data matching method and framework for data integration.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper develops an intelligent matching method to solve the issue of ontology data matching. Based on the matching method, it also proposes a flexible peer‐to‐peer framework to address the issue of ontology data integration in a distributed Semantic web environment.

Findings

The proposed matching method is different from existing data matching or merging methods applied to data warehouse in that it employs a machine learning approach and more similarity measurements by exploring ontology features.

Research limitations/implications

The proposed method and framework will be further tested for some more complicated real cases in the future.

Originality/value

The experiments show that this proposed intelligent matching method increases ontology data matching accuracy.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to investigate the understanding and application of crime of sabotaging production and operation in internet era, and, at the same time, discuss the basic position for criminal law interpretation in cyberspace.

Design/methodology/approach

Doctrinal analysis and case study.

Findings

Along with the advent of the internet era, how to apply the traditional crime of sabotaging production and operation in virtual space has attracted people’s attention. The controversy caused by the conviction of malicious application of fake transactions is a typical example. The legal interest protected here includes not only the property value of the means of production itself, but also the expectation interest that can be obtained by normal production and operation activities. There is no reliable basis to believe that overlap of articles between special provision and general laws occurs in crime of sabotaging production and operation and crime of intentional damage of property. The production and operation activities carried out online can also be covered by crime of sabotaging production and operation, without doubt. Ejusdem Generis Rule should be fully respected, but crime of sabotaging production and operation has a dual structure of means behavior and purpose behavior, where the purpose behavior, sabotaging production and operation, is the key to the conviction. However, it is not necessarily premised on physical damage and violent characteristics. The understanding and application of traditional crimes should keep pace with the times in the internet era, and we should not stick to a completely rigid subjective interpretation.

Originality/value

This study demonstrates the possible application of crime of sabotaging production and operation in cyberspace, and clarifies many misunderstandings about this crime.

Abstract

Purpose

Testing business processes is crucial to assess the compliance of business process models with requirements. Automating this task optimizes testing efforts and reduces human error while also providing improvement insights for the business process modeling activity. The primary purposes of this paper are to conduct a literature review of Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) testing and formal verification and to propose the Business Process Evaluation and Research Framework for Enhancement and Continuous Testing (bPERFECT) framework, which aims to guide business process testing (BPT) research and implementation. Secondary objectives include (1) eliciting the existing types of testing, (2) evaluating their impact on efficiency and (3) assessing the formal verification techniques that complement testing.

Design/methodology/approach

The methodology used is based on Kitchenham's (2004) original procedures for conducting systematic literature reviews.

Findings

Results of this study indicate that three distinct business process model testing types can be found in the literature: black/gray-box, regression and integration. Testing and verification approaches differ in aspects such as awareness of test data, coverage criteria and auxiliary representations used. However, most solutions pose notable hindrances, such as BPMN element limitations, that lead to limited practicality.

Research limitations/implications

The databases selected in the review protocol may have excluded relevant studies on this topic. More databases and gray literature could also be considered for inclusion in this review.

Originality/value

Three main originality aspects are identified in this study as follows: (1) the classification of process model testing types, (2) the future trends foreseen for BPMN model testing and verification and (3) the bPERFECT framework for testing business processes.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate what factors can affect people’s continuous watching and consumption intentions in live streaming.

Design/methodology/approach

This research conducted a mixed-methods study. The semi-structured interview was deployed to develop a research model and a live streaming typology. A survey was then used for quantitative assessment of the research model. Survey data were analyzed using partial least squares-structural equation modeling.

Findings

The results suggest that sex and humor appeals, social status display and interactivity play considerable roles in the viewer’s behavioral intentions in live streaming and their effects vary across different live streaming types.

Research limitations/implications

This research is conducted in the Chinese context. Future research can test the research model in other cultural contexts. This study can also be extended by incorporating the roles of viewer gender and price sensitivity in the future.

Practical implications

This study provides managerial insights into how live streaming platforms and streamers can improve their popularity and profitability.

Originality/value

The paper introduces a novel form of social media and a new business model. It illustrates what will affect people’s behavioral intentions in such a new context.
