Abstract

Purpose

Drawing on dual process theory as the overarching framework, this study investigates how different types of incidental vocabulary learning yield different performance, repetition, and continuance intention outcomes and uncovers the underlying mechanism.

Design/methodology/approach

We identify four popular types of incidental learning: traditional, a murder mystery game, noneducational live streaming, and VTuber. We propose that the underlying mechanism is the mediating role of perceived novelty as heuristic processing, and effort and performance expectancy as systematic processing. We conduct a between-subject experiment with four groups for the four types of incidental learning. From a total of 220 subjects, 55 valid responses were collected from each group. Analysis of variance and a partial least squares structural equation model are employed to examine the differences and mechanism.

Findings

The results show that noneducational live streaming performs significantly best for all three outcomes. The mechanism test demonstrates that perceived novelty and performance expectancy play significantly positive mediating roles, whereas effort expectancy has a null mediating effect.

Originality/value

The research provides both theoretical and practical implications.

Abstract

Purpose

Leadership is key to building a culture of continuous learning within organizations. This study aims to explore the pivotal role of leadership in creating a culture of constant learning within organizations by bibliometric and content analysis. It also introduces propositions and frameworks that emphasize the importance of fostering a growth mindset, encouraging knowledge sharing, promoting learning agility and leveraging technology to support lifelong development.

Design/methodology/approach

Using data from the Web of Science Core Collection, the author performed a complete analysis of publication features, collaboration networks and keywords in the field using VOSviewer software. Furthermore, drawing on social cognitive theory, this paper also presents propositions that integrate key concepts and strategies for fostering a culture of learning.

Findings

The data shows a large increase in publications on leadership and organizational learning, particularly since 2000, indicating an increasing interest and importance in this field. The author proposes leaders who demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and invest in learning resources empower their teams to embrace new challenges and explore innovative solutions. By fostering a culture of learning, organizations can enhance employee engagement, foster creativity and innovation and adapt more effectively to changing market dynamics.

Originality/value

This study offers a unique perspective on the role of leadership in driving learning and development initiatives. By implementing the principles, organizations can create a competitive advantage by cultivating a workforce that is agile, resilient and equipped to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Abstract

Purpose

Investigating antecedents that may affect the usage of electronic tax declaration platforms is not a new research topic. Nevertheless, investigating the antecedents that affect the continuance usage of these platforms beyond the COVID-19 pandemic is a relatively new research trend. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to investigate the antecedent factors that directly influence electronic tax declaration platforms’ continuance usage in the post-pandemic era by integrating the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use Technology Model with other related factors.

Design/methodology/approach

To achieve the main purpose of the study, an online questionnaire was used to gather data from 231 Jordanian taxpayers.

Findings

The findings revealed the positive and significant effects of performance expectancy, social influence, knowledge and trust in e-government services on continuance usage of electronic tax declaration platforms. Contrary to what is expected, effort expectancy is insignificant, and hence the related hypothesis (H2) was rejected.

Originality/value

The findings of current research provided theoretical and practical implications by using a well-established theoretical lens to investigate what factors affect the continuance usage of electronic tax declaration platforms within the context of a developing country, namely, Jordan.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper examines the factors influencing the adoption of Quality 4.0 technologies by quality professionals. The study evaluates perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude towards use, and intention to use new technologies.

Design/methodology/approach

The research involves a literature review, identification of latent variables derived from the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), and a survey conducted among 200 quality professionals in the high-tech sector using computer-assisted web interviews.

Findings

The study elucidates the attitudes and intentions of high-tech industry employees towards adopting Quality 4.0 technologies. The primary conclusion drawn is that the predominant factor shaping the attitude of quality professionals towards new technologies is their confidence in their ability to effectively engage with these technologies rather than solely the perceived usefulness of such technologies to themselves or their organization.

Research limitations/implications

This study is subject to certain limitations. Firstly, it focuses on five variables identified in the TAM model, potentially overlooking other pertinent factors that could provide a more comprehensive understanding. Secondly, the analysis of Quality 4.0 technologies is presented in a generalized manner, possibly resulting in nuanced differences if each specific technology were examined individually.

Originality/value

This article fills a gap in the literature by identifying the factors influencing quality professionals' adoption of Quality 4.0 technologies and delineating the relationships between these factors.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to investigate the continuous intention to use blockchain and FinTech innovations, focusing on the direct impact of user trust and perceived risks. It seeks to test how information technology (IT) quality directly affects user-perceived risk and trust and to identify how IT quality can influence FinTech continuance intentions. By examining these relationships, the study provides insights into how improvements in IT quality can mitigate perceived risks and enhance user trust, ultimately fostering sustained use of FinTech and blockchain technologies.

Design/methodology/approach

To achieve the purpose of this study, the model and hypotheses were examined based on the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).

Findings

Results revealed that perceived risk is negatively impacted by system quality, while trust is positively impacted by information quality, and the most significant result in the study is continuous-use intention and uncertainty both are impacted by service quality. Also, the study used some control variables, and two of them (i.e. FinTech type and education) showed a positive significant relationship with continuance-use intention.

Practical implications

This study identifies several causal relationships between the continuance-use intention of blockchain and FinTech innovations and various factors, which can provide valuable insights for managers, enabling them to formulate appropriate strategies to foster sustainable growth in FinTech and blockchain. By leveraging these findings, managers can enhance IT quality, reduce perceived risks and build user trust, thereby promoting the ongoing adoption and success of blockchain and FinTech innovations.

Originality/value

The outcomes obtained will help both FinTech providers and researchers elucidate and understand the situation of users’ concerns about the unexpected risks/uncertainty in FinTech transactions can be mitigated through providing a high level of quality IT service and systems. Two main strategies can be merged to be used by FinTech providers/managers, first: trust building, second: risk-mitigating, both strategies can be used in the light of IT innovation and its aspects to meet the sustainable growth of FinTech.

Abstract

Purpose

This study examines the key determinants of subscription intentions for ChatGPT Plus (paid version) in business settings, focusing on tasks such as system quality, information support, service quality, perceived intelligence, goal-congruent outcome and self-efficacy.

Design/methodology/approach

The study utilized a survey of office workers, analyzed through structural equation modeling, to explore these determinants.

Findings

The results demonstrate that system quality, service quality and perceived intelligence significantly influence satisfaction, while service quality and perceived intelligence also impact goal-congruent outcomes. Contrary to traditional models, satisfaction does not significantly correlate with usage. Instead, a significant relationship is observed between goal-congruent outcomes and usage. Self-efficacy emerges as a crucial predictor of subscription intentions, further underlined by the significant impact of usage on subscription intention.

Research limitations/implications

The study’s focus on office workers and a single artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot type may limit generalizability. Its findings illuminate several avenues for future research, particularly in diversifying the context and demographics studied.

Practical implications

This research offers actionable insights for businesses and practitioners in the implementation of AI chatbots. It highlights the importance of enhancing system quality, personalization and user confidence to boost subscription intentions, thereby guiding strategies for user engagement and technology adoption.

Originality/value

This study pioneers in investigating subscription intentions towards AI chatbots, particularly ChatGPT, providing a novel framework that expands upon traditional user behavior theories.

Abstract

Purpose

The main purpose of this study is to determine the accounting analytics technology (AAT) adoption among manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) based on the extended technology acceptance model (TAM).

Design/methodology/approach

The quantitative research approach with online surveys was used to collect data from 219 accounting managers among manufacturing SMEs in Jordan. To test the suggested research model, partial least squares structural equation modeling was used.

Findings

The findings indicated that all direct paths were found to be significant in the hypothesized directions. Ultimately, the results also revealed that perceived usefulness has mediated the relationship between perceived ease of use and intention to use AAT, and hence all direct and indirect hypotheses were accepted.

Originality/value

This research has successfully extended the TAM model in the context of AAT adoption among Jordanian manufacturing SMEs by including new factors along with the original factors of the TAM model, particularly in the postpandemic era.

Abstract

Purpose

Sustainability and accessibility of education are the main purposes of educational institutions. Higher education institutions (HEIs) have been addressing these concerns through their distance education departments for years. Especially during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, HEIs encountered challenges related to productivity, escalating costs and decreasing user satisfaction with distance education. This study proposes the integration of new and suitable information technologies (ITs) into the steps of lean management (LM) implementation. It suggests that this approach will be highly effective and beneficial, providing solutions to the problems above in higher education (HE) field. The study aims to highlight the effectiveness and benefits of incorporating new and suitable ITs into the application stages of LM principles. Sample applications in HE will be provided to enhance understanding.

Design/methodology/approach

A model is introduced for researching new ITs and incorporating appropriate ones in the application steps of LM. This model has been applied and analyzed in two case studies at Gazi University for a more comprehensive understanding.

Findings

When examining periodic surveys and usage statistics from case studies, it becomes evident that implementing LM with the support of ITs reduces waste and enhances the quality of existing work. The success observed in the case studies was notably influenced by managers’ proficiency in business processes, experience in ITs, managerial skills and support from senior management.

Practical implications

This case study provides a roadmap and step-by-step implementation of LM with IT support for HEIs. The implementation process and results will also be guiding for other sectors.

Originality/value

There is a notable absence of significant studies on integrating ITs, which have become crucial in today’s context in the stages of LM implementation. This study is envisioned as a pioneering endeavor to address this gap in the literature. Notably, challenges exist in applying LM principles outside production sectors, and limited research has been conducted. This study aims to pave the way for further research in diverse fields by conducting a comprehensive case study in the realm of HE.

Abstract

Purpose

This study examines how users' multidimensional representational fidelity factors affect sociability and cyberself engagement in the Metaverse platform; that is, how they interact with newly defined self-images as their personas in the environments. It investigates how representational fidelity serves platform users to perform social roles and increase their sociability by establishing a new cyberself, thus influencing continuous platform use.

Design/methodology/approach

This study surveyed 314 users of the Metaverse platform Horizon, where users can create a virtual agent avatar, meet people in the same online environment in real time, and interact with a sense of three-dimensional immersion. Data were analyzed using partial least squares regression models.

Findings

User socialization significantly influenced the intention to use the Metaverse platform. Representational fidelity was a crucial variable for sociability, and activity representational fidelity was the most influential aspect among the four other elements. Platforms should consider how to enable users to create and use activities that faithfully represent their personas.

Originality/value

The novelty of this study is that it introduces representational fidelity based on representation theory into the context of virtual persona in the Metaverse platform. This study extended representational fidelity to the socialization perspective by utilizing the integrated model of user satisfaction and the technology acceptance model. Through the results, this study emphasized that users' sociability significantly influences their intention to use the Metaverse platform. Finally, this study provides a feasible guideline on how practitioners could design and strengthen their platforms so that users can represent their cyberselves faithfully.
